May the Lord continue to Bless you! 2
Dear Parishioners, Last Saturday, March 30th we had three boys complete their Eagle Scout Project. Ethan Lopez-Laing, Luis Sandoval, and Ian Williams painted the sheds, parking lot wall, built steps, and put in pavers and benches in a meditation area and re-rocked the landscaping. Ethan and Luis are in our Confirmation 1 classes. If you see them, thank them for their beautiful work. On Monday, April 8th we will be having our Lenten Penance Service between 4 pm and 8 pm. We will have many priests to hear Confessions in English and Spanish. This will be the last opportunity to go to confession before Easter unless you make an appointment. There will be no Confessions April 11th or 13th. Continue to join us in the Catholicism Series on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am and evenings at 7:30 pm. This week we talk about Mary. Join us next Friday, April 12th for the last Soup Supper at 6 pm and Stations of the Cross at 7 pm. If you have old blessed palms, bring them back to the church. Next weekend is Palm Sunday and we begin Holy Week. If you can, wear red. See the Holy Week and Easter schedule in the bulletin. May you have a blessed Lent and Holy Week.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Steve Hoffer Pastor of Holy Family

EASTER BASKET BLESSING, SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 2019 AT 9:00 AM
Each of the foods which traditionally make up the Easter basket has a deep and symbolic meaning:
THE BASKET CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING BUTTER: This favorite dairy product is often shaped into a lamb or a cross. This reminds us of the goodness of Christ that we should have toward all things. EASTER BREAD: A round loaf topped with a cross or a fish, symbolic of Jesus, who is our true Bread of Life. HORSERADISH: (horseradish often with grated red beets) – Symbolic of the Passion of Christ still in our minds but sweet ened with some sugar because of the Resurrection. EGGS: – Eggs were always considered as a symbol of the resurrection, the emergence of a new life. At Easter our Savior came forth from the tomb as the chick after breaking the shell at birth. Because of this special meaning, it is fitting that Easter eggs be colored or decorated (often with the symbols of Easter, of life, of prosperity). Kiełbasa :(sausage) – A spicy sausage of pork products, indicative of God’s favour and generosity. HAM: – Symbolic of great joy and abundance. Some prefer lamb or veal. The lamb also reminds Catholics that the Risen Christ is the ‘Lamb of God.” SMOKED BACON: – A symbol of the overabundance of God’s mercy and generosity. SALT: – So necessary an element in our physical life, that Jesus used its symbolism: “You are the salt of the earth.” CHEESE: Symbolic of the moderation Christians should have at all times. CANDLE: Represents Christ as the Light of the World. COLORFUL RIBBONS AND SPRIGS OF GREENERY: Attached to the basket as signs of joy and new life in the season of spring and in celebration of the resurrection. LINEN / CROCHET COVER: Drawn over the top of the basket which is ready for the priest’s visit to the home or the trip to church where it is joined with the baskets of others to await the blessing.
