Our Parish Mission Statement The Parish of St. John Bosco is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual Catholic Faith community that proclaims Jesus Christ. In the spirit of St. John Bosco, we do this by being a Home that welcomes all especially the young and the poor; a School that prepares for life through religious, educational and social services; a Parish that evangelizes through Word & Sacrament, Worship and Faith Formation; a Playground where lasting friendship and relationships are formed and developed through recreational and social opportunities.

From the Desk of Fr. Pat Happy and Blessed Mothers’ Day to all of our Moms! As we remember our Moms today, I was reflecting on how much each of us owes his/her mother: the gift of life and the thousand little acts of love that so often go unnoticed or are taken for granted. I recently read this little story which I think is well worth reprinting for us to think about. My mom only had one eye. I hated her… she was such an embarrassment. She cooked at the school I was in to support the family. One day when in elementary school my mom came to talk to my teachers to see how my grades were. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates laughed at me because of my mom. I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, “If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?” My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied really hard and got a chance to study abroad. Then, I got married, bought a house, and I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life and family. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, “How dare you come to my house and scare my children! And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.”— and she disappeared. One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After this reunion, I went to my old neighborhood just out of curiosity. My neighbors informed me that my mom had died. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

“My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see….. When you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. With all my love to you, Your mother.” Thank you, Moms, for all of your Love! Today we pray for you and say “I’m glad God gave you to me.” God bless you Mom!

-Cardenal Jose Mindszenty

Eu me senti muito envergonhado. Porque ela estava fazendo isso comigo? Eu a ignorei, fiz cara feia para ela e me fui. Eu me casei, comprei uma casa e tive meus filhos. Eu estava feliz com a minha vida e minha família. Um dia a minha mãe veio visitar-me. A minha mãe respondeu: “ desculpa! Eu devo estar no endereço errado” e desapareceu.

Szczęśliwego i błogosławionego Dnia Matki dla wszystkich naszych Mam! Matce zawdzięczamy bardzo wiele.Dała nam życie, otoczyła opieką i cały czas daje nam tysiące drobnych aktów miłości. Czasami nawet tego nie zauważamy. Wydaje nam się , że to takie zwyczajne. Ostatnio przeczytałem krótką opowieść i pragnę się nią podzielić . „ Moja matka miała tylko jedno oko. Nienawidziłem jej, bo przynosiła mi wstyd. Żeby nas utrzymać ,pracowała w stołówce w szkole do której sam uczęszczałem. Pewnego dnia przyszła do moich nauczycieli, aby zapytać o moje wyniki. Ciężko studiowałem i dostałem szansę , by pogłębiać dalszą naukę za granicą. Niech was Bóg błogosławi!

In today’s gospel Jesus describes himself as a shepherd who loves and cares for his sheep. Those who follow Jesus are his sheep. Today’s gospel passage tells us that those who belong to Jesus are held safely in the hand of God. Jesus also promises that his sheep will never perish. Not only does Jesus give his followers guidance and protection, they are also promised the gift of eternal life. Reflec on for this week: How do you show Jesus that you love him? How can you help others to follow Jesus? Dear Jesus, you are our good shepherd. You love and care for your sheep. Help us to always follow you as you lead us toward what is good and right. In the name of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we pray. Amen.
