PHILOSOPHY

MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide an environment that is loving, safe, and instructionally strong so that all students can grow mentally and socially for a successful academic future. PERRYTON ISD will take steps to assure that lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation in all educational programs.

ASBESTOS Perryton ISD is working hard to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning asbestos. A copy of the plan is available in the principal’s office as well as the school’s central administration office. If you have any questions about the plan or this federally mandated program, please contact the school administration office at 4355478.

ATTENDANCE Regular and punctual school attendance is essential for the student to make the most of his/her education. To receive credit for the school year, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the 174 instructional days. A student who attends fewer than 157 days cannot receive credit for the year unless the attendance committee finds that the absences are the result of extenuating circumstances. When a student is absent, a written note from the parent or guardian must always be sent to school within 2 school days. An absence automatically becomes unexcused if a note is not received. An excused absence is based on personal sickness, or death in the family, quarantine, weather, or road conditions making travel dangerous. Students not present in class at the tardy bell will be counted tardy for the day. Students should be in classroom before 7:50 a.m. ready to start learning. To be considered for Perfect Attendance prizes, students must not be checked out before 2:00 pm.

CAFETERIA SERVICES

Breakfast is served from 7:20-7:50 a.m. and lunch time varies by Kinder class. Please pay for your child’s meal daily, weekly, or monthly. The cafeteria staff will take meal money before school each day. CHARGING MEALS is for emergencies only. If a child has charges over $20.00, it will be necessary for the child to bring lunch from home, go home with a parent for lunch, or have an alternate meal. Breakfast will be FREE for all Kinder and PreK students this year. Lunch is $2.50 per student and reduced price is $0.40. Perryton ISD offers free and reduced-price breakfasts and lunches to eligible students. Application forms are available in the school office. Students who were eligible last year must fill out a NEW application within the first month of school. Questions concerning eligibility should be directed to Tracie Cessna at 435-5478, ext.230. Parents and family members are always welcome to join us for lunch. Visitor lunches are $4.50 and Breakfast is $3.00. Parents and students MAY NOT ask classmates to join them for lunch.

RETURNED CHECKS Personal checks will be accepted but a $15.00 fee will be charged for all returned checks.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASES/CONDITIONS Parents of a student with a communicable or contagious disease should phone the school nurse or principal so that other students who have been exposed to the disease can be alerted. Some of the most common of these diseases are: chicken pox, head lice, impetigo, pink eye, and ringworm.

COUNSELING The school counselor’s role is to help our children feel happy, healthy, and safe at school and home. Individual or group counseling and classroom guidance are provided for our students. Students may be referred for counseling by parents or guardians, family members, school personnel, or themselves.

DRESS AND GROOMING The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority. To be consistent with the PISD hair codes, boys hair will need to be cut above the shirt collar, above the eyes, and above the bottom of the ears. Extreme hair styles such as Mohawks, mullets, hair patches, shaved designs, and high or low ponytails on boys are not allowed. No extreme dye colors or hair paint will be allowed. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings. Teachers have asked that no temporary tattoos be on students bodies due to the distraction of the class. Teachers will have the students wash them off when they arrive at school. Judgment concerning compliance with grooming requirements and modes of dress not specifically mentioned in the Code of Conduct will be made by the school administrator. Students may wear shorts in August, September, October (**updated), week after spring break, and May. During the no shorts months the girls need to wear leggings/tights underneath short dresses/skirts or cheer outfits. Flip-flops and thong shoes are dangerous due to the physical activities and should not be worn. Shirts that expose the stomach or chest area are not acceptable and shoulder straps must be 2 fingers in width. Please refer to the PISD Discipline Management Plan and the Student Code of Conduct Handbook for additional information.

DISCIPLINE Please read and sign the PISD Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct Handbook when you register.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT Parents are asked each year to complete an emergency care consent form. PARENTS SHOULD KEEP EMERGENCY CARE INFORMATION UP-TO-DATE (name of doctor, emergency phone numbers, allergies to medications, etc.). Please contact the school office or the child’s teacher to update any information. (Form notes are given during enrollment and are available in the office.)

HEALTH SERVICES AND ILLNESSES When your child is ill, please contact the school to let them know he or she will not be attending school that day. It is important to remember that schools are required to exclude students with certain illnesses from school for a period of time as identified in state rules. For example, if your child has a fever of 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. In addition, students with diarrheal illnesses must stay home until they are diarrhea free without diarrheal-suppressing medications for at least 24 hours. A full list of conditions for which the school must exclude the student can be obtained from the school nurse.

