Dear Room 7 Families, It makes me sad to share this information. Tomorrow, January 25, is Darian’s last day with us. His family has moved and he will be transferring to another school on Monday. The students were told earlier this week. Good luck, Darian, at your new school. We will miss you! Come back to visit us when you can! Things we have learned about this week: Religion​-At the beginning of the week, the students colored and wrote thank you notes to the St. Bernard parishioners as part of the kick-off for Catholic Schools Week Mass on the weekend. The students learned more about parables and watched a few short parable videos. Look for illustrations of parables on the walls at Open House on Sunday. We also watched a movie, looked at two pieces of artwork, and talked about Jesus’ first miracle, Changing Water into Wine at Cana. The students have great observation skills when looking at the artwork! Reading​-Students have been studying fact and opinion this week by learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. They also researched MLK, Jr.’s biography and completed a timeline. We also read to our Reading Buddies on Wednesday. I love to see the 4K students’ faces when they see their Reading Buddies are there to read to them!! Precious!! Math-​The students are almost finished with the geometry unit. This week, the classes learned about rotation, reflection, translation, congruent, and symmetry. Next week, the classes will review the main ideas and take a test on geometry. Next up….FRACTIONS!! Grammar​-The grammar class this week was about future tense verbs. The students learned that by adding the word “will” to the front of a verb will make it a future tense verb! Writing​-Almost everyone has finished their persuasive essays. I have a few more students whom I would like to sit down with to do some more proofreading. Winter stories are almost completed, too. I have read some creative stories this week. Social Studies​-Our main topics this week were Martin Luther King, Jr., using a map grid to find places on a map, looking at a real paper map of WI, and map scale. The students also sang the Midwest States song over and over and over!! Tomorrow will be our first Mass that our Reading Buddies will attend with us. We practiced on Monday about what to do during Mass. The fourth graders are excited to be helping their Reading Buddies. St. Bernard School’s Open House is this week Sunday. Any Room 7 students who come to school from 9 AM to 12 PM (You do NOT have to spend the whole time in our classroom), and sign an attendance sheet will receive a FREE homework pass that they can use through the month of May. I will hand out the homework passes on Monday. Many activities will be set up throughout the school. Room 7 will have a STEAM (science technology engineering art math)

activity that includes paper airplanes! Design your own paper airplane and see how far it will fly!! Friends and family are welcome to try it out!! Catholic Schools Week is next week!! Here is a quick version of what is happening: Sunday-Wear school spirit wear to show school pride!; come to the Open House from 9:00 AM to noon; visit school for fun activities around the school Monday-Wear a sport jersey today; Penny Wars begin (send in your change to raise money for ASPIRO visits with our students) Tuesday-Wear red/white/blue or scout uniforms; Penny Wars continue; hear a few community speakers talk about their careers and their faith; flag raising ceremony at the beginning of the day (weather permitting) Wednesday-Wear pajamas to school (shoes, too; no slippers); Penny Wars continue; 1:05-1:50 DJ dance party Thursday-Wear BLUE everything today for the Color War; Penny Wars continue Friday-Wear dress-up clothes (no jeans) for Jesus; Penny war concludes; Living Rosary at 2:40 for all students in the church January’s Book Report Sharing (there have been a few changes): Monday, January 28-Hunter, AJ Tuesday, January 29-Ella, Marely, Alonzo, Deyra, Evelyn D, Michael, Audrey, Ben S, Evy Wednesday, January 30-Lilly, Addison, Ben F, Maddi Thursday, January 31-Rachel, Dekyren, Kayla, Maya, Beledine Students who will share as soon as their book reports are ready: Josh, Cameron, Maddy Ryah already shared her book report this week for January! The students brought home a permission slip for another field trip to Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve for Wednesday, February 27. We will be snowshoeing (if we still have snow) and learning how to survive the cold of winter. Our class and Mrs. Lamm’s class will be going together. Please return the permission slip and the lunch slip as soon as possible. Chaperones will be needed. I will let you know if you are chosen to come with us on that day. Queridas Familias del Salón 7, Me da pena compartir esta información. Mañana, 25 de enero, es el último día de Darian con nosotros. Su familia se mudó y él se trasladará a otra escuela el lunes. Cosas que hemos aprendido sobre esta semana: Religión:​ al comienzo de la semana, los estudiantes colorearon y escribieron notas de agradecimiento a los feligreses de St. Bernard como parte del inicio de la misa de la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas el fin de semana. Los estudiantes aprendieron más sobre las parábolas y vieron algunos videos cortos de parábola. Busque ilustraciones de parábolas en las paredes en la Casa Abierta el domingo. También vimos una película, miramos dos obras de arte y hablamos sobre el primer milagro de Jesús, Transformando el agua en vino en Caná. ¡Los estudiantes tienen grandes habilidades de observación al mirar la obra de arte! Matemáticas​-Los estudiantes casi han terminado con la unidad de geometría. Esta semana, las clases aprendieron sobre rotación, reflexión, traslación, congruencia y simetría. La próxima semana, las clases revisarán las ideas principales y tomarán una prueba de geometría. A continuación ... ¡FRACCIONES! Gramática:​ la clase de gramática de esta semana fue sobre verbos en tiempo futuro. ¡Los estudiantes aprendieron que al agregar la palabra "will" al frente de un verbo, será un verbo en tiempo futuro! Escritura:​ casi todos han terminado sus ensayos persuasivos. Tengo algunos estudiantes más con los que me gustaría sentarme para hacer más correcciones. Las historias de invierno están casi terminadas, también. He leído algunas historias creativas esta semana. Estudios sociales:​ nuestros temas principales de esta semana fueron Martin Luther King, Jr., que usa una cuadrícula de mapa para encontrar lugares en un mapa, mira un mapa real de papel de WI y la escala del mapa. ¡Los estudiantes también cantaron la canción de Midwest States una y otra vez! Mañana será nuestra primera misa a la que nuestros Compañeros de Lectura asistirán con nosotros. Practicamos el lunes sobre qué hacer durante la misa. Los estudiantes de cuarto grado están emocionados de ayudar a sus Compañeros de Lectura. La Casa Abierta de la Escuela St. Bernard es esta semana el domingo.
