Dear Families, The students are aware that I will not be at school on Friday. There will be a substitute teacher. My husband and I are going to Madison to help our son in his apartment after a contractor damaged part of the apartment building earlier this week. I will be back to school on Monday. Learning this week: Religion-​ Students reviewed the 7 Sacraments by listing them and talking about each one. They also prayed the Stations of the Cross using a children’s version of the prayer. We walked around the church’s Stations of the Cross while we prayed the prayers. Did you know they Stations of the Cross in church are new? They look beautiful! Math-​ The students are finishing up the unit on measurement. They are working on story problems that use perimeter, area, and other measurements. After the measurements test, we will be moving on to fractions and decimals and how they work together. Reading-​The fourth graders went to preschool to read with our Reading Buddies again this week. The students have been reading nonfiction books and websites about the animal they are researching. I am learning so many interesting things about many animals!! The students are so excited to share amazing information about their animal! God’s creation is so amazing! Writing-​Along with reading the animal information, each student is taking notes on notecards. They should have 24-28 notecards finished by the end of this week. All 35-40 notecards are due next Thursday. After Easter, the student will start working on outlining and rough drafts of their research papers. Grammar- ​The students learned that there are grown-up words for the four types of sentences. They knew the “kid version” of these sentence and now they know the “adult version.” Can you name the four types of sentences? (statement/telling = declarative; question/asking = interrogative; command = imperative; exclamation = exclamatory) Social Studies-​Our last week of social studies was this week. The students learned about the duties and responsibilities of the national, state, and local government. They also talked about the branches of the state government and how it compares to the branches of the US government. Art-​The students were doing a neat activity today in art. Ask them about it. Science​-We will be switching for science next week. The students will be going to Ms. Etter’s room for Animal Classifications and Ecosystems. Since it is Severe Weather Awareness Week, the class and I discussed what to do during a tornado warning. They practiced how they should protect themselves if there is a tornado. On Friday, the students will be doing the annual tornado drill. Take time this weekend to talk together about what to do at home in case of a tornado warning. In the next few weeks, the students will be taking the Spring MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests. There are four tests in all. Please help your child to do their best testing by

making sure they get a good night’s sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast/lunch the day of the test. Our first test will be Wednesday, April 17, at the beginning of the day. It will be a math test. The other tests will be on April 23, 29, and 30. Try not to schedule appointments on those days. Scholastic book orders are due on Friday, April 12. There will be one more Scholastic book order in May. Our class code is P9T8Q. April book reports have begun already! Students have signed up for a day they will share their poem and jokes. If they are ready before the day they signed up for, they are welcome to share early. (3:45-7:00 PM) Cost is $25 per child. Event includes: tacos for supper, prayer service, playing “Shipwrecked” and building their own “ship” and seeing if it floats. Send the money in an envelope marked “Sailing with the Savior” and your child’s name. The health talks went well this week. The girls and the boys each heard a presentation about growing up and personal hygiene as they start puberty. Thank you to the parents who attended with their children. Thanks to Mrs. Guyette and Dr. Erickson Foster for presenting. The presenters told the children that they should always ask their parents any questions they have about growing up. Next week, the students will be learning what their Mass parts will be for our next Mass on April 26. If your child has a reading part, I would like them to practice reading aloud at home two or three times a day. We will be practicing in church a few times before our Mass, too. If you can make it to our Mass, we would love to see you there! Reminder: The Servers Boot Camp is on Saturday, April 13, in the morning. Contact Fr. Mark if your child is interested and has not signed up yet. I told the students that if they learn to be servers for Mass, they are helping serve Jesus and Mass goes so much faster! Queridas familias, Los estudiantes saben que no estaré en la escuela el viernes. Habrá un maestro sustituto. Mi esposo y yo vamos a Madison para ayudar a nuestro hijo en su apartamento después de que un contratista dañó parte del edificio a principios de esta semana. Regresaré a la escuela el lunes. Aprendiendo esta semana: Religión​ - Los estudiantes revisaron los 7 sacramentos enumerándolos y hablando de cada uno. También rezaron las Estaciones de la Cruz usando una versión infantil de la oración. Caminamos alrededor de las estaciones de la cruz de la iglesia mientras orábamos las oraciones. ¿Sabías que las estaciones de la cruz en la iglesia son nuevas? ¡Ellos lucen hermosos! Matemáticas​- Los estudiantes están terminando la unidad en la medida. Están trabajando en problemas de historia que usan el perímetro, el área y otras medidas. Después de la prueba de mediciones, pasaremos a las fracciones y los decimales y cómo funcionan juntos. Lectura​- los estudiantes de cuarto grado fueron al preescolar para leer con nuestros amigos de lectura nuevamente esta semana. Los estudiantes han estado leyendo libros de no ficción y sitios web sobre el animal que están investigando. ¡¡Estoy aprendiendo tantas cosas interesantes sobre muchos animales !! ¡Los estudiantes están tan emocionados de compartir información increíble sobre su animal! ¡La creación de Dios es tan increíble!

Escritura- Junto con la lectura de la información del animal, cada estudiante está tomando notas en las tarjetas. Deben tener 24-28 notas a finales de esta semana. Todas las 35-40 notas se entregarán el próximo jueves. Después de la Pascua, el estudiante comenzará a trabajar en el esbozo y borradores de sus trabajos de investigación. (declaración / cuenta = declarativa; pregunta / pregunta = interrogativa; comando = imperativo; exclamación = exclamativa) Estudios Sociales​-Nuestra última semana de estudios sociales fue esta semana. Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre los deberes y responsabilidades del gobierno nacional, estatal y local. También hablaron sobre las sucursales del gobierno del estado y cómo se compara con las sucursales del gobierno de los Estados Unidos. Arte​-Los estudiantes estaban haciendo una buena actividad hoy en el arte. Pregúntales sobre eso. Ciencia​- cambiaremos a la ciencia la próxima semana. Los estudiantes irán a la sala de la Sra. Etter para clasificaciones de animales y ecosistemas. Ya que es la Semana de Concientización sobre el Clima Severo, la clase y yo discutimos qué hacer durante una advertencia de tornado. Practicaron cómo deberían protegerse si hay un tornado. El viernes, los estudiantes estarán haciendo el simulacro anual de tornado. Tome tiempo este fin de semana para hablar juntos sobre qué hacer en casa en caso de una advertencia de tornado. En las próximas semanas, los estudiantes tomarán los exámenes Spring MAP (Measure of Academic Progress). Hay cuatro pruebas en total.
