Mental Health Awareness Ministry This brand new ministry to Santiago will be coordinated by Laurie Alsted. ♦ Do you love someone with a mental illness? The purpose of the ministry is to be a supportive and rich resource for individuals and families affected by mental illnesses. Together with the Church, the Diocese of Orange, community resources, and our own congregation, we endeavor to break the stigma of shame and isolation associated with the phrase “mental illness” in order to bring hope and healing to our fellow parishioners and community. ♦ Did you know one in four people have a mental illness? Your willingness, love, compassion and experience are needed to spread the message of hope and healing to those affected by mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, PTSD, OCD, and others. Together we can help our parish family and community. Laurie can be reached at [email protected], or by phone at 949-424-3686.

Fifth Sunday of Easter JMJ 20 April, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

April 24, 2016 gift of self and talents. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Our Lord Jesus in the Gospel gives Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval us a very simple commandment: “Love one another.” This is our marching orders – our parish communities should be seedbeds where true concern for one another should be very visible in the way we relate with each other. We are grateful that there was no repeat of the graffiti that was written on the door of the Parish Hall. We reported it to the police and erased it at the first opportunity. This should make us become more engaged in looking out for one another. How do we carry out the command to love? I found a good inspiration in a FB message: “Let prayer be your first response; NOT your last resort.” I know from experience that whatever it may be that life and people throw at us, our first response should be to step back, or rather step into our hearts, and connect with the heart of Jesus. If we do this then we open ourselves to grace and to the Spirit that will provide us with the strength we need. These coming weeks you will be witnessing some changes in our facilities in an effort to address the issues our insurance inspector brought out, and it is quite a long list. Thank you for your generosity that makes it possible for us to continue working towards keeping our facilities. We have posted a report of the proceeds of the “Handog.” With the gift of many loving hands and hearts it was a memorable and successful evening. Thank you very much for all your

Today’s Readings First Reading — Paul and Barnabas continue their travels, spreading the faith and unifying the churches (Acts 14:21-27). Psalm — I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God (Psalm 145). Second Reading — John’s vision of God dwelling with the human race (Revelation 21:1-5a). Gospel — As Jesus has loved us, so we must love one another (John 13:31-33a, 34-35). April 27th at 9am or 7pm You are invited to the fourth presentation on “Demystifying the Book of Revelantion” presentation this Wednesday at 9am or 7pm in the parish hall. Come join in the discussion of this extraordinary book of the bible. For further information, please call Nancy at 949-766-8126 or Barb at 949-768-1170.

Demystifying the Book of Revelation A short six-week experience ♦ Do you know the Book of Revelation is in the Genre of Apocalyptic Literature? ♦ Do you know the Genre of the Bible? ♦ Is the Book of Revelations literal or code? ♦ Who is 666 in the Book of Revelation? These and many more questions will be answered in this five-week program utilizing a guided DVD created by Fr. William Burton, OFM, from Wednesday April 6th through May 4th. This will take place at the usual Bible Study times, Wednesdays at 9am and 7pm.

True Christian Community Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today’s scripture readings? Communities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. “Behold, I make all things new,” we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John’s vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior’s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision of a true Christian community in our lives today? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Jubilee Day for Youth This Sunday’s “Youth Jubilee” previews July’s World Youth Day in Krakow. Its theme from Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful,” echoes Pope Francis’ warning that “the practice of mercy is waning in the wider culture.” In countercultural witness, therefore, “the time has come,” says Francis, “for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters.” Jesus affirms the same in today’s Gospel. “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Francis concludes, “The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love.” Jesus too asserts, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Thus mercy “makes young” the Church, the world, and everyone. “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10).
