May 26th — June 1st In Memory of: Lorraine Danza Requested by: Mr. & Mrs. Johnston & Mary O’Flaherty

Our Parish Mission Statement The Parish of St. John Bosco is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual Catholic Faith community that proclaims Jesus Christ. In the spirit of St. John Bosco, we do this by being a Home that welcomes all especially the young and the poor; a School that prepares for life through religious, educational and social services; a Parish that evangelizes through Word & Sacrament, Worship and Faith Formation; a Playground where lasting friendship and relationships are formed and developed through recreational and social opportunities.

From the Desk of Fr. Pat On this Feast of Mary Help of Christians, I want to share with you some thoughts from our Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez. We, as members of the Salesian Family of Don Bosco, can not imagine ourselves without Her, because “She has done everything and continues to do so! At this point it occurs to me to ask you: Who is the Virgin for you? Who is she for me? I invite you to contemplate Mary with the eyes of intelligence and heart and to contemplate her as a Woman, Mother, Teacher and Help. She is, above all, Woman. In the fourth Gospel, Jesus calls her this, on two “central” occasions: in the first miracle that he does, at the Wedding of Cana, the sign by which “… his disciples believed in Him”, and at the time of the cross, when Mary and Jesus’ beloved disciple were there. And contemplating her as a woman means always undertaking the path of humanization that marks the Salesian vocation in all the members of our Family. We live and work for a true humanity, in fraternal solidary and in peace. And she is the first one that accompanies us to do this. Mary is also for us Mother, even more, Mom! God has chosen for his Son a true mother. Surely, Jesus, while growing up with Mary and Joseph, recognized, in his home the warm and welcoming love that he had experienced in all eternity next to his Father, the Father of all. Mary was a Mom, like so many of our moms. And what did the shepherds see when they came to Bethlehem? Did they not find a mom and dad who were taking care of their child? That’s why she’s a mother: Because she takes care of us! And that is when Jesus’ gift to his friend shines brightest: “There you have your mother!” She is our Mother because by taking care of us she teaches us, from the depths of our soul, to take care of ourselves and one another. Mary is also a teacher! The teacher who repeats to us again and again: “Do what he [Jesus] tells you”; the teacher who was the first to know how to keep all the things of Jesus in her heart and teaches us to do the same. A Christian is one who knows how to keep the things of Jesus in his heart and always drinks from that treasure. Finally, Mary is our Help; the first action of the woman and mother, after the Annunciation of the Angel was put herself at the service of Elizabeth. Mary is the one who realizes that wine was lacking in Cana… she makes Jesus act, thus helping to keep happiness in the feast of life. Therefore, I tell you once again: do not be afraid of anything, because Mary is our Help, she is our Mother and Teacher who teaches us to be true missionary disciples of Jesus and to take care of our life to make it more human, according to the measure of Christ, the eternal Word born of Woman. Mary Help of Christians Pray for us!

Maria e nossa Mae.

Zapraszam was do rozważenia tego z otwartym sercem i zrozumieniem. Jezus dorastał w pełnym miłości i oddania domu. Ciagle towarzyszy nam i wspomaga w trudnych chwilach. A co zobaczyli pasterze, gdy przybyli do Betlejem? Spostrzegli matkę a w jej ramionach Dzieciątko Jezus.

In the Gospel reading today Jesus tells his disciples that he will be leaving them to go back to his Father. Jesus tries to help his friends understand that even though he is leaving them, he will always be with them. Jesus tells his disciples that they will not be left alone. The Father will send the Holy Spirit to help them remember all that Jesus has taught them. Jesus tells his disciples that he his leaving them with a very special gift, the gift of peace. The peace that Jesus gives his followers is different from the peace that the world has to give. The peace that Jesus gives lives in the hearts of believers forever. Jesus brings comfort and peace to his disciples by telling them that he will always be with them. Reflection for this week: How can you share the gift of peace with others? What helps you feel peaceful? Dear Jesus, you give us the gift of peace. Help us to be peacemakers in our world. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
