Desde el Escritorio de P. Pat

This Sunday we are celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa, the Queen of Poland. Naturally our thoughts and prayers are with our Polish community in a very special way, as we pray for them and for Poland. Also, I want to take this chance to thank our Polish community. The church of Sacred Heart did not just change in the merger, it closed. This was a very painful experience. Still, our Polish community, with all the strength and courage typical of that Polish spirit which won’t allow itself to be beaten down, or to give up, has integrated itself in our new parish with a spirit of enthusiasm, faith and generosity. All of us are richer for the Faith and Culture they share with us. I am very proud and grateful for the “witness to hope” they give to me and to all the Parish of St. John Bosco! In April, 1996 I had the joy and privilege of visiting with some of our Salesians in Poland. It was a beautiful experience, rich in memories for me. However, perhaps the visit that is most deeply impressed in my heart and my mind is my visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Jasna Gora, where I had the special grace of celebrating holy mass below her beautiful image. In fact, I still get chills at the thought of the trumpets blowing as the screen covering the holy image is slowly lifted for all to see her face! Holding Jesus, she reminds us that she is the Mother of us all and she takes care of us. It is no wonder Pope St. John Paul II loved that Shrine and had her image in his private chapel in Rome! She is the Mother who protects and holds together a nation! I want to share with you a reflection this feast brings to my mind and is significant for us as our parish continues to grow in its new life. The history of Poland is history marked by persecution and suffering. Poland, which at one time was the largest state in Europe and some say, the most powerful, actually disappeared from the map of Europe! The country no longer existed; it was divided among Russia, Prussia and Austria. It reappeared after WWI only to suffer again by German occupation in WWII where in Auschwitz it became the center of the holocaust and of hate and man’s inhumanity to man. Again, after WWII, Poland was swallowed up the Communist empire and the crown was taken from the head of the eagle on its flag. Our Polish brothers and sisters have much to tell us and to teach us, and one of the most important things they tell and teach us is that boundaries, frontiers, walls, places don’t matter. Poland as a country, was erased from the maps and its people suppressed over and over again, but Poland: its heart, its soul, its spirit could never be conquered. Poland always remained alive because of its Catholic faith. The Queen of Czestochowa guarded, protected and gave life to her people. Their faith in Jesus Christ kept them alive and together regardless of the obstacles. Under the incredible suppression of Communism, in June 1979 more than two million Poles could stand in Red Square in Warsaw and shout out, in the presence of John Paul II, We Want God! Our Parish of St. John Bosco is not bound to a building or a particular culture or language, yet, we are united —nothing can crush our spirit because, like the Polish people who form part of our community, we are a community of faith rooted in Jesus Christ under the protection of Mary, our Mother! We come together because: We Want God! And, now as we grow in our new parish identity, we want to proclaim to all, Jesus is Lord and we are one in Him! God bless you!

Este domingo celebramos la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Czestochowa, la Reina de Polonia. Naturalmente, nuestros pensamientos y oraciones con nuestra comunidad polaca están de una manera muy especial, rezemos por ellos y por Polonia. También , quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a nuestra comunidad polaca. La Iglesia de Sagrado Corazón no solo cambió en la unión, si no que se cerró. Esta fue una experiencia muy dolorosa. Aún así, nuestra comunidad polaca, con toda la fuerza y el valor típico de ese espíritu polaco que no se deja vencer, ni rendir, se ha integrado a nuestra nueva parroquia con un espíritu de entusiasmo, fe y generosidad. Todos somos más ricos por la cultura y la fe que comparten con nosotros. Estoy muy orgulloso y agradecido por el "testimonio de esperanza" que ellos brindan a mí y a toda la Parroquia de San Juan Bosco! En abril de 1996 tuve la alegría y el privilegio de visitar a algunos de nuestros Salesianos en Polonia. Fue una hermosa experiencia, rica en recuerdos para mí. Sin embargo, tal vez la visita que más impacto mi corazón y mente fue mi visita al Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Czestochowa en Jasna Gora, donde tuve la gracia especial de celebrar la Santa Misa debajo de su hermosa imagen. De hecho, todavía me da escalofríos al pensar en el sonar de las trompetas mientras que la cortina que cubría la imagen se levantaba lentamente para que todos pudieran ver su rostro! Sosteniendo a Jesús, ella nos recuerda, que ella es la Madre de todos nosotros y