In the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, we receive the grace of healing, forgiveness and strength at a time when our own resources often fail. In Matrimony, God seals the love of a man and a woman with a grace so that their marriage can mirror the relationship between Christ and his Church; a relationship that is faithful, fruitful and permanent. In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, the grace is given for men to become another Christ offering himself and others as a sacrifice to the Father. ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “He said, ‘To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it?’” (Mark 4:30) To us modern readers, parables can be the source of much confusion and misunderstanding. What can help us out is to know that the root meaning of the word “parable.” It means“ making a comparison.” Historically and factually, what we do know about Jesus is that he taught in parables, comparing between the heavenly realities, and what was familiar to common the person of his day. His parables were challenging to his disciples then, and to us today. This Gospel passage is a prime example. Jesus gives us two puzzling parables. He created these early in his ministry to summarize his teachings about the coming of the kingdom of God. In the first parable, the seeds are planted and are expected to grow on their own. Jesus explains it but the best set of plans the farmer may have does not always end that way. Bad things happen. Sometimes the harvest is delayed or may not appear to produce at all no matter what the farmer did. It was the same with Jesus’ teachings. In spite of his preaching the word, his healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, feeding the multitudes, and raising others to life, Jesus appeared to have failed from the disciples’ perspective. Yet, in the second parable, Jesus presents the other challenge that helps us to appreciate more the first parable. The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds. Once planted in the ground it grows to the biggest of plants providing shade to all around it. We plant the seed. Then, it is through the grace of God, in his own time that allows the smallest of seeds to grow. Our responsibility is just to plant the seed. God will do the rest. Jesus spoke these two parables at a time that the disciples were probably very discouraged and were expecting much more from his ministry. Jesus is reminding them to be patient, to have faith, to trust in the power of God and God will provide. Today, the parable speaks forcefully to us in our plans, ministries, and efforts to build God’s kingdom. Yes, we have set dates and measured out times for completion of our important projects. However, if it belongs to God, and is from God, it will be in God’s time. Failure is not an option in God’s kingdom. We just need to plant the seed! Deacon Ronald Ealey

DECIMO PRIMER DOMINGO EN EL TIEMPO ORDINARIO Les dijo también: «¿Con que compararemos el Reino de Dios? ¿Con que parábola lo podremos representar? " (Marcos 4:30) Para nosotros los lectores modernos, las parábolas pueden ser fuente de mucha confusión e incomprensión. Wanted: Positive Male Role Models

Father’s Day reminds us that fathers are a tremendous source of love, strength and protection for a child. Notwithstanding the faithful and heroic efforts of single moms bringing up children in today’s society, children still need to be around Christian men who are positive role models; men who are actively involved in their life of faith, possess spiritual passion, and are faithful fathers and husbands. Undoubtedly, parishes need more men to be involved in the spiritual development of young people. Males bring a unique contribution that cannot be successfully substituted by females. Only men can serve as male role models and communicate the model of God as a loving father to children.

El día del padre nos recuerda que los padres son una enorme fuente de amor, fuerza y protección para un niño. A pesar de los esfuerzos heroicos de fieles y las madres solteras que cuidan sus hijos en la sociedad actual, los niños todavía necesitan estar cerca de hombres cristianos que sean modelos positivos; hombres, que estén involucrados activamente en su vida de fe, que poseen la pasión espiritual, y son fieles padres y maridos. In today’s society, for a number of reasons, many children grow up in single-parent homes, nurtured by their mothers. The parish or school may be the only place where these children have an opportunity to interact with men who model the loving, caring, and nurturing values of Christian manhood. Children can benefit from having a positive and responsible male role model in their lives. It is said of young males that they are naturally more attentive to men when being taught good manners and respect for others. Men are generally better able to get young males unhooked from video games and involved in athletic competitions and outdoor activities so they can experience a wider world, and do things that are physically demanding; thus realizing a host of virtues.

En la sociedad actual, por una serie de razones, muchos niños crecen en hogares con un solo progenitor, alimentados por sus madres. Of course, much of the above can be said for the importance of men in the lives of young women as well. But men can offer a unique Christian witness to young women in a culture that is so focused on young females as sex objects. It is important for girls to experience positive male role models; Christian men who see young women as children of God and are interested in what they say, think and feel as they grow in their spiritual lives. Young people need both male and female role models. But adult males are fewer to be found. Let Father’s Day remind us to find ways to connect with fathers and invite other positive male role models into the faith formation of our young people. Let’s encourage men to get more involved in the parish as mentors, tutors, catechists and other ministries. Let’s help young people see first-hand how Christian men follow Jesus Christ and live as his disciples in today’s world. International Stewardship Council

Los adolescentes varones parecen desarrollar la inteligencia emocional, habilidades sociales, y los valores cristianos con más facilidad de otros hombres. NEW ASSIGNMENTS Father Alberto Biondi has been assigned to Saint Catherine Laboure in Wheaton, MD. This assignment begins July 5. We pray that our Lord will continue to bless his priestly ministry. Father Luis Marroquin has been assigned as our New Parochial Vicar. Father Marroquin has been the Parochial Vicar at St. Catherine Laboure Parish for 17 years. NUEVAS ASIGNACIONES El padre Alberto Biondi ha sido asignado a Saint Catherine Laboure en Wheaton, MD. Esta tarea comienza el 5 de julio. Roguemos para que nuestro Señor continue bendiciendo su ministerio sacerdotal. El padre Luis Marroquin ha sido asignado como nuestro nuevo vicario parroquial. El Padre Marroquin ha sido el Vicario Parroquial de la Iglesia St. Catherine Laboure por 17 años. El comenzará su asignación el 19 de julio. Roguemos para que nuestro Señor lo bendiga y lo guíe en su nueva asignación en nuestra parroquia.

RCIA CLASSES The RCIA program is for persons wanting to become Catholics or for Catholics who have not completed all of their sacraments of initiation, particularly Confirmation and Eucharist.