Furthermore, students should have a COMPLETE change of clothes in their backpack in case of an accident.

MEDICATION Medication needs to be brought to the school nurse, in the original container, by parent or responsible adult. Please do not send medication with your child. If you are going to leave the medication at school please make sure you have enough left at home. State law says that no medication can be given without written consent from the parents. Consent paperwork will be provided when you bring the medication in to the nurse.

PESTICIDES The school occasionally applies pesticides. Information concerning these applications may be obtained from Allen Kemp (435-5478). A copy of the law can be obtained upon request in the Perryton Kinder office. Texas Pest Control Act 135b-6.

REPORT CARDS Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten receive progress reports every twelve weeks.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT The district encourages parental and student support in its efforts to address and prevent sexual harassment and sexual abuse in the public schools. Students and/or parents are encouraged to discuss their questions or concerns about the expectations in this area with a teacher, counselor, principal, or Dr. Timothy Little, who serves as the District Title IX coordinator for students.

CAMPUS EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE (CEIC) Texas State House Bill 2885 requires all school districts to have a district and campus site-based decision making committee. The Perryton Kinder Committee makes decisions concerning campus goals, budget, and evaluation of student performance as it relates to instructional decisions, the selection of staff, curriculum revisions, and instructional methods.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS The district provides special programs for gifted and talented students, bilingual students, migrant students, students with limited English proficiency, students with 5

dyslexia, and students with disabilities. The coordinator of each program can answer questions about eligibility requirements, as well as programs and services offered in the district or by other organizations. A student or parent with questions about these programs should contact the principal or Dr. Timothy Little, Director of Special Programs for PISD.

SPEECH/LANGUAGE INTERVENTION PROGRAM The Speech/Language program provides therapy for those children identified as having a communication disorder. Communication disorders include articulation, language, or fluency. Children are referred by their classroom teacher or parent to the Speech/Language Pathologist for evaluation. If they meet placement criteria, a child can only be placed in this program with the parent’s knowledge and consent.

STUDENT RECORDS A student’s school records are confidential and are protected from unauthorized inspection or use. A cumulative record is maintained for each student from the time the student enters the Perryton ISD until the student withdraws or graduates. This record moves with the student from school to school. Parents have access to the records of their child. By law, both parents, whether married, separated, or divorced, have access to the records of a student who is under 18 or a dependent for tax purposes. A parent whose rights have been legally terminated will be denied access to the records if the school is given a copy of the court order terminating these rights. Special Education records will be destroyed seven (7) years after cessation of services.

TITLE 1 – SCHOOL-WIDE PROGRAM “ESSA Every Student Succeeds Act”

Perryton Kinder receives funding from the Federal Government to make sure all Perryton Kinder students attain the Texas student performance standards. Perryton Kinder currently engages in reform strategies to increase the amount and quality of learning time.

TOYS Toys should not be brought to school. Exceptions to this rule occur only if a teacher should request such items in connection with a special unit of study.

VISITORS AT SCHOOL For the safety of our students, all visitors must first report to the school office for a visitor’s pass. Please bring your driver’s license or photo ID to check in. Students should be dropped off curbside in the mornings. If you chose to walk your child to the

building, please let them enter the building by themselves at the front door. For safety, parents should not walk students down the hallway after the first week of school.

CAR TAGS When picking up your child, please bring car tag that was given to you. Please have it displayed through the front windshield of your car, preferably on the passenger side visor. Please refer to the back of the tag for more information. For the safety of the students and parents, we prefer you to pick your child up in the car lane. Please pull your car up so that back door of your vehicle is in line with the colored cone. If you walk up to pick up your child, you will be asked to wait beside the portable building closests to the street, until the traffic in the car lane is gone. At this time your child will be released to you and then you will be able to cross the street.

DISABLED STUDENTS (SECTION 504 REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973) Perryton Independent School District strives to provide a free, appropriate, public education for all students. Pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, IDEA and the Texas State Board of Education Rules, PISD does not discriminate on the basis of handicap. Parents and students seeking services under these programs should contact the district’s designated contact person, Dr. Timothy Little, 504 Coordinator, Perryton ISD Administration Office, (806) 435-5478.

FIELD TRIPS Field trips are taken during the school year. Students are required to have a signed parental permission form in order to participate.

