From the Desk of Fr. Pat This weekend our parish family is celebrating the feast of Nuestro Señor de los Milagros de Nazarena (Our Lord of the Miracles of Nazareth). It is a celebration especially dear to our Peruvian community and has spread throughout the world wherever Peruvians are found! It is one of the biggest processions in the world! The image is that of a “Black Christ” shown enduring the pains and sufferings of the crucifixion . The story is that the picture was painted by a black slave belonging to a colony of African slaves that lived outside of Lima in a region called Pachacamilla during the 17th century. The artist had no art education but created this beautiful image by a “divine inspiration of faith” painting it on the outside wall of a city building. The mural of Christ became famous, when after an horrendous earthquake that leveled the city of Lima, somehow the wall with the picture remained standing and untouched in the middle of the rubble. The painting has endured through many a violent earthquake since then! It is a sign to the people that Jesus is with them. Through the centuries, many people have regularly gone to visit the image, to pray and to petition the crucified Jesus for a miracle. Soon, many miracles were attributed to the image by those who visited. Many swear that the miracles that happened in their lives were the results of a visit to El Señor de los Milagros! It is for this reason that the image became known as “The Lord of Miracles” and He is the patron saint of Peru. The feast is celebrated every October throughout the world and is identified with the color purple--symbol of prayer and penance. This tells us a little about the “externals ” of the feast, but there is a deep spiritual dimension to the celebration. We identify the color purple with Lent. Behind this feast is a time of deep preparation of prayer, fasting and penance. In our parish we are blessed with a group La Hermandad de Nuestro Señor de los Milagros- (The Brotherhood)! We often see them dressed in their purple garb helping out and supporting whenever and wherever they can—a group we can compare to the Knights of Columbus in the U.S. During these days they led the parish in a solemn Novena in preparation for the feast encouraging prayer, personal penance, confession and communion. The procession itself is long and walked slowly in a spirit of prayer and penance– taking some 26 persons to carry the image. They dance while carrying the Christ through the streets. It is a powerful and grace filled scene. This morning, I want to invite all of us in the parish to come to the Don Bosco Center this afternoon to at least take part in some of the procession. Today’s feast marks a time of faith and grace for all in our parish! Come! Come to ask the Lord of Miracles for the grace and miracle you need! God bless you!

Prosty artysta bez żadnej edukacji stworzył ten obraz w drodze boskiego natchnienia i wykonał go na zewnętrznej ścianie budynku w Stolicy Peru , Limie. Scienny malunek stał się słynny po wielkim trzęsieniu ziemi , jakie nawiedziło Limę , bo ściana z wizerunkiem przetrwała choć wokół były ruiny i zgliszcza. Ściana z malunkiem przeżyła niejedno jeszcze trzęsienie ziemi i zawsze ocalała w nienaruszonym stanie. Wielu ludzi wyprosilo łaski i uzdrowienia . Święto to obchodzone jest w październiku i jest kojarzone z fioletem , oznaczającym modlitwę i pokutę . Chciałbym zaprosić wszystkich aby wzięli udział w tej procesji. Z Bogiem
