Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time – to keep on trying until, with the help of God’s grace, I will succeed. I pray 11 September, 2016 daily to Mama Mary (whose birthday My Dearest Parish Family, we celebrated last September 8th) to God be with us always. intercede for me; to be my advocate, The Prodigal Son is one of the Gospel companion, guide, and inspiration in stories that touch and move the hearts my vocation. You all are lifted up in my of people. It is our Loving Father’s love prayers as well. story with each one of us. God will do God bless and take care. everything to find us: the Good Shepherd leaving the 99 to look for the Love and prayers, one lost sheep that He carries on His shoulders. God will give up anything so we can go back and be reunited with Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval Him. The Paschal Mystery clearly shows us how immense, real, and unlimited His Mercy is for us. JMJ
When I reflect on these stories – I often have to pause and ask myself how have I responded to such a great gift of love, such manifestation of compassion – and I often realize that I fall short . . . that with the help of God’s grace, I can do more. The past two weeks we were given the opportunity to respond to this great love. Yesterday, September 10th, we had the Light the Fire of Evangelization Retreat, an opportunity for us to be inspired and creative in our evangelization. Pope Francis continues to remind us to bring the Joy of the Gospel to wherever we go. Next weekend after each Mass, September 17th and 18th, there is another opportunity to engage this love by taking time to actively participate in our Parish Community through the Ministry Fair. So please do consider visiting, observing, conversing, and enlisting in a Ministry that would suit the gifts and talents God has given us. We are a very rich parish in terms of the gifts we bear, which we can share. Sharing in the Mission of Christ is daunting and full of challenges, but as the saying goes: “Many hands make the load light.”
Cuando reflexiono sobre estas historias – a menudo tengo que hacer una pausa Will you be one of those hands lifting y preguntarme cómo he respondido al the Cross of Love in our parish? Will regalo tan grande de amor, como la you lend your voice to speak the Joy, manifestación de la compasión - y Hope, Mercy and Love to each person muchas veces me doy cuenta de que me you meet? As I ask you this question, quedo corto…. que con la ayuda y la please know that everyday I ask myself gracia de Dios puedo hacer más. the same. I always answer, “Yes, I will try!” Honestly, that is all I can commit
Amor y oraciones,
Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

Fifteen years ago, the continuing TV coverage of the imploding twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York was unbearable for me, as were accounts of the crashes and destruction in Washington and the hills of Pennsylvania. The immense devastation of human life was incomprehensible. Visiting the site in New York some five years later reopened searing wounds, and overwhelmed me with immense sadness. An incursion on our soil, carefully planned and executed by foreign elements, had shattered my cherished sense of security, and provoked a frightening sense of God’s absence. How could my Catholic faith tradition enable me to endure this tragedy? I knew that neither vengeance nor sweeping animosity was an option for me.
You have left us crushed . . . covered us with darkness. We are bowed down to the ground (Psalm 44:20, 26). O Lord of hosts, restore us; Let your face shine upon us (Psalm 80:4). The Psalmist cries a lament, expressing the mourning of the Israelite people, the chosen of God, who had regarded themselves as untouchable and above reproach, now hurled into misery. The lament expresses a nation’s agony, dares to complain against their divine protector, may even own some complicity in the misery, and finally pleads with God for deliverance. In the midst of lamenting, the faith of Israel endured, as must ours. We are as vulnerable as they were to the violence and hatred that seem to encircle us. Our demand for a divine explanation goes unheeded. Yet we have learned of the selfsacrificing heroism of many, witnessing to the finest character of our nation and of our Christian heritage. Dying for one’s friends is a sacred theme in our story, epitomized in Jesus, our Savior, and extended through centuries in the grandest and noblest acts of men and women in all circumstances. In 2001 we came together as one nation under God, sharing the grief, the disillusionment, and the promise to rebuild. As today we lament our honored dead and wounded, shall we translate such agonizing emotion into a persistent pursuit of worldwide reconciliation and peace? —Rev. Andrew Nelson, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co
