Dear Room 7 Families, Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and Grandmas who read this weekly newsletter! My students and I are so blessed to have you in our lives! Thanks for being amazing women!! Here are our learning opportunities this week: Religion​-The class listened to the Creation Story from Genesis 1 and wrote down the important events for Days of Creation. We discussed how we could each appreciate and care for the natural resources of Creation. You should notice students taking shorter showers, using less water to brush their teeth, turning off lights, asking to plant some seeds, or taking care of pets. Math​-Fraction work continued this week. The students have been learning to find equivalent fractions, like 1/2=2/4=3/6=4/8. We also worked on simplifying fractions, like 10/100=1/10. Reading​-The students have been working on their graphic novels for their last book report of the school year. A few students have already finished their books and shared their book reports! Keep reading, Students! Writing​-Animal research papers are what our writing classes have been focusing on. The students should have their rough draft of their animal research papers finished by Friday. Many students have already started on typing their papers. I cannot wait to read all of the amazing information the students found on their animals! Grammar​-We started talking about and finding the subject and predicate of sentences. The students watched a few videos to describe subjects and predicates. Science​-The students have completed a food web this week. They should be learning about their final project with Ms. Etter on Friday or Monday. There is a quiz on vocabulary on Monday. Reminder: Friday, May 10, is Muffins with Mom from 8:00-8:30. Moms, if you can make it, that would be great. Don’t worry if you cannot make it. We know that many of you have to work or have other commitments in the morning. You will be in our thoughts wherever you are! Book Report Sharing Schedule: Monday, May 20- no one signed up for Monday Tuesday, May 21- AJ, Ben S, Lilly Wednesday, May 22- Hunter, Addison, Maddy, Dekyren, Evelyn, Maddi, Michael Thursday, May 23- Rachel, Beledine, Josh, Ben F, Marely Students who will share when they are done with their book- Cameron, Maya, Ryah, Evy, Deyra, Ella Students who have already shared their book report-Alonzo, Kayla, Audrey HOMEWORK HUDDLE NEWS- ​Next week (May 14-16) will be the last week for Homework Huddle before school and after school for grades 3, 4, and 5.​ Middle School Homework Huddle will continue for those of you who have 6th-8th grade students in Homework Huddle.

We will still have a Homework Huddle for lunch recesses for those students who need to complete late assignments. Step-Up Day went well on Tuesday. The students came back from 5th grade excited for next year. They thought Ms. Hehir and Mrs. Herman were fun! They thought 5th grade was going to be wonderful! The Book Fair will be next week in the school library. We will be visiting the Book Fair on Tuesday during our normal library time. If you would like your child to purchase a book during our normal library time, please send some money on Tuesday. The students may also purchase books during recess times on Tuesday through Thursday. Scholastic book orders for my classroom order will be due on May 17. My classroom code is P9T8Q. Please check around your house and cars for any school library books or Room 7 classroom library books. It is time to start returning them to school. My name is stamped on the first page of the books that belong in our classroom library. Thanks! Our class has met two of our MAP test goals that were set for us after the Fall testing period. Today, we voted on our special prize for our successes, which will be an extra 15 minute recess in the next week! Thanks for thinking of me and the other teachers this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. The cards, gifts, treats, and lunch in the teachers’ lounge were so kind. I feel so appreciated! Queridas Familias del Salón 7, ¡Feliz día de las madres a todas las mamás y abuelas que leen este boletín semanal! ¡Mis estudiantes y yo estamos muy bendecidos de tenerte en nuestras vidas! Gracias por ser mujeres increíbles !! Aquí están nuestras oportunidades de aprendizaje esta semana: Religión:​ la clase escuchó la Historia de la Creación de Génesis 1 y anotó los eventos importantes para los Días de la Creación. Discutimos cómo podríamos apreciar y cuidar cada uno de los recursos naturales de la Creación. Debes notar que los estudiantes toman duchas más cortas, usan menos agua para lavarse los dientes, apagan las luces, piden que planten algunas semillas o cuidan a las mascotas. Matemáticas​: El trabajo de matemáticas y fracciones continuó esta semana. Los estudiantes han estado aprendiendo a encontrar fracciones equivalentes, como 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8. También trabajamos en la simplificación de fracciones, como 10/100 = 1/10. Lectura:​ los estudiantes han estado trabajando en sus novelas gráficas para su último informe de libro del año escolar. ¡Algunos estudiantes ya han terminado sus libros y han compartido sus informes de libros! ¡Sigan leyendo, estudiantes! Escritura: ​Los trabajos de investigación sobre escritura y animales son en lo que se han centrado nuestras clases de escritura.