nos cuida. Quiero compartir con ustedes una reflexión que esta fiesta trae a mi mente y que es significativo para nosotros ya que nuestra parroquia continúa creciendo en su nueva vida. La historia de Polonia es una historia marcada por la persecución y el sufrimiento. Polonia, que en algún momento fue el estado más grande de Europa y, según algunos, el más poderoso, en realidad desapareció del mapa de Europa! El país ya no existía, estaba dividido entre Rusia, Prusia y Austria. Reapareció después de la Primera Guerra Mundial solo para sufrir nuevamente por la ocupación alemana en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, donde en Auschwitz se convirtió en el centro del holocausto y del odio y la inhumanidad al hombre. Nuevamente, después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Polonia fue absorbida por el imperio comunista y la corona fue tomada de la cabeza del águila en su bandera. Nuestros hermanos y hermanas polacos tienen mucho que decirnos y enseñarnos, y una de las cosas más importantes que nos dicen y nos enseñan es que los límites, las fronteras, las paredes, los lugares no importan. Polonia como país, fue borrada de los mapas y su gente fue reprimida una y otra vez, pero Polonia: su corazón, su alma, su espíritu nunca pudieron ser conquistados. Polonia siempre se mantiene viva debido a su fe Católica. La Reina de Czestochowa guardó, protegió y dio vida a su gente. Su fe en Jesucristo los mantuvo vivos y juntos sin importar los obstáculos. Bajo la increíble represión del comunismo, en junio de 1979 más de dos millones de polacos pudieron pararse en la Plaza Roja de Varsovia y gritar, en presencia de Juan Pablo II: ¡Queremos a Dios! Nuestra Parroquia de San Juan Bosco no está atada a un edificio o una cultura o idioma en particular, sin embargo, estamos unidos, y nada puede aplastar nuestro espíritu porque, como los polacos que forman parte de nuestra comunidad, somos una comunidad de fe enraizada en Jesucristo bajo la protección de María, nuestra Madre! Nos unimos porque: ¡Queremos a Dios! Y, ahora a medida que vamos creciendo en nuestra nueva identidad parroquial, queremos proclamar a todos que, Jesús es el Señor y somos uno en Él! ¡Dios te bendiga!

Nesse domingo nós estamos celebrando a festa de Nossa Senhora de Czestochowa, a Padroeira da Polônia. Naturalmente os nossos pensamentos o orações se voltam especialmente para a comunidade polonesa. Também eu quero ter uma oportunidade para falar com os poloneses de nossa paroquia. A paroquia do Sagrado Coração de Jesus foi fechada, provocando uma experiencia muito dolorida. Contudo os poloneses com muita fé e coragem não se consideraram derrotados e integraram na nova paroquia com muito entusiasmo e generosidade. Todos nos nos enriquecemos com a cultura e espirito de fé que os poloneses partilham conosco. Nós agradecemos o belo testemunho dos poloneses em nossa paroquia. Em abril de 1996 eu tive o privilegio de visitar os salesianos da Polônia. Essa foi uma ótima experiencia que não me esqueço. O que mais me marcou visitando a Polônia foi o Santuário de nossa Senhora de Czestochowa em Jasna Gora, onde pude celebrar uma missa abaixo da Imagem. Eu ainda sinto um calafrio quando relembro o toque da trombeta e a cortina descobrindo lentamente o rosto de nossa Senhora. Segurando Jesus, ela mostra que é mãe de todos nos. Não e atoa que São Joao Paulo II amava aquele Santuário e tinha a imagem dela na sua capela em Roma. Ela e a mãe e protetora das nações. Quero refletir com vocês que sobre essa festa e sua contribuição para a vida e crescimento de nossa paroquia. A história da Polônia foi muito marcada por perseguições e sofrimentos. A Polônia já foi o maior e mais poderoso país da Europa, agora está quase fora do mapa, porque esse país foi dividido entre a Rússia, Prússia e Áustria. Ele reapareceu após a primeira guerra mundial e foi massacrado pela Alemanha na segunda guerra mundial, onde Auschwitz se transformou num centro de holocausto. E mais, a Polônia foi tomada pelos comunistas que tiraram a coroa da cabeça da águia na bandeira do país. O poloneses ainda tem muita história para contar e uma das grandes lições que nos ensinam e que não desistem por nada. A Polônia como pais, foi apagada do mapa, mas nunca no coração e na alma das pessoas. A Polônia resistiu todas as provações por causa da Fé dos católicos. Nossa Senhora de Czestochowa a guardou, protegeu e deu vida ao seu povo. Foi por causa da fé em Jesus e a proteção de Maria que os poloneses superaram todos os obstáculos. Sob uma forte pressão do comunismo, em junho de 1979 mais de dois milhões de pessoas se reuniram na praça vermelha em Varsóvia e gritaram na presença do papa São Joao Paulo II, nós queremos Deus! Na nossa paroquia nós não queremos privilegiar uma cultura ou língua porque estamos nos juntos. Nada vai nos desanimar, pois temos o belo exemplo de perseverança da comunidade polonesa que esmera pela fé em Jesus e na proteção de Maria, nossa mãe. Nos seguimos juntos porque nos queremos Deus! Na medida que seguimos, queremos proclamar a todos que Jesus e Nosso Senhor e nos estamos unidos Nele. Deus te abençoe!

