Stewardship—Sharing Our Treasure Missionary Priest will be recipient in July The Conventual Friars of Our Lady of Consolation Province serve throughout the United States. Our Friars work in retreat ministry and staff parishes, serve as chaplains in hospitals, nursing homes, military bases, and prisons. We have theologians and scientists teaching in seminaries and universities. Franciscans have always been active missionaries serving in Zambia, Russia, Central America, and in mission dioceses in the United States. We have built community centers, schools and churches, and years ago one Friar even moved a church building 17 miles from a military base to his parish in New Mexico. Some of the things we are known for:  Spiritual direction to youth groups and people in 12-Step programs  Helping out in soup kitchens  Saying Mass and providing the sacraments to those who speak other languages. We strive to deepen our relationship with God as individuals and as a community by praying together in our friaries morning and evening and celebrating daily Mass. We welcome new men to our community, teaching and forming them in the Franciscan way of life. We care for one another when we fall ill, and as we advance into old age. We have hobbies such as gardening, playing music, or painting, and one is learning to brew his own beer. Living in community, we love to laugh. We spend time around the table, and hanging out in the kitchen to see what’s on the stove or grabbing a cookie. And whether we work in an office or retreat center or parish, whatever we may be doing, we always have time for you. Nothing is more important than someone who needs a moment, whether you need to talk, to pray, to cry, or to laugh. In all of these things, we follow our spiritual father, St. Francis of Assisi. His path is the road toward God. But it isn’t a solitary path, it’s one we walk together as Friars, as brothers. We invite you to walk with us. Please be generous with your support.

Because of the length of the list, names will be published for one month. Should you wish this extended, call the Parish Office. Thank you.

Why did God create us? Why did He create a world in which evil exists? Who is Jesus Christ? How do I discern right from wrong? How do I live a life of holiness? What must I do to inherit eternal life? These are the types of questions we address when preparing adults to enter the Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). A faith that does not have an answer to the deepest questions of human existence is not much use. Why do I exist? What is the purpose of my life? How do I find happiness? I can tell you the answer the Catholic Church gives to these questions; you can decide if you find them persuasive. If you have thought about entering the Catholic Church, I encourage you to pray to God for guidance, and to consider whether now is the time to take that next step. RCIA begins in September; we will meet weekly on an evening that works for the group, up until the Easter Vigil on March 31. Contact the office for more information. Parishioners, do you know the answers to these questions? Many times, the Catholic sponsors who walk with the candidates tell me that they learned as much as those who are entering the Church. If you would like to be a parish sponsor, or if you would just like to come to learn more about your faith, you are very welcome to join us. There is always more to learn about the beauty of our faith. Fr. Liekhus

Parish News SMALL GROUP MEDITATION 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time (July 2, 2017) 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16a; Romans 6:3-4, 8-11; Matthew 10:37-42 The Gospel sounds harsh! Jesus is talking to his Apostles and instructing them in the meaning and costs of discipleship. We learn we are not worthy of Jesus if we don’t love him more than family. But stop and think about what Jesus is saying. Jesus comes first. He is God, he comes first. Yes, he expects us to love our parents. He expects us to love our children. But Jesus expects to be part of the family and its head. His only point is that we must love him first and foremost and then the family along with him. Jesus calls us to be faithful to him by taking up our cross and following him. When we do this, he will walk with us. He not only expects us to love family, but to love those in need around us. In the reading from the second book of Kings, the gospel story is played out. The woman of Shunem receiving her reward for receiving the prophet: the promise of a child. We are called to be there for one another and then as it states in the Gospel, we will receive a proper reward. For more information or to sign up for a small group contact Karen Fish at (952) 239-1949. Reflection Questions: When you read this gospel, how does it come off to you? Which are you more aware of, your cross or your blessings? Do you think the “just reward” will be in this world or the next?

XIII Domingo Ordinario “A”

(Mateo 10:37-42).
