Dear Parishioners, This week marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week, a time when we especially promote and give thanks for Catholic schools. It is impossible to quantify the value of a Catholic school education, of learning in an atmosphere in which your Catholic faith is nurtured and celebrated. Parents are the first educators of their children in the ways of faith, but having that education reinforced throughout the day makes it a little easier “to see to it that the divine life which God gives them is kept safe,” as we hear at baptism. We are proud to be one of two parishes that sponsors the great school of Notre Dame Academy. I encourage you to watch a brief and inspiring video testimonial from St. Gabriel and Immaculate Heart of Mary parishioners about the impact of a Catholic education. It can be found on NDA’s homepage at www.nda-mn.org. As we support our young parishioners to grow in their faith, please consider a visit to Notre Dame Academy during Catholic Schools Week. Tour Sunday is this weekend, January 27, from 9:30am - 12:00pm. We will also have the annual Blizzard Bingo at the school on Saturday, February 2, starting at 5:30 pm. To learn more, you can contact Joann Meyer at [email protected]. -Fr. Liekhus Come to Me all who labor and are burdened… Jesus continues to ask us to come to Him. Miracles happen in Adoration. Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10; 1 Corinthians 12:12-30; Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21

I like to imagine that I was present in the synagogue when Jesus walked in that day. I would hear him read from Isaiah as Isaiah foretold the coming of the Messiah. And then when Jesus sat down, I would hear him proclaim he was the fulfillment of that reading. WOW! That should have gotten everyone’s attention. I would like to imagine that I was present as a 15-year-old boy, as a 30 -year-old man and as a 50-year-old man. What would my reaction have been at those ages? Questions: • As a 15-year-old, you would have known Jesus as one of the young adults in town. Could you have seen him as the long-awaited Messiah? • As a 30-year-old, could you see him, your play mate, as the Messiah? • As a 50-year-old, would you say, “I’ve watched him grow up, and he is just what I expect the Messiah to be. • Discuss among yourselves what your reaction would have been at the various ages. For more information or to sign up for a small group, contact Karen Fish at 952-239-1949.

27th World Day of the Sick Mass

celebrated by Bishop Andrew Cozzens

February 9, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, West St. Paul. This annual Mass reminds us all to pray for the sick and to honor those who work in health care, including caregivers. Special blessings with water from Lourdes from the Order of Malta will be available! Following Mass there will be a reception and a talk by Hennepin County Medical Center Chaplain and Curatio's chaplain, Father Marcus Milless. Everyone is welcome, especially those who are ill, caregivers, and health care workers. Funeral Luncheons: You are invited to share in this Fellowship Ministry! "The Funeral Luncheon Ministry reaches out with care and hospitality to those grieving the loss of a loved one, to let them know they do not walk alone.” You can share in this ministry in at least a few ways: ♦ Add your name to our list of people willing to bring desserts for funeral luncheons. We usually ask for two dozen cookies, bars or brownies, baked at home or purchased. The more people we have on this list, the more we can share in this fellowship! ♦ Add your name to the list of people willing to help set up, serve and clean up after funeral lunches. ♦ Consider helping with the coordination of funeral lunches. Coordinators make the initial contact with a family to confirm the menu and the number of people. Then they contact the caterer to place the order, and luncheon ministers to help serve. The parish office will help you get the resources you need. The more people we have to help, the more we can share the ministry! Please call or e-mail Sheila in the parish office.

Please send 650 copies this week.
