Dear Families, What a great Monday we started out with!! Trucker Buddy Jim and Snookie came to visit us!! The students were so excited. We “toured” the semi cab and the empty 53’ trailer. The students discovered that it takes 15 students laying down to equal the length of the truck and trailer. Trucker Buddy Jim’s mom passed away last year. In her honor, he brought a huge bouquet of flowers for the students to divide up and give to their moms. Each student also brought home a $7 gift card to Menards or Fleet Farm. That is meant to be used for a gift for dad or grandpa for Father’s Day. We will be sending Jim and Snookie thank you letters soon. Things we learned this week: Religion-We spend some of our time preparing for a Rosary Walk, which will be tomorrow afternoon. The students have chosen which activity they wanted to prepare for the Rosary Walk. The choices were write a short script about the Resurrection, make a picture book about the Resurrection, color the words of two banners for our wall, or build the empty tomb after the Resurrections. The teamwork was amazing for this activity! Math-We reviewed fraction topics and took the test. We started learning how fractions and decimals are related to each other. We will be covering more about decimals for the next week or two. Reading-Students have been sharing book reports when they are ready. When classwork is finished, the students are reading books! Our Reading Buddies and we met on Wednesday to read together. Writing-The students worked on their animal research papers this week by typing them up. Some students peer-edited their papers. Other students did not because they were still typing. The class learned about Concrete poems and wrote our own concrete poems. Grammar-The topics have been about subjects and predicates of sentences. Today, we looked at simple subjects and simple predicates in sentences. Science-The last unit of study was finished on Tuesday. The class shared their final projects in Ms. Etter’s class. The projects that I saw being brought into school looked really great! Social Studies-We started with social studies on Wednesday. The class is memorizing four US states for a test on Friday. They will learn the names of 10-12 more states on Friday for early next week. We also discovered many symbols of Wisconsin. The class was surprised that the state drink was milk, and that we have a state dance, the polka. We may be trying to polka next week! Thank you to the students and families who purchased books from the Book Fair to put in Room 7’s classroom library! I cannot wait to read them all this summer! Speaking of library books, please check around your house and car for any school or classroom library books. They need to be coming back to school by early next week. If you find any
school or classroom books over summer, please bring them back to school in August. Thank you! The students brought home two forms that need to be returned as soon as possible. One form is a green lunch form for Carnival Day, June 3. In order to provide enough food for everyone, the lunchroom ladies need to know by tomorrow so they can order the correct amount of food. The other form is a pink permission slip for Tues., June 4th to Preble Park. If any of you are Virtus trained and want to come along to the park and provide an outside activity for Preble Park for the third and fourth graders, let me know. We are also looking for bottles of water and popsicles for the students. Today, May 16, was the last day for grades 3-5’s Homework Huddle before and after school. We will still do Homework Huddle at lunch time for students who did not finish school work. The students brought home their Unit 7 math tests today. Please sign and return the test by tomorrow. A few students should be making corrections (75% or less for a grade) to their tests and get those back tomorrow or Monday. All corrections to any assignments must be fixed and returned by next week Friday, May 24. I am starting to get report card grades updated over Memorial Day weekend. I cannot wait until the day before report cards are printed to finish grades. Thank you for understanding. The students are almost finished with their animal research paper. They typed them last week and two days this week. There are a few students who still need to complete their typing. I am fine with parents and older siblings helping with typing. If you have time to help proofread your child’s research paper this weekend, the students would appreciate it. I would, too! The final copy is due on Monday, May 20. May book reports are starting next week. Book Report Sharing Schedule: Monday, May 20- no one signed up for Monday Tuesday, May 21- AJ, Ben S, Lilly Wednesday, May 22- Hunter, Addison, Maddy, Dekyren, Evelyn, Maddi, Michael Thursday, May 23- Beledine, Josh, Ben F, Marely Students who will share when they are done with their book- Maya, Deyra, Ella Students who have already shared their book report-Alonzo, Kayla, Audrey, Rachel, Cameron, Evy, and Ryah The whole school has earned a PBIS reward for filling the buckets with Paw Prides near the cafeteria! On Tuesday, May 21, the students will be having a game day. Our class is getting matched with an older class and we will play games together for about one hour. If you will allow your child to bring a favorite board or card game from home for Tuesday’s PBIS reward day, that would be great. The games will be coming home again Tuesday night. I have games
in my classroom, if someone forgets to bring one from home. The student will be learning about the PBIS reward day after Mass tomorrow. Queridas familias, ¡Qué gran lunes empezamos con !! ¡El camionero Buddy Jim y Snookie vinieron a visitarnos! Los estudiantes estaban tan emocionados. Recorrimos la semi cabina y el remolque vacío de 53 ’. Los estudiantes descubrieron que se necesitan 15 estudiantes para igualar la longitud del camión y el remolque. La madre del camionero Buddy Jim falleció el año pasado. En su honor, él trajo un enorme ramo de flores para que los estudiantes se dividieran y dieran a sus madres. Hoy, vimos temas simples y predicados simples en oraciones. Ciencia: La última unidad de estudio se terminó el martes. La clase compartió sus proyectos finales en la clase de la Sra. Etter. ¡Los proyectos que vi que trajeron a la escuela se vieron realmente geniales! Estudios Sociales: Comenzamos con estudios sociales el miércoles. Los estudiantes trajeron a casa dos formularios que deben ser devueltos lo antes posible. Una forma es una forma de almuerzo verde para el Día de Carnaval, el 3 de junio. Con el fin de proporcionar suficiente comida para todos, las damas del comedor necesitan saber mañana para poder ordenar la cantidad correcta de comida. La otra forma es un formulario de permiso rosa para el martes 4 de junio hasta Preble Park.
