Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter. The Lenten season is a time when many Christians observe a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ—his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial, and resurrection. Lent is a season of prayer and fasting before Easter. The season lasts 46 days and during this time, Catholics attend Mass and Reconciliation, make personal sacrifices, and perform additional acts of charity. Lent is a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, doing penance, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, almsgiving, and self-denial. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the tradition and events of the New Testament beginning on Palm Sunday, further climaxing on Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday, which ultimately culminates in the joyful celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Maybe we can pass on our daily trip to Starbucks and instead donate that money to the Food Closet in the vestibule of the church. Simple acts of kindness like this please our loving God. BAPTISM/BAUTIZOS Please register at the Parish Office . Parents and Sponsor will be required to take the Pre-Baustimal Class at least one month in advance.