W te niedziele obchodzimy uroczystość Matki Boskiej Czestchowskiej. Królowa Polski --- Czarna Madonna. Nasze myśli i modlitwy są z naszymi polskimi parafianami. Modlimy sie za nich i za Polskę. Korzystając z okazji pragnę podziękować polskiej grupie. Zmiany w parafii nie były dla nich łatwe. Utracili swój kościół i to było dla nich bardzo bolesne przeżycie. Jednak ich siła, zdeterminowanie i odwaga typowe dla tego narodu sprawiły,ze nie pozwolili o sobie zapomnieć i nigdy nie przestali walczyć o swoje miejsce. Zaadaptowali sie w nowej parafii z entuzjazmem ogromna wiara i chojnoscia. Każdy z nas jest bogatszy w kulturę i wiarę jaka z nami dziela. W kwietniu, 1996 roku wraz z grupa Braci Salezjanów miałem okazje odwiedzić Polskę. Było to wspaniałe doświadczenie bogate w niezapomniane wspomnienia. Jednak najbardziej utkwiła mi w pamięci wizyta w Częstochowie na Jasnej Gorze. Miałem tam przywilej odprawiania mszy świętej. Do dziś pamietam przejmujące granie towarzyszące zasłonięciu obrazu Matki Boskiej Czestochwskiej. Trzymając Jezusa przypomina ona nam, ze jest tez matka wszystkich ludzi i otacza nas swoją opieka. Nic dziwnego, ze Jan Paweł II zawierzył sie jej opiece i w swojej kaplicy watykańskiej miał kopie wizerunku. Matka , ktora ochrania i ma w opiece cały polski naród. Historia Polski jest bardzo bolesna i krwawa. Żaden naród nie ucierpiał przez wieki tyle co Polacy. Kiedyś nasze granice sięgały od Bałtyku po Morze Czarne i stanowiliśmy ogromna potegę w Europie . Niestety, błędy polityczne rządzących, wolne elekcje i samowola szlachty doprowadziły do upadku państwa czego konsekwencja były trzy rozbiory . Na 123 lata Polska zniknęła z map świata. Po upadku pierwszej Wojny Światowej odzyskaliśmy niepodległość. Długo sie nią nie nacieszyliśmy ponieważ po zakończeniu II Wojny Światowej w Jałcie dokonano 4 rozboru naszego kraju. Stalin , Churchil i Roosevelt podzielili nas na nowo. Nasza ogromna wiara i patriotyzm spowodowały , ze w tak trudnych sytuacjach zawsze laczylismy sie wspólnie by nasza ojczyzna była naprawdę wolna. To dzięki Solidarności , ogólnokrajowym strajkom , nieustającej opiece Pani Jasnogórskiej , żarliwym modlitwom Jana Pawla II i zaangażowaniu prezydenta USA Reagana ,wyzwoliliśmy sie z niewoli radzieckiej. W czerwcu 1979 roku na spotkaniu z Papieżem w Warszawie 2 miliony Polaków skandowały: my chcemy Boga !! ". Wiara i odwaga narodu polskiego jest dla nas przykładem i wzorem do naśladowania.
