Dear Parishioners, Today we hear the Gospel story about Martha and Mary from Luke’s perspective. Martha is worried about preparing and serving a feast for Jesus and his disciples and Mary who was listening to Jesus speak. Martha complains that Mary is not helping out and Jesus says that Mary has chosen the better part. Jesus wants us to be like Mary, he wants to spend time with him. How many of us are like Martha, so caught up in what needs to be done, what needs to be seen that we don’t take time out to spend in prayer? How many of us are caught up in planning vacations and filling every moment with things and people to see that we don’t take time to enjoy the vacation or the people we are around? We often are so exhausted that we need to take a break to get caught up from the vacation. Jesus is tells us to slow down, enjoy the moment and to spend some time with family and friends. We are more than half way through summer and in less than a month on Monday, August 12th, school begins. Have we taken time to play as a family? Have we taken time to pray as a family? Have we taken time to develop our own relationship with Jesus? If not, let us take some time this week and be like Mary. Let us take time to pray and spend with Jesus. Let us not be so busy with the things that we have to do that we neglect our relationships with Jesus and with others. Also, as you are shopping for back to school supplies, we need pencils, pens, construction paper, copy paper, white board markers, glue sticks, erasers, color markers for our religious education classes. Please bring them to the bin in the church or the office. If you moved or there is a change in your telephone number or additional family members, please fill out a new registration form. Martha está preocupada por preparar y servir una fiesta para Jesús y sus discípulos y María, que estaba escuchando a Jesús hablar. Marta se queja de que María no está ayudando y Jesús dice que María ha elegido la mejor parte. Jesús quiere que seamos como María, él quiere que pasemos tiempo con El. ¿Cuántos de nosotros somos como Martha, tan atrapados en lo que hay que hacer, qué hay que ver que no nos tomamos el tiempo para orar? ¿Cuántos de nosotros estamos atrapados planeando vacaciones y llenando cada momento con cosas y personas y no nos tomamos el tiempo para disfrutar las vacaciones o las personas con quienes nos encontramos? A menudo estamos tan cansados que necesitamos tomar un descanso para quedar atrapados en las vacaciones. Jesús nos dice que disminuyamos la velocidad, disfrutemos el momento y pasemos un tiempo con la familia y los amigos. Estamos a más de la mitad del verano y en menos de un mes, el Lunes 12 de Agosto, comienzan las clases. ¿Hemos tomado tiempo para jugar en familia? ¿Hemos tomado tiempo para orar en familia? ¿Hemos tomado tiempo para desarrollar nuestra propia relación con Jesús? Si no, tomemos algo de tiempo esta semana y seamos como María. Tomemos tiempo para orar y pasar con Jesús. No estemos tan ocupados con las cosas que tenemos que hacer que descuidemos nuestras relaciones con Jesús y con los demás. Además, mientras va de compras para los útiles escolares, necesitamos lápices, bolígrafos, papel de construcción, papel de copia, marcadores de pizarra, barras de pegamento, gomas de borrar, marcadores de colores para nuestras clases de Educación Religiosa. Volunteers Needed! Our Altar Linen Ministry is seeking new volunteers. The Altar Linen Ministry volunteers wash, clean, dry, iron and fold liturgical lines to keep them in proper condition for use at Mass. On assigned weeks a volunteer will take home all the linens and return the same week. My name is Nicholas Roman and I need Your help with my Eagle Scout Project! My project is to collect sport equipment to enrich Nevada Partnership with Homeless Youth.
