The second collection in January will be used to help our local ‘SOUTHWEST OPTIONS FOR WOMEN” (previous name – Minnetonka LifeCare Center) on Mainstreet in Hopkins. A small portion will be set aside for our ACCL Committee to provide Pro-Life Education, including future speakers, pamphlets, DVD’s, flyers, postage, etc. Parenting programs, child development classes, financial assistance and even housing are a part of what OPTIONS FOR WOMEN Centers provide. It’s not enough to say “don’t have an abortion” – we can all be a part of helping women consider the Pro-Life decision by letting them know about the no -cost services and life-affirming solutions available for women. The SOUTHWEST OPTIONS FOR WOMEN is EXPANDING! They will continue to support people with pregnancy testing, maternity and baby needs including formula, diapers, baby food and more! They hope to purchase an ultra-sound machine and more! Pray that all these Mothers can make a fresh start, a new beginning and share a positive future with their babies. Cash, coin and checks are welcome or give online directly from your bank account or credit card. Checks are to be made out to St. Gabriel the Archangel Church with ‘ACCL’ written in the memo section. Visit the parish website to give online. Please be generous on January 13 and 14.

This past month has been a learning experience for me, as we’ve gone through the process of the feasibility study. Many of those who participated were very encouraging, and I am grateful for that. It was good for me to hear the thoughts and feelings of so many members, and gain a better understanding of the questions and concerns that are out there. On the advice of the campaign consultants, we’re going to conduct a five-week series of presentations, addressing the common questions that we heard. In my mind, it’ll serve like a State of the Parish address. These will take place immediately following every Mass, in the worship space. You’ll hear from members of our staff, our leadership councils, and from me. We’ll also make written materials available, for those who process information better when they can read it (like me.) One question that came up a few times during the study that I’d like to address now is “Where will new members come from?” There is the thought out there that because there isn’t much new development in our territory, we don’t have much potential to grow. So, I thought I’d share the reasons why people are joining our parish. I’ve asked our newest members to share with me why they joined the parish, and I wish I’d done it sooner – the responses are very encouraging. Some are too long to put entirely in the bulletin, but each week, I’ll share a blurb of what brought someone to our doors. Be encouraged! We have a lot to offer here at St. Gabriel’s. –Fr. Liekhus

We went to every Catholic church within 20 minutes of our new place, so we tried 3-4 churches and were looking for a setting we fit in best with. The parish was welcoming to a family with young children. Never crossed our mind that the parish didn't have potential for growth and in fact we felt like the parish had a growing and lively vibe as-is. Happy to help in the future any way we can.

You are invited to a Day of Reflection on the subject of St. Joseph on Saturday, February 10 from 11:00am to 4:30pm. Our guest speaker, Fr. Lon Konold, OMI, will walk us through the reasons why St. Joseph is such a great example of what it means to be a man devoted to God and his family. The cost for this event is TBD based on the number of attendees. To register or for more information, please email [email protected].

January 14, 2018 – Second Sunday in Ordinary Time I Samuel 3:3b-10, 19; Psalm 40; I Corinthian’s 6:3-15, 17-20; John 1:35-42 In the first reading God calls Samuel out of his sleep; he’s confused. Samuel and Eli didn’t understand that God was calling Samuel. After three tries Eli realizes God is calling Samuel and instructs him to listen to God’s call when it happens again. The psalm begins with the Lord hearing the psalmist’s cry. The Lord responded to the cry putting a new song into his being. In the second reading Paul instructs us that our body is a temple, a dwelling of the Holy Spirit. We are called to reverence our bodies. John instructs two of his disciples to follow Jesus as he walks by, that Jesus is the Lamb of God. They listened and left John to follow Jesus. One of John’s disciples was Andrew. Andrew brought his brother Simon Peter to Jesus. Jesus looked at Simon and changed his name to Peter. For more information or to sign up for a small group contact Karen Fish at (952) 239-1949. Reflection Questions: • When has God spoken to you in or through a dream? • When did you wake up from sleep and have a clear answer to a problem or circumstance you were dealing with? • In a time of crying out to God, when did you know your cries were heard? Did you have to wait long? • What are some ways you treat your body with reverence? • Would you want to know where Jesus was staying? • Are you open to be changed by Jesus like Simon Peter was?

Sign-up in the foyer at St. John campus to help prepare the meal at St. Joseph campus at 3:00pm or to set-up, serve or clean-up after the meal. nombre.