MOVING OR WITHDRAWING When a student is going to withdraw or move out of town, please notify the office as soon as possible so that the proper records can be processed. Official school records will be sent by mail to the student’s new school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical activity is essential to the child’s complete development. Physical fitness goes hand in hand with mental fitness. We need a signed written statement from the parent to excuse a pupil from physical exercises. Doctor’s note is needed for student missing more than 3 days of PE. If a student cannot participate in PE, they will not be allowed to participate in recess for that day. Shoes for PE need to be closed toed and have

support around the heel to ensure that the shoes will stay on their feet. If students do not have appropriate shoes, they will be excluded from the activities of the day.

PROTECTION OF STUDENT RIGHTS UNDER 20 U.S.C. 1232H Parents have the right to inspect all instructional materials, including teacher’s manuals, films, tapes, or other supplementary material, that will be used in connection with any survey, analysis, or evaluation as part of any program funded in whole or in part by the U.S. Department of Education. Please contact your child’s principal if you desire an appointment to review such materials.

Removal from the School Bus (Kinder Only, PreK does not qualify for bus service) A bus driver may refer a student to the principal’s office in order to maintain effective discipline on the bus. The principal must employ additional discipline management techniques, as appropriate, which can include restricting or revoking a student’s bus riding privileges. Discipline offenses will be handled in the following manner(s): First Offense Warning Second Offense 5 school days off the bus Third Offense 15 school days off the bus Fourth Offense 45 school days off the bus Fifth Offense – The student will be removed from the bus for the remainder of the school year.

As a parent of a student at Perryton Kinder, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child's classroom teachers, and requires you to receive this information in a timely manner. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers: Whether Texas Education Agency has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.

Whether Texas Education Agency has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.

·

The teacher's college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees. ·

Whether any teachers' aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child and their qualifications.

·

SERVICIOS DE LA CAFETERÍA El desayuno es de 7:20 a 7:50 de la mañana y la hora de lonche varía con cada clase. Por favor pague por el desayuno y almuerzo de su hijo diario, semanal, o mensualmente. Las trabajadoras estarán en la cafetería antes de cada día de clases para recibir su pago para la comida. Solamente en caso emergencias se permite FIAR. ENFERMEDADES Y CONDICIONES CONTAGIOSAS Padres de estudiantes con enfermedades/condiciones contagiosas deben comunicarse con la enfermera o el director para que los otros estudiantes que hayan sido expuestos a la enfermedad puedan ser alertados. Algunas de las enfermedades contagiosas más comunes son: viruela, impétigo, infección de los ojos o la tinea.

CONSEJERÍA El papel del consejero es ayudar a nuestros niños sentirse contentos, sanos, y seguros en la escuela y en casa. Sesiones individuales, en grupo, y en el salón son ofrecidas a

los estudiantes. Los estudiantes pueden ser referidos para los servicios de consejería por los padres, familiares, personal de la escuela, o por si mismo.

ROPA Y CUIDADO PERSONAL El Código de Vestir del distrito ha sido establecido para enseñar aseo e higiene, para instilar disciplina, prevenir interrupciones, evitar riesgos a la seguridad, y enseñar respeto a la autoridad. Para ser consistente con los códigos de PISD sobre el pelo, los varones deben traer el pelo cortado por encima del cuello de la camisa, por encima de los ojos, y por encima de la parte inferior de las orejas. Igual, los varones no deben traer colitas de pelo encima de la cabeza o junto al cuello. Peinados extremos como Mohawks, salmonetes, parches de pelo y diseños rapadas no son permitidos. No se permiten colores de tinte o pintura extravagante del pelo. Los barones no se les permite usar aretes. Las maestras han pedido que los estudiantes no vengan con tatuajes temporales porque distraen la clase. Tendrán que quitárselos en cuanto llegen a la escuela. Juicio y decisiones sobre la conformidad de los requisitos y modos de vestir, no específicamente mencionados en El Código de Conducta, serán tomadas por la administración escolar. Los estudiantes pueden usar shorts en agosto, septiembre, octubre, la semana después de quebrada de primavera, y mayo. Durante los meses que no deben usar shorts se les pide que las niñas usen leggings/medias por debajo de los vestidos cortos incluyendo los de porristas. Los huaraches son peligrosos para actividades físicas que se hacen durante el día, y no se deben usar. Camisas que exponen el estómago o el pecho no son aceptables y tirantes deben ser 2 dedos de ancho. Por favor mire el Plan de Manejo de Disciplina y el Código de Conducta de PISD para más información.

DISCIPLINA Por favor lea y firme el manual de el plan de manejo de disciplina y código de conducta para estudiantes de PISD cuando inscriba a su hijo.

