~ REFLECTION ~

We take a short break from Sundays in Ordinary Time this weekend for a solemnity that is celebrated on June 24 every year, no matter the day of the week: The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. Before he was born, John was chosen by God to prepare the world for the Son of God. Today, as we remember the birth of Saint John the Baptist, let us recall our own baptism and our initiation into the Christian faith.

Nos tomamos un breve descanso de los domingos del tiempo Ordinario este fin de semana para la solemnidad de la Natividad de san Juan Bautista, que siempre se celebra el 24 de junio, sin importar el día de la semana en que caiga. Juan fue escogido ya antes de nacer para preparar al mundo para la venida del Hijo de Dios. Hoy, al recordar el nacimiento de san Juan Bautista, recordemos también nuestro propio bautismo y nuestra iniciación en la fe cristiana.

Recently, abuse against women has been thrust into the public spotlight, with the “Me Too” movement. It is important for parents/caregivers be aware of risks to girls and risks to boys. Boys and girls both need to be educated on what’s acceptable and what’s inappropriate, and how to react if someone does something that crosses the line. It is important for adults to reinforce the message that we must all look for, identify, and call attention to the risky behavior exhibited by any adult toward any child.
