Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This past Sunday we heard Jesus say "Follow Me". Today we hear Jesus sending the disciples out two by two. When we hear these Gospel stories we think they are ancient history and they don't really apply to me today. But all of us, by virtue of our baptism are called to tell others about Jesus. We are called to help those in need. We are called to make a difference in our world. We do that by changing one life at a time. We start with being nice to those around us. We do the right thing. We help lift the burdens of those around us. We do this by praying for those in need. Are we putting our faith into action? Are we telling others about who Jesus is? As I mentioned last week in my article, I am currently working at Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. It is a place where people come to do a ten day backpacking trip. Everything they need, food, shelter, clothing, food, and water, are carried on their backs. I think about what they are doing and what Jesus said to his disciples. Jesus told his disciples to carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals. Now he his not telling those backpacking or us not to have stuff, but Jesus is saying that our stuff should not weigh us down or hold us back from telling others about Jesus. Jesus is saying don't watch the View or Wheel of Fortune if it means neglecting your spouse or kids or those in need. Don't buy things, for the sake of buying things if you are not going to use it or wear it. What must we do to help those in need? What must we do to tell others about Jesus? Jesus is calling us to Follow Him and proclaim the Kingdom of God. As we gather for family reunions, as we vacation, let us remember to put God into our plans and let us treat others the way we want to be treated. Let us Follow the Lord. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sincerely yours in Christ / Tuyo en Cristo, Father Steve Hoffer Pastor of Holy Family

Diocesan Conference 2019 United in Christ / Unidos en Cristo September 6th & 7th Texas Station Hotel & Casino Reserve your spot today! The 2019 Diocesan Conference is excited to present Michael Ruzicki, who is the Training and Events Manager for Liturgy Training Publications. Michael is the author of “Guide for Training Initiation Ministries: An Introduction to the RCIA” (LTP 2018) and “Signs and Symbols of the Liturgy: An Experience of Ritual and Catechesis” (LTP 2018) and serves as the director of music at Notre Dame de Chicago Parish. He will be offering two workshops at our conference. The first is the “bonus session” which will take place on Friday late afternoon, “Liturgy: The Source and Summit of our Lives” which will offer suggestions that will “make Mass matter” in the parish community. The second workshop is “Sunday Mass: One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic” where we will understand that participating in Mass is the most important thing Catholics do, for it is at Mass that we are changed, becoming what we receive, the Body and Blood of Christ. The Mass charges us with the most important mission- to be Christ in a world that is broken and in need of healing. The Conference is a great opportunity to meet with hundreds of our Catholic brothers and sisters and learn from our faith and be witnesses among us. When Bishop Thomas was ordained Bishop for the first time, he chose the motto: "Christ Our Light!" Let us gather together in this special time as a Diocese to learn and grow as members of the body of Christ, called to be light for the world. Do not miss it!
The conference price will be $75.
