PASTOR’S Reflection
B
raking Open the Word of God:
Dear brothers and sisters, today is the feast of the Ascension of the Lord and the word of God tells us today that Jesus, while blessing the apostles, was taken to heaven. But what does the Ascension of Jesus mean to us? In the first place, the visible departure of the Lord concluded the stay of the risen Jesus on earth. For forty days after his resurrection, Jesus had been appearing to many of his disciples and speaking to them about the Kingdom of God. And the days of his appearances had come to an end. Secondly, the Ascension of Jesus completes our understanding of the Glorious Resurrection. Because the Lord Jesus was raised to Heaven after His glorious Resurrection, it is made known to us that our hope for eternal life does not consist in dwelling in this world, but in Heaven. In the third place, the Ascension of the Lord confirms that Jesus was the Messiah. As St. Luke tells us in the Gospel: "He was taken to heaven." Perhaps we can ask ourselves, "Who took him?" And "Why did they take Him?" It was the angels who took Jesus to heaven because they were created to worship him and serve him. The Ascension of the Lord Jesus opened the door for the beginning of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Jesus had told his disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Heavenly Father. From the moment of the Ascension, the living hope of all Christians has been the Second Coming of Christ, not to deal with sin, but to save those who wait for the Second Coming anxiously. At the time of the Ascension of the Lord, the countdown began. "About that day, nobody knows the time, neither the angels, nor the Son, but only the Father". "Therefore, you must also be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an unexpected hour." Once the Lord Jesus ascended to heaven, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since then, He has been the Mediator between God and humanity. From the moment of the Ascension of Jesus to heaven, his glorious reign began as the King of kings. Through the resurrection of Jesus, death was conquered, while Jesus has ascended to heaven, his divine presence continues with us, where he is worshiped daily in the tabernacle. Today's Gospel says: "And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the Temple blessing God. " The physical Church reflects the invisible Kingdom of God. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church reflects the new Jerusalem and the new Temple. The Presence of
Jesus in the Tabernacle reflects his Divine Presence among us and the Kingdom of God.
W
alking together as brothers and sisters:
Dear brothers and sisters, the above mentioned raises the importance of the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord over the fact that the Lord Jesus was taken to Heaven by the angels. While the Resurrection was the point that marks the moment of salvation in history, the Ascension is the point that marks the beginning of the Kingdom of God in history. These are some reasons to celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Let's ask ourselves during this week: What are the concrete actions that I have taken to make known the Kingdom of God? What else can I do so that others can know Jesus Our Savior? Dear brothers and sisters, this summer I will be absent during the months of June and July. I will be accompanying the brothers in formation in their second novitiate, please keep us in your prayers so that this time of final discernment may be very fruitful for them. United in prayer… Fr. Jose Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

REFLEXION del
M
P. Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

A WAITING HARVEST
Vocation Awareness
The Ordinary Vocation: Holy Marriage. Part II Last century there was a talented professor in France named Frederick Ozanam. He taught at the Sorbonne, and he was eloquent and capable. Frederick Ozanam was the founder of the Conference of Charity, which later became the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Catholic organization which cares for the poor. His friend was a famous writer, Lacordaire, who said: “He is so gifted. He is so good. He will become a priest. He will become a great bishop, this fellow!” No. Frederick Ozanam met a nice girl and they got married. Lacordaire was disappointed and he said. “Poor Ozanam! He too has fallen into the trap of marriage!” Two years later, Lacordaire came to Rome, and he was received by Pope Pius IX. The Holy Father said to Lacordaire: “Come, come, father. I have always heard that Jesus established seven sacraments. Now you come along and change everything. You tell me that he established six sacraments and a trap. No, Father, marriage is not a trap, it is a great sacrament.”
Many young men move instinctively towards marriage as if it is the only possibility. This is a mistake. God is asking that every young man seriously consider and pray about all the possible vocations. Marriage must be prayerfully and carefully discerned over time, like every other vocation. Some men simply reason, “Well, I’m attracted to girls, so I must be called to marriage.” Being attracted to females is an indication that a man is normal and healthy, but it does not necessarily indicate a call from God to marriage. In fact, if a man is seriously considering priesthood, his vocation director will want to confirm that he has a normal healthy attraction to marriage and family. If he does not, he cannot really properly discern or choose priesthood. (This is discussed further in chapter 13.) Marriage is a wonderful vocation and the one to which most men are called by God. But it must be discerned, not just assumed.
Marriage is indeed a great sacrament. We are told in scripture that the love of a husband and wife for each other is a sign of Christ’s love for his bride, the Church.
From the Book “To Save a Thousand Souls” Fr. Brett A. Brannen

With the Heart of Jesus
In the Eucharist we find all the good of the Church. In it we have the certainty that God is faithful to His promise and stays with us until the end of time. In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the good shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend. We all experience this large support in our lives provided by faith and our personal and intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Eucharist.
