Dear brothers and sisters, blessed be the widow who trusted Divine Providence so completely. Blessed are those who persevere in their living faith. I hope everybody had a wonderful week last week, and I pray this coming week brings you much more joy in the peace of the Lord Jesus. The three readings today speak about a widow. In the first reading, we hear of the widow who shared the last things she had to eat with the prophet Elijah. In the Gospel, we see the poor widow who gives the last money she had to live on. In the second reading, though we don’t hear the word “widow”, we gather that the Catholic Church that Jesus was forming during his ministry on earth, became a widow when He offered Himself as sacrifice to rid the world of sin. In all three cases, there was a great sacrifice. In the first reading the widow who fed the prophet Elijah sacrificed everything she had for her son and herself. In the second reading, Jesus offered Himself up as sacrifice, He who was the only Son of God, and in whom the fullness of God decided to live fully. In the Gospel reading, the widow offered her last two copper coins as sacrifice. All three of them trusted God the Father. The widow in the first reading trusted in the God of Israel to provide for her future needs so neither she nor her son would perish of hunger. Jesus trusted God the Father to raise Him up from the dead. The poor widow trusted Yahweh to tend to her needs. And in all three cases every one of these people were blessed in accordance with their sacrifice. The widow and her son did not suffer hunger because the jar of flour did not run out, nor did the jar of oil run dry. Jesus was glorified by God the Father. “When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, as

theirs.” The poor widow, seen by God made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, gives everything she had to Yahweh, and so her actions are recorded in Scriptures, so we may remember her al through the ages. God always rewards those who persevere in their living faith. Nobody goes unnoticed. If you are proud like the scribes who walked around in long tunics so people would greet them with respect at the marketplace, and receive the best sets in the synagogue, and places of honor at the banquet, then you too, like the scribes, make yourself known, and receive a greater punishment. If you are humble like the poor widow, then you will be noted, God will raise you and reward you in accordance with your sacrifice. My brothers and sisters, there is no room in heaven for the indifferent, for those who fulfill the bare minimum of the Christian life so they can be “acceptable” to God. The Book of Revelation tells us: “I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Those who are lukewarm are the ones that say: “I only go to Church on Sundays because weekdays are not mandatory.” “I only give $5 a week at the time of the collection, because that’s what everybody does.” “I don’t read the Bible, I know enough about Scripture.” “I can’t get involved with the Parish Council because there are other worldly pleasures to attend.” Regarding these answers, St Paul writes: “ I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you

may discern what is the will of God”, like the widow who fed Elijah, she knew the will of the Father. The poor widow that gave her two coins, she knew the will of God. The Lord Jesus, who gave Himself up for our sins, He knew the will of God. All three of them embraced their spiritual worship, and did what is good and pleasing and perfect, in the eyes of God.

Dear brothers and sisters, over thirty years ago some of our brothers and sisters saw the need to found a new parish, and this building was dedicated and every day the Eucharist has been celebrated, and other sacraments. Maybe great sacrifices were made back then to build this beautiful church, St Elizabeth Ann Seton. Today, it is our turn to see to the maintenance of this building. Some things have already been done, like the AC, floors, carpet, and many other things that have needed repair through these years. Today one of the costliest projects is upon us, and I

What can I say, Lord, Lord? A little or a lot? With words or with actions? With sensitivity or with harshness? With purity or with the darkness of ingratitude? Forgetting my own unworthiness, allow me to tell you, with loving respect: I love You, yes, I love You so much and I love You a million times, in every heartbeat… in every breath, in every moment! I love you with a thousand martyrdoms of love! I love You with the very intimate and indescribable subtleties of tenderness! Queridos hermanos y hermanas, bendecida sea la viuda que depositó su completa confianza en la Divina Providencia de Dios. Bienaventurados los que perseveran en su fe viva. Espero que todos hayan tenido una estupenda semana pasada y que esta semana venidera les traiga mucha más alegría en la paz del Señor Jesús. Hoy las tres lecturas hablan de viudas. En la primera lectura, está la viuda que compartió lo último de su comida con el profeta Elías. En el Evangelio, está la viuda pobre que dio todo lo que ella tenía para vivir. En la segunda lectura, aunque no se usa la palabra "viuda", percibimos que la Iglesia Católica que Jesús estaba instituyendo en la tierra durante su ministerio, quedó viuda cuando se ofreció a sí mismo como un sacrificio para eliminar el pecado del mundo. En los tres casos, se hizo un gran sacrificio. En la primera lectura, la viuda que alimentaba al profeta Elías, sacrificó todo lo que tenía para ella y para su hijo. En la segunda lectura, Jesús se sacrificó a sí mismo, el que fue el unigénito de Dios y en quien la plenitud de Dios se complació en habitar corporalmente. En la lectura del Evangelio, la viuda sacrificó sus dos últimas monedas de cobre. En los tres casos, todos confiaron en Dios Padre. La viuda que alimentó a Elías confió en el Dios de Israel para satisfacer sus necesidades futuras para que ella y su hijo no murieran de hambre. Jesús confió en Dios Padre para resucitarlo de entre los muertos. La pobre viuda que le dio sus últimas monedas confió en Yahvé para satisfacer sus necesidades. Y en los tres casos, todos y cada uno de ellos fueron bendecidos de acuerdo con su sacrificio. La viuda y su hijo nunca pasaron hambre porque la jarra de la comida no se vació, ni tampoco la jarra de aceite falló. Jesús fue glorificado por Dios el Padre. "Cuando hizo la purificación de los pecados, se sentó a la diestra de la Majestad en lo alto, habiéndose vuelto tan superior a los ángeles como el nombre que heredó es más excelente que el de ellos". La viuda pobre, en presencia de Dios encarnado a través de Jesucristo, le dio todo lo que tenía a Yahveh, habiendo registrado su acción en las Sagradas Escrituras para que sea recordada durante todos los días del mundo. Dios siempre recompensa a aquellos que perseveran en su fe viva. Nadie pasa desapercibido. Si eres orgulloso, serás notado. Si eres humilde, también serás notado. Si te sientes orgulloso como

