Happy Mother’s Day to all our Moms!!! Our prayers and wishes are with each of you on this beautiful day! And, naturally, for those of us whose mothers are already with God, we pray for them, confident they continue to watch over us, pray for us and protect us from their place in heaven. This day also reminds us of our heavenly Mother, Our Blessed Mother Mary! What a gift Jesus gave us when He gave us His Mother to be our Mother also! In this month of May, we turn to her in a special way. Every day this month, we, as a parish family turn to her in the recitation of her favorite prayer, the holy rosary, and we ask her for her motherly protection — and we experience it! She is with us! As a Salesian, my thoughts and heart naturally go to Don Bosco— his great love for our Blessed Mother; his overwhelming confidence and trust in her; his absolute certainty that “Mary has done it all!” It is enough for us to recall the “miracle’ of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin. Don Bosco began that building project with exactly eight cents to his name! On the back wall of the Basilica we read his conviction: “Mary built this house for herself! From the day I arrived in Port Chester in July 2015, knowing the merger would be a big challenge for all of us, I entrusted all that would need to be done to her. I think of our four churches: Sacred Heart, Our Lady of the Rosary, Corpus Christi and Our Lady of Mercy. Mary is a very common thread in each of them. Through the Incarnation, she gave birth to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and became the mother of the “Body of Christ (Corpus Christi); we her children pray her Rosary asking for her protection, knowing she is a Mother of Mercy! She is truly the Mother and Help of Christians! As we move forward, after our merger, to form one new parish family, I invite each of us to turn to her with the confidence and devotion of Don Bosco— she will make it happen. She understands. She who had to “let go” and watch her Son die on the Cross so that He could make all things new for us, knows the suffering many of us feel as we watch our churches change in such a radical way in order that we might become something new— a new parish family that will give clearer and more vibrant testimony to our belief that Jesus is Lord! I ask each of us to really pray to her asking for the strength we need to change our hearts so that we can continue to embrace the new life we are being called to live and share! Mary Mother of the Church, pray for us! God bless you!

Feliz dia das mães a todas vocês, mães!

TO OUR CHILDREN AND PARENTS “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.” JOHN 17:17-19 In today’s gospel, we hear the beautiful Prayer of Jesus to the Father in heaven. As Jesus prepares to return to God, he is in the midst of a long prayer for his disciples. Jesus asks his Father to seal and strengthen the disciples, as they will now be the ones to carry out the work begun by Jesus. He especially asks that they not be influenced by the evil one. We are all disciples of Jesus and this prayer is also for us, especially our young people who are on their journey of faith. Parents accompany your children on their faith journey, praying for them and letting them know that you believe in them and that you have faith in God. We are all disciples of Jesus and our children are our future disciples! God Bless You! Questions of the Week: Who needs my prayers this week?

The Same Spirit! Bishop Josu Iriondo presided at the Sacrament of Confirmation for Saint John Bosco Parish on Saturday, April 28th where 155 young people received the sacrament and were renewed with the same spirit that descended on the apostles at Pentecost. Bishop Iriondo encouraged our newly confirmed to embrace and make use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit throughout their Christian life with boldness and confidence. He expressed to our young people that they are now marked with the cross of Jesus and therefore they are claimed by Jesus to continue His works and love to all! Through our church ministries, especially our Youth Ministry, the Parish of Saint John Bosco will accompany our young people as they go forward to do the works of Jesus! Congratulations and God Bless You!