TRATAMIENTO MÉDICO DE EMERGENCIA Cada año, necesitamos que los padres llenen una forma dando permiso para tratamiento en caso de una emergencia. LOS PADRES DEBEN MANTENER LA INFORMACIÓN DE CUIDADO DE EMERGENCIA AL CORRIENTE (nombre del doctor, números telefónicos en caso de una emergencia, alergias a medicamentos, etc.). Por favor comuníquese con la secretaría o la maestra de su hijo cuando tenga algún cambio de esta información. Se les da una forma durante la registracion pero tambien la puede conseguir en la oficina.

SERVICIOS DE SALUD Y ENFERMEDAD

Cuando su hijo esté enfermo, porfavor de comunicarse con la escuela para avisar que su hijo no estará en clase. De acuerdo con las reglas estatales, es importante recordar, que la escuela está requerida excluir a estudiantes con algunas enfermedades por un periodo de tiempo. Por ejemplo, si su hijo/a tiene calentura de 100 grados, él debe quedarse en casa por 24 después de haberle dado medicamento para la calentura. En adicional, estudiantes con enfermedades diarreicas deben estarse en casa hasta que se le quite la diarrea SIN haber tomado medicamentos por 24 horas. Pude localizar una lista completa de otras condiciones donde los estudiantes serán excluidos con la enfermera de la escuela.

MEDICAMENTOS Un padre o adulto responsable debe traer medicamento a la enfermera de la escuela, en la botella original. Por favor de no mandar medicamento con su hijo/a. Si usted va a dejar medicamento en la escuela por favor de asegurarse de dejar poco en casa. Leyes estatales dicen que no se les puede administrar medicamento sin el consentimiento por escrito del padre. Papelo dando este consentimiento se les dará cuando usted traiga la medicina.

PESTICIDES La escuela ocasionalmente aplica pesticidas. Información acerca de estas aplicaciones puede ser obtenida llamando a Allen Kemp (435-5478). Una copia de la ley puede ser obtenida en la oficina de Perryton Kinder. Acta del Control de Parásito de Tejas, 135b6.

BOLETAS Y REPORTES DE PROGRESO Estudiantes en pre-kinder y kínder recibirán un reporte de progreso cada doce semanas.

ACOSAMIENTO SEXUAL El distrito anima el apoyo de los padres y estudiantes, en sus esfuerzo de dirigir y prevenir molestias sexuales y abuso sexual en la escuela pública. Los estudiantes y los padres son animados a discutir sus preguntas o preocupaciones sobre las expectativas en esta área con las maestras, la consejera, el director, o Dr. Timothy Little, el coordinador de Título IX del Distrito para los estudiantes.

COMITÉ ESCOLAR PARA EL MEJORAMIENTO ESCOLAR La Ley de Texas 2885 requiere que cada distrito escolar tenga un comité para tomar decisiones que represente al distrito y a cada escuela. El Comité de Perryton Kinder 13

PROGRAMAS ESPECIALES El distrito tiene programas especiales para estudiantes dotados y talentosos, bilingües, migrantes, con destrezas de inglés limitadas, dislexia, y estudiantes con incapacidades. El coordinador de cada programa puede contestar preguntas que usted tenga sobre los requisitos para calificar y sobre programas e servicios que ofrece el distrito y otras organizaciones. Un estudiante o padre que tenga preguntas sobre estos programas debe comunicarse con el director o con Dr. Timothy Little, el director de programas especiales.

PROGRAMAS DE INTERVENCIÓN DE LENGUAJE El programa de lenguaje da terapia a los niños identificados con desórdenes de comunicación. Desórdenes de comunicación incluyen la articulación, lenguaje, y la fluidez. Los niños son referidos a la especialista del lenguaje por la maestra del niño o por el padre para ser evaluados. Si cumplen con las criterias de colocación, el niño solo podrá entrar al programa con el conocimiento y permiso del padre.

ARCHIVOS ESTUDIANTILES Los archivos estudiantiles son confidenciales y protegidos para evitar la inspección o uso sin autorización. Un expediente cumulativo es mantenido para cada estudiante desde que entra al distrito escolar de Perryton hasta que el estudiante se muda o se gradúa. Los expedientes se mueven con el estudiante de una escuela a otra. Los padres tienen acceso al expediente de su hijo. Por ley, los dos padres ya, casados, separados, o divorciados, tienen acceso al expediente de su niño que tenga menos de 18 años de edad o de un dependiente para uso de los impuestos. A un padre cuyos derechos hayan sido terminados legalmente, se le negará el acceso al expediente de un niño si una copia de la orden judicial que rescinde estos derechos es entregada a la escuela. Expedientes de educación especial serán destruidos siete (7) años después del término de los servicios.

