reaking Open the Word of God:

God loved us first… He has trusted us first! Everything we have comes from God! He trusted us with the care of nature, the environment, all of his creation. He has trusted parents with the souls of their children. At the sacrament of baptism, he trusted us with a new heart and a new spirit. He trusted us to be the dwelling of the Holy Spirit. He has trusted us with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. As members of the Body of Christ, He has trusted us.

Dear brothers and sisters, the readings this Sunday prompt us to trust and hope in the Lord. Let us ask ourselves… what does it mean to trust in the Lord? Modern dictionaries define “trust” as having a firm belief in someone else’s honesty, the expressions we use are trust in someone, expect, be trustful in the other’s intentions. To trust somebody is to believe in them, have faith in My brothers and sisters, the Lord them and hope in them. has trusted us with a lot. It’s like the Once again, what does it mean to Parable of the Talents. The Lord has trust the Lord? It means that we, adults that we are, must accept with joy and thanksgiving everything that God provides for our material and spiritual needs, according to the call we’ve received in this life. It means acknowledging full of joy that the needs of a priest or a religious sister are different than those of a married couple. It means acknowledging with joy and gratefulness everything the Lord Our God has provided for each of us, depending on our basic needs. Why must we trust in God? Since

Dear brothers and sisters, this week let us meditate on everything that has been entrusted to us. Let us meditate about our trust in the Lord. And let us also think about our trust in others. Let us ask God for the grace to perceive our human frailties. Once done, by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the Name of Jesus, let us spiritually embrace those flaws and let us correct any lack of trust. This will enable us to be like the 5-year-old child and allow us to enjoy the fullness of life in all aspects. Let us trust in the Lord to fulfill our material and spiritual needs. Estimados hermanos y hermanas, las lecturas de este domingo nos invitan a reflexionar a que confiemos en el Señor. Preguntémonos: ¿qué significa confiar en el Señor? En primer lugar, consideremos cómo los diccionarios comunes definen la palabra "confianza". Afirman que "confiar" es tener una firme creencia en la honestidad de otro, confiar en alguien, tener una expectativa confiada, esperar, tener confianza en la intención del otro. Confiar en alguien es creer en alguien, tener fe en él y esperar en él. Volvámonos a preguntar, ¿qué significa confiar en el Señor? Para entender lo que significa confiar en el Señor, usaré el ejemplo de un niño. El niño confía completamente en sus padres para satisfacer todas las necesidades de su infancia, ¿no confía en que sus padres proporcionen amor, refugio, ropa, educación, alimentos, medicación, educación religiosa, valores, seguridad y todo lo demás? ¿Otras necesidades básicas que le aseguren la plenitud de su crecimiento físico y espiritual? ¿El niño dice: "Iré y encontraré mi propio lugar para quedarme" o "Me alimentaré en otro lugar"? ¡No! Acepta con alegría y acción de gracias todo lo que le proporcionan sus padres. Confiar en el Señor es lo mismo. Significa que nosotros, como adultos, debemos aceptar con alegría y agradecimiento todo lo que Dios provee para nuestras necesidades físicas y espirituales de acuerdo con el llamado que hemos recibido en la vida. Significa reconocer con alegría y acción de gracias que las necesidades de un sacerdote o una hermana religiosa son diferentes a las de una pareja casada. Significa reconocer con alegría y agradecimiento todas las cosas que el Señor Dios provee para cada uno de nosotros de acuerdo con nuestras necesidades básicas. ¿Por qué debemos confiar en Dios? Como Dios nos amó primero, ¡Él ha confiado en nosotros primero! ¡Todo lo que poseemos vino de Dios! Él confió en nosotros con el cuidado de la tierra, el medio ambiente, todas sus creaciones. Ha confiado a los padres de familia las almas de sus hijos. Durante el sacramento del bautismo, nos confió un corazón y un espíritu nuevos. Él confió en

nosotros para ser morada del Espíritu Santo. Él nos confió los dones del Espíritu Santo. Como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, Él confió en nosotros. Mis hermanos y hermanas, el Señor nos ha confiado mucho. Es como en la parábola de los talentos. El Señor nos dio mucho y espera que ganemos mucho más de lo que Él ha depositado en nuestra confianza. Si tomamos lo que el Señor nos ha dado y abusamos de él, al final, no tendremos nada. Si tomamos lo que se nos ha dado en confianza y lo invertimos en nuestro crecimiento espiritual, en el amor hacia los demás, en el cuidado de aquellos en nuestra confianza, se nos dará mucho más. Esta es la ley espiritual de la justicia divina.

Estimados hermanos y hermanas, esta semana, reflexionemos sobre lo que se ha puesto en nuestra confianza. Reflexionemos sobre nuestra confianza hacia el Señor. Y reflexionemos sobre nuestra confianza hacia los demás. Oremos por la gracia de Dios para iluminar nuestras mentes para que podamos percibir nuestras debilidades humanas. Entonces, por el poder del Espíritu Santo en el Nombre de Jesús, abracemos una mente espiritual y corrijamos cualquier falta de confianza que podamos tener para que, como el niño de cinco años, podamos disfrutar de la plenitud de la vida en todos los aspectos. The Sacred Power of Priesthood In Persona Christi Capitis A priest friend once told me this story. One parishioner, a daily communicant, invited him to supper. During the super, the devout Catholic man said, “Father, explain the priesthood to me in thirty seconds or less,” The man smiled, knowing that this was impossible. But the priest replied, “That’s easy. I will ask you three questions. When you go to Mass each day, do you believe that you are really receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus in Holy Communion?” The man said,” Absolutely. I know it’s Jesus!” The priest continued, “When you go to confession, do you really believe that all of your sins have been completely forgiven, even mortal sins?” The man replies, “Yes Father, I am completely confident that my sins are gone.” “Finally, do you agree that only Jesus Christ himself has the power to do these things?” The man stared at the priest and nodded affirmatively. The priest concluded, “Then you know what priesthood is. The priesthood brings the very power of Jesus down to earth out of love and mercy for his people.”

A priest, by virtue of his ordination and the sacred power entrusted to him, acts in persona Christi capitis, in the person of Christ, the head [of the Church]. Catholics know this is true and witness it daily. For example, when a priest baptizes a boy, he says, “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” He does not say, “Jesus baptizes you…” At Holy Mass, the priest says in the first person. “This is my body, which is given up for you. Do this in memory of me” And in Confession, does the priest say “Jesus absolves you of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”? Of course not. The priest says, “I absolve you of your sins…” A priest functions and exists in persona Christi capitis. It is really Jesus who is baptizing. It is Jesus who is offering himself in the Mass. It is Jesus who forgives sins in Confession. It is the raised hand of Jesus expelling demons from possessed men. But it is his priest who’s saying the words, acting in the very person of Christ (CCC #1548). From the Book “To Save a Thousand Souls” Fr. Brett A. Brannen

Mass Linens Ministry Every time we celebrate Mass linens are used to set the altar and distribute communion. They need to be laundered with special care and following specific instructions, but this ministry is very fulfilling for those who cannot participate in ministries with meetings, or structured schedules. People helping launder linens are scheduled once a month to take home half the linens used during the week, and bring them back mid-week.