los escribas que caminaban en túnicas largas para que todos los saludaran con respeto en los mercados, y para tener los mejores asientos en las sinagogas y lugares de honor en el banquete, entonces tú también, como los escribas, hazte notar y recibe mayor condena. Si eres humilde como la viuda pobre que se conoce como nadie lo sabe, entonces serás notado, Dios te levantará y te recompensará de acuerdo con tu sacrificio. Mis hermanos y hermanas, no hay lugar en el Cielo para aquellos que son indiferentes, para aquellos que cumplen con los requisitos mínimos de la vida cristiana para que sean "aceptables" para Dios. El Libro del Apocalipsis nos dice: "Conozco tus obras; no eres ni frío ni caliente. Ojalá fueses frío o caliente. Entonces, porque eres tibio, y no frío ni caliente, estoy a punto de escupirte. de mi boca ". Los que son tibios son los que dicen: "Sólo voy a la Iglesia los domingos porque los días de semana no son obligatorios". Son los que dicen: "Solo doy $5 a la semana en la colecta del domingo porque eso es todo lo que dan los demás". Ellos son los que dicen: "No leo la Biblia, ni hago estudios bíblicos, porque sé lo suficiente acerca de las Escrituras". Ellos son los que dicen: "No me estoy involucrando en el Consejo Parroquial porque tengo otros placeres mundanos que atender". Con respecto a tales respuestas, San Pablo dice: "Presenta a tus cuerpos un sacrificio vivo, santo y aceptable para Dios, que es tu adoración espiritual. No te conformes con este mundo, sino que seas transformado por la renovación de tu mente, para que puedas discernir lo que hizo la viuda que alimentó a Elías, ella conocía la voluntad de Dios. La pobre viuda que le dio las dos últimas monedas, conocía la voluntad de Dios. El Señor Jesús, cuando se sacrificó en la Cruz por nuestros pecados, conoció la voluntad de Dios. Los tres abrazaron espiritualmente e hicieron lo que era bueno, aceptable y perfecto a los ojos de Dios.

Quizás con muchos sacrificios cooperaron para construir esta hermosa iglesia a Santa Elizabeth Ann Seton, hoy nos toca a nosotros mantener esta iglesia, ya en años pasados hemos venido renovando muchas partes tales como el piso, alfombra, aire acondicionado y muchas otras cosas que van necesitando mantenimiento, hoy se nos viene uno de los proyectos más costosos, como es el techo de toda la iglesia; por favor les pido a todos que nos ayuden a pagar los costos de esta renovación de este techo para que podamos

Thanksgiving Baskets – Society of St. Vincent de Paul Help someone less fortunate have a wonderful holiday meal. Please consider making a food donation of the following items: canned corn, boxed muffin mixes, boxed cake or brownie mixes, turkey gravy, instant mashed potatoes, boxed rice mixes, boxed crackers, boxed stuffing mix, canned fruit (peaches, pears, mixed), canned cranberries, canned yams, marshmallows, brown sugar, and instant Jell-O. Place these items in the St. Vincent de Paul bin in the vestibule by Thursday, November 15. Monetary donations can also be made . Donated funds will be used to purchase turkeys. Adult Faith Formation Women's Fellowship: - On Tuesday Nov 13th, Women's Fellowship will be studying The Psalms-School of Prayer by Jeff Cavins on DVD.
