Dear Parishioners, This weekend we celebrate another story of Christmas. We celebrate Matthew’s version were we have the visit of the magi (wise-men) after journeying and following a star. Jesus is now probably about two years old and would not have been found in a stable, rather would have been found in a home. We know he was probably 1.5 to 2 years old, because King Herod had the boys two years and younger killed in and around Bethlehem. The magi sought out Jesus. As we enter a new year, we are called to seek out Jesus. We are called to have a relationship with Him. It is not too late to make a New Year’s Resolution. Maybe our resolution can be to spend more time in prayer, reading the Bible, attending mass regularly, going regularly to Confession, helping those in need, spending time in Adoration … and the list could go on. Spend some time this year nurturing your faith and following the Light of Christ. On behalf of Fr. Tony, I want to thank all of you who have given us gifts, cards, invited us out to dinner, and offered prayers for us. There are too many of you to thank personally, but we really appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness. Father Tony and I would like to thank all those who decorated for Christmas, especially Celia and her team, Gustavo Rodriguez who helped Celia, our maintenance: Scott, Ken, and Gustavo, our choirs, lectors, ushers, greeters, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, mass coordinators, altar servers, and anyone we may have forgotten. Your efforts made Christmas a beautiful celebration. I know some of you have said that you wished the Nativity set was in a different location. Our head decorator Barbara Lazarski died this past year, and unfortunately we were trying to decorate from memory. Celia and her team are volunteers and are doing great and are figuring things out as they go along. All I can say is that if you have suggestions, get involved and volunteer to help decorate. This is your parish and we need everyone to get invested. I know for myself, I cannot do what I did last Easter or this past Christmas. You probably are unaware, but all the decorations that were put up in the Church for Easter last year were done by Ken and me. Our staff had the created the floral displays, and Ken and I arranged them because no volunteers showed up to help us. I was climbing up ladders with a newly healed broken wrist. This past Christmas, on Sunday, December 23rd, I had some volunteers from after the 7 pm mass help me tear down the Advent banners and Advent wreath and put up the Christmas banners and bring in the poinsettias (and I am grateful for this). On Christmas Eve, I was running around like a chicken with his head cutoff trying to get everything ready. On Christmas Day at the 12 noon English mass, we only had two Eucharistic Ministers. This is not to toot my own horn, but I was doing things, because our volunteers did not show up. I should not be climbing ladders and doing everything, we need everyone to step up and get involved. This is you parish, not just mine. I oversee the parish. We need to put our faith into action. We need more people to help with decorations, to serve as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers, altar servers, cleaning linens, etc. So on the weekend of January 26-27, we will have a ministry fair where we will need you to step up and get involved. As we continue through the Christmas season, next weekend we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus. Let us reflect on the Christmas story from Luke about the shepherds, and the story from Matthew about the magi. Let us reflect on our baptismal call to be priests, prophets, and kings. How are we going to grow in our faith this year? How are we going to tell others about Jesus? How are we going to put our faith into action? I pray that this Year of Our Lord 2019 will be filled with blessings. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Sincerely yours in Christ, Steve Hoffer, Pastor of Holy Family

Adoration It’s a New Year. Let us continue to make our life a reflection of God and honor Him in Adoration. Holy Family Chapel is our hidden treasure. As Father Steve reminds us, we are to find time to develop a personal relationship with Jesus in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. May a weekly commitment to keep company with the One who had no place to lay His head be yours this 2019. Jesus did not leave us to walk our journey alone. He remains with us always in the Eucharist wanting to be with us, in us, and for us.
Mon. 12Noon to 3:30pm Tues. through Friday 8am to 3:30pm.
