Dear Room 7 Families, Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to our Mass last week. My mom even came!! I told the students that sometimes their parents come to Mass with us and sometimes my mom can come, too! Here is what we have been working on this week: Religion-​I brought to school Resurrection Eggs for us to use to discuss Jesus’ Passion and Resurrection. 12 students got to open the plastic eggs and discover an item inside that has to do with Jesus’ Passion and Resurrection. The class had to decide how that item taught us something about Jesus. Some of the items inside the eggs were 3 nails, a whip, a donkey, a crown of thorns, and silver coins. As a group, we figured out what each item meant! The students continued learning about taking care of God’s creation this week. We talked about special things we enjoyed and what would happen if 1. that thing broke and 2. If someone we loved broke it. This led to a discussion of how we take care of God’s creation. God loves this world and all who are living here. How does God feel if people do not take care of it? Building an oil spill was exciting and educational. Some students got to “save” some of God’s creation from the oil spill. EWWW! Math​-We worked on finding equivalent fractions. Comparing fractions and mixed numbers by using number lines and math were also part of our classes this week. Students learned “what you do to the bottom, you do to the top.” Do you remember that from your math classes? Reading​-A few students shared their book reports this week. On Tuesday, the class learned about their last genre of the school year (graphic novel) and the book report ideas that they can choose from for their book report the week of May 20-23. I will attach the May book report ideas at the end of the email. Writing​-Now that the animal research note cards have been sorted, we have moved on to writing an outline and including the main ideas and details we will write about in our animal research rough drafts. The students really got the hang of outlining. At the end of this week and all of next week, the class will be working on their rough drafts of their research paper. Science​- Please ask your child what Ms. Etter’s science class topics were this week. We will be doing this science unit until May 15. After that, we will finish the school year studying social studies topics. MAP testing is complete in our classroom. Overall, the students did quite well. Their final results will come home in their report cards on June 6. I gave each student their RIT score goal that they were trying to reach before they took the test. I shared with them their score from last Fall so they could see if they improved (many did!). The last Scholastic Book Order flyers for this school year came home on Wednesday. If your child has not already used their birthday coupon for a FREE $4 or less book from me, this is the last month to pick out a book. If that coupon is lost, don’t worry, I have been keeping track of

who has already received their birthday book and anyone who has not already chosen a book will be able to pick one this month. Friday, May 3, is wear yellow day (yellow top and uniform bottom) to sting out cancer! Students may wear yellow shirts all day, even for Mass. Please return the blue mid-trimester report cover sheet with your signature as soon as you can. Thanks! Questions for the week: How did your class make an oil spill in religion class? Queridas Familias del Salón 7, Gracias a todos los padres y abuelos que asistieron a nuestra misa la semana pasada. Mi mamá incluso vino !! Les dije a los estudiantes que a veces sus padres vienen a misa con nosotros y, a veces, ¡mi mamá también puede venir! Aquí es en lo que hemos estado trabajando esta semana: Religión​: llevé a la escuela huevos de resurrección para que los usáramos para hablar de la pasión y resurrección de Jesús. 12 estudiantes abrieron los huevos de plástico y descubrieron un artículo dentro que tiene que ver con la Pasión y la Resurrección de Jesús. La clase tuvo que decidir cómo ese elemento nos enseñó algo acerca de Jesús. Algunos de los artículos dentro de los huevos eran 3 clavos, un látigo, un burro, una corona de espinas y monedas de plata. Como grupo, ¡descubrimos lo que significaba cada elemento! Los estudiantes

continuaron aprendiendo sobre cómo cuidar la creación de Dios esta semana. Hablamos sobre cosas especiales que disfrutamos y qué sucedería si 1. esa cosa se rompiera y 2. si alguien a quien amamos la rompiera. Esto llevó a una discusión de cómo cuidamos la creación de Dios. Dios ama a este mundo ya todos los que viven aquí. ¿Cómo se siente Dios si las personas no lo cuidan? Construir un derrame de petróleo fue emocionante y educativo. Algunos estudiantes tuvieron que "salvar" algo de la creación de Dios del derrame de petróleo. EWWW! Matemáticas​:Trabajamos en encontrar fracciones equivalentes. La comparación de fracciones y números mixtos mediante el uso de líneas numéricas y matemáticas también formó parte de nuestras clases esta semana. Los estudiantes aprendieron "lo que haces al final, lo haces a la cima". ¿Recuerdas eso de tus clases de matemáticas? Lectura:​ algunos estudiantes compartieron sus informes de libros esta semana. El martes, la clase aprendió sobre su último género del año escolar (novela gráfica) y el libro informa sobre ideas que pueden elegir para el informe de su libro la semana del 20 al 23 de mayo. Adjuntaré las ideas del informe del libro de mayo al final del correo electrónico. Escribiendo:​ ahora que las notas de investigación de animales se han ordenado, pasamos a escribir un resumen e incluimos las ideas principales y detalles sobre los cuales escribiremos en nuestros borradores de investigación animal. Los estudiantes realmente aprendieron a dibujar. Al final de esta semana y toda la próxima semana, la clase estará trabajando en sus borradores de su trabajo de investigación. Ciencia:​ pregunte a su hijo cuáles fueron los temas de la clase de ciencias de la Sra. Etter esta semana. Haremos esta unidad de ciencias hasta el 15 de mayo. Después de eso, terminaremos el año escolar estudiando temas de estudios sociales. Las pruebas de MAP están completas en nuestro salón de clases. En general, los estudiantes lo hicieron bastante bien. Sus resultados finales llegarán a casa en sus boletas de calificaciones el 6 de junio. Le di a cada estudiante su objetivo de puntuación RIT que estaban tratando de alcanzar antes de tomar el examen. Compartí con ellos su puntuación del otoño anterior para que pudieran ver si mejoraron (¡muchos lo hicieron!). Los últimos folletos de la Orden del Libro Escolástico para este año escolar llegaron a casa el miércoles. Si su hijo aún no ha usado su cupón de cumpleaños para un libro GRATUITO de $ 4 o menos, este es el último mes para elegir un libro. Si ese cupón se pierde, no se preocupe, he estado haciendo un seguimiento de quién ya recibió su libro de cumpleaños y cualquiera que aún no haya elegido un libro podrá elegir uno este mes. ¡El viernes 3 de mayo es día de uso amarillo (parte superior amarilla e inferior uniforme) para combatir el cáncer!
