SES - SALINAS ELEMENTARY Chair Persons of CNA campus committees prioritize needs and recommend to SBDM Committee initiatives/strategies/activities that will meet campus needs. SBDM Committee will approve initiatives/strategies/activities that will be placed in Campus Improvement Plan.

Demographic: Needs : Boost incentive programs to encourage and motivate students to participate in reading including Accelerated Reader, Reading Madness, and Vocabulary parade.

Strategies : Initiatives/Strategies/Activities (addressing the identified needs): -Procure funds for A/R incentives and allocate funds for purchase of Spanish/bilingual titles to meet the needs of all students, including the LEP population. -D.E.A.R. time every Friday afternoon from 2:00-3:00 p.m. All students will have the opportunity to drop everything and read and do AR (no R.T.I. nor iStation during this time). Dedicated time for reading and testing for all students. -School wide initiative-Once a semester or if possible once every six weeks during P.E. time have an A/R picnic. - Students will have the opportunity to read and test in the gym. (Books and chrome books will be taken to gym). -Purchase of charms (moneys allotted by school)-Student recognition for reaching their AR goal by providing them with a necklace with a charm every six weeks for acquiring certain amount of points as set by the AR committee. Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment : Needs : -Continued improvement toward campus goal of meeting system safeguards in the area of special education. -Integration of instructional committee’s at every faculty meeting. -Desegregate data consistently with goals of 90, 60, 30 (approaches, meets, masters) after every testing opportunity. - Additional Vertical Alignment sessions. -PLC's focused on high order thinking skills and activities. -On-going professional development.

Strategies : Initiatives/Strategies/Activities (addressing the identified needs): -Reading: Fidelity to STAAR reading strategies; Reading/AR committee input; building on AR program success-Platinum bracket in the madness competition. -Math: In house math bee competition; math olympics (to be organized by Instructional Math committee-data driven) -Writing: Continued reflective journal writing opportunities; additional vertical alignment sessions with the focus on writing. (Writing Committee) Initiate a grade level pen pal writing opportunity, at minimum one in the fall and one in the spring. -Science: Learning walks focused on science throughout all grade levels. (Organized by science committee) -E.L.L/Special Education- Development of progress monitoring charts for students to self monitor their own progress.

Teacher incentive to assist with Extended Library, accumulate compensatory time for early release during designated days. Also teacher/class with the highest percentage attended rewarded with Pizza Party, etc. -Initiate a reading day via P.E. classes.

Necesidades : Impulsar programas de incentivos para alentar y motivar a los estudiantes a participar en la lectura, incluyendo lectura aceleraada, locura de lectura y desfile de vocabulario.

Estrategias : IIniciativas/Estrategias/Actividades: dirigirse a las necesidades identificades -Procurar fondos para incentivos y asignar fondos para la compra de titulos bilingue en espanol para satisfacer las necesidades de todos los estudiantes, incluida la poblacion LEP. -Horario todos los viernes por la tarde de 2-3:00 pm.
