October 17, 2016 Dear Sponsor, On April 30th, 2017, the 7th and 8th graders from St. Stephen School will travel to Washington, D.C. to take part in the Close Up Foundation’s Washington D.C. civic education program. This program gives students the opportunity to experience their government in action and gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to be engaged citizens. This innovative educational program is run by the Close Up Foundation, the nation’s leading nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education organization. Since 1971, Close Up has brought over 800,000 students and teachers from across the country to Washington, D.C. to experience firsthand the history, politics, and culture of the nation’s capital. While on the program, we will participate in a variety of hands‐on activities such as small group workshops and debate with my peers from across the country. Not only will we learn from them, but we will be exposed to differing attitudes and perspectives. The program cost per student is $1,951, and is all‐inclusive; travel expenses, academic workshops, meals, lodging, and truly, the experience of a lifetime! Because civic education is for everyone, and not just the most privileged, we hope you are able to lend a hand in making this valuable educational program available to all students, regardless of financial background. Help us in this effort by pledging the suggested amounts on the back side of this sheet. Close Up is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Their tax ID # is 23‐7122882. Please consult your tax advisor to see if your contribution may be tax‐ deductible. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Close Up’s Donation Coordinator at
[email protected]. Your contribution would be an investment in our community’s future by helping students become active and informed citizens. Please feel free to call our sponsor teacher, Guy Brickell, for more information concerning the Close Up program. He can be reached at St. Stephen School at (970) 945‐7746 during school hours or via email at