TÍTULO I – PROGRAMA QUE ACAMPA TODA LA ESCUELA El Acta “Cada Estudiantes tendrá éxito” Perryton Kinder recibe fondos del gobierno federal para asegurarse que todos los estudiantes en Perryton Kinder logren las normas estudiantiles de Texas. JUGUETES Los niños no deben traer juguetes a la escuela. La excepción a esta regla es solo si la maestra pide algún juguete relacionado con una unidad que estén estudiando.

VISITANTES A LA ESCUELA Para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, cada visitante debe primero reportarse a la oficina de la escuela para recoger un pase de visitante. Favor de traer su licencia de conducir o identificación con foto para el registro. Deben abajar los niños en la banqueta cerca de la calle por las mañanas. Si opta llevar a su hijo hasta el edificio, por favor dejarlos entrar el edificio solos. Por razones de seguridad, los padres no deben caminar los estudiantes por el pasillo después de la primera semana de clases.

ETIQUETAS PARA SU COCHE Al recoger a su hijo por favor traiga la etiqueta con su nombre que se le dio a ustedes. Por favor, haz que se vea por enfrente del parabrisas de su coche, preferentemente en la visera del lado del pasajero. Por favor refiérase a la parte de atrás de la etiqueta para más información. Para la seguridad de los estudiantes y los padres, preferimos que recoja a su hijo en la línea de coches. Por favor de mover su carro hasta que la puerta de atrás esté en línea con los conos de color. Si usted camina a recoger a su hijo se le pedirá que espere al lado del edificio más cercano a la calle, hasta que el tráfico del carril de coches se ha ido. Después de que no haya coches, su hijo podrá irse con usted y entonces podrán cruzar la calle.

ESTUDIANTES INCAPACITADOS (SECCIÓN 504 DE LA ACTA DE REHABILITACIÓN DE 1973) El Distrito Escolar de Perryton se esfuerza para proveer una educación pública, gratis y apropiada para todos los estudiantes. VIAJES EDUCACIONALES Viajes educacionales serán tomados durante el año escolar. Se requiere que los estudiantes entreguen la forma de permiso firmada por el padre, antes de poder participar en estos viajes. Para poder participar los estudiantes deben tener permiso de los padres. Esta forma se le da durante la registración.

AL MUDARSE Cuando un estudiante va a mudarse de la ciudad, por favor notifique a la secretaria lo más pronto posible para que el expediente pueda ser procesado. Los expedientes escolares oficiales serán enviados por correo a la escuela nueva del estudiante.

EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA (PE) La actividad física es esencial para el desarrollo completo del niño. El bienestar físico va mano a mano con el bienestar mental. Necesitamos una nota escrita y firmada por el padre si su hijo no puede participar en los ejercicios físicos. Se requiere una nota del doctor para un estudiante que falte más de 3 días de PE. Si un estudiante no puede participar en educación física, no se les permitirá participar en el recreo ese día. Zapatos para educación física deben ser de punta cerrada y tener soporte alrededor del tobillo para asegurarse que el zapato se quede en sus pies. Si los estudiantes no tienen zapatos adecuados, serán excluidos de las actividades del dia.

PROTECCIÓN DE LOS DERECHOS ESTUDIANTILES BAJO 20 U.S.C. 1232h Los padres tienen el derecho de inspeccionar todo el material instructivo, incluyendo las guías del maestro, películas, cintas, y otros materiales suplementarios que sean utilizados en conexión con cualquier encuesta, análisis, o evaluación como parte de cualquier programa fundado en parte o totalmente por el Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos. La ley federal le permite pedir cierta información acerca de los maestros de su hijo y se requiere recibir esta información en el momento oportuno. En particular usted tiene el derecho de pedir la siguiente información acerca de cada uno de los maestros de su hijo: ·

Si la agencia de educación de Tejas ha autorizado o calificado al maestro para los grados y asignaturas que enseña. Si la agencia de educación de Tejas ha decidido que el maestro puede enseñar en un salón de clase sin licencia o calificado bajo las regulaciones estatales debido a circunstancias especiales. ·

Si el maestro tiene título universitario o tiene algún grado avanzado y, si es así, el tema de la titulación. ·

Si alguno de los ayudantes del maestro o paraprofesionales ofrecen servicios a su hijo/a y sus calificaciones. ·
