graces we need from her Son our Lord parroquia, ya sea para reparaciones, Jesus in our intention to glorify Him by mantenimiento o equipamiento de las instalaciones. our lives.

JMJ September 9, 2018 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. A week or so ago, we mailed the letter for the Festival that is now “Santiago CultureFest” 2018 to celebrate the diversity of our Parish. We have also enclosed the opportunity drawing tickets to build our funds for the Parish. May I take this opportunity to thank all those who again were the first responders to this annual effort. May I also humbly ask others to find it in their hearts to help us by turning in their donations to raise funds for the constant needs of our parish whether for facilities repairs, maintenance or equipment.

It is in times like what we are experiencing now as a Church, when we are once again confronted with the challenge to search into our hearts and spirits to truly believe in God. I reflect on what Bishop Labayen said to me once when I was experiencing a crisis of faith: “the Church is human and Divine,” what has been the source of scandals, grievous mistakes and yes, the abuses is part of the humanity of the Church but that the Church has survived, been transformed, reformed and purified is the part where the Divine Spirit aids, rescues, guides and leads the Church.

I have been asked, why do I lead the people to pray Hail Mary to Our Blessed Mother at the end of the Mass – my reply is that growing up it was a practice to “kiss the hand” of the elderly to ask for their blessing and prayers before we leave the house. Praying to our Spiritual Mother right before we are dismissed at Mass is expressing our desire for her to accompany us and to interceed for the

The Gospel teaches us to come to our Lord Jesus for any and all afflictions. Many has been affected by what has happened. Let us come to Our Merciful Saviour who in the words He pronounced: “Ephatha!” – Be Opened! Open our hearts to the grace of Hope, Help and Healing Me han preguntado, ¿por qué llevo a la gente a for all of us who are the people of God. rezar el Ave María a Nuestra Santísima Madre al God bless and take care. final de la misa? On behalf of our Parish Family, I thank our Hispanic brothers who volunteered to Love and prayers, work on our landscaping and gardens last Labor Day. They offered their services to help improve our surroundings. They spent the whole day cleaning, trimming and maintaining our trees. Bless their Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval generous hearts and kind concern for our Church campus. Yesterday, September 8th we celebrated the Birthday of our Blessed Mother Mary. Most of us, if not all have been recipients of her maternal intercession and care. Have we not run to her, prayed and asked that she beseech her son, our Lord Jesus to grant what we request and need. We also found comfort in the knowledge that we have a spiritual mother who comes to our aid and would move heaven and earth to make sure we experience the unconditional love of God. She has also given us the example of courageous faith when she stood with John the Beloved Disciple at the foot of the Cross.

P. Thomas Paul K. Naval

SAFE ENVIRONMENT The Office of Child and Youth Protection supports the Bishop’s commitment to create a safe environment through our parishes and schools so that children and youth are free to worship and learn without the threat of harm through the implementation of safeguards which protect the most vulnerable and aids in healing those who have been harmed in the past. All ministries working directly or indirectly with children, seniors, and the vulnerable should be in compliance with safe environment and fingerprints rules and regulations, we are taking extra caution to be in compliance with the USCCB and Diocesan policies. The safety of our children and the vulnerable is our commitment and priority here at Santiago de Compostela. For more information, visit our Parish Website or contact Shirley Burgos [email protected].

May all of us remember with love and compassion this day. May we grieve with those who still mourn, and share memories with those who cannot forget. May we draw strength from those who bravely responded, and gave their lives to save others. May we stand with strangers who became neighbors that day, and remember their generosity and hospitality. Above all God may we remember your faithfulness and learn to trust in your unfailing love.
