Whirlpool, KitchenAid & R oper Roper Procedures for Using R414A (R12 Replacement). R414A has been approved by Whirlpool as a general R12 replacement. R414A is a blend of several refrigerants that is designed to perform properly with mineral oil, alkyl benzene or ester oil. The following procedures must be followed to insure proper results with R414A.

CHARGING PROCEDURES ● Always charge R414A as a liquid. The tank should be in the upright position with the handles up. An internal dip tube will supply liquid to the top of the tank. ● Never “top off” a system with a vapor charge. When a leak occurs on a system containing a refrigerant blend, the components leak at different rates, changing the composition of the remaining refrigerant. Always completely evacuate and repair a system before charging. Refer to R-77 LIT4321717A for proper procedures.

CHARGING AMOUNTS R414A is lighter than R12. This makes it necessary to adjust the charge when charging by weight.

Scale: ● If you are using a scale to weigh the charge you must use 80% of the listed R12 amount. Multiply the R12 amount by .8. Example: if the R12 amount is 7.5 ounces, the formula is 7.5 x .8 = 6. Use 6 ounces of R414A.

Cylinder: ● If you are using a cylinder with a sight tube, use the same amount as is listed for R12.

LABEL REQUIREMENTS When repairs have been completed place two R414A labels on the appliance. Place one below the model/serial plate and one above the unit compartment to notify the next technician of the refrigerant change. Labels will be provided by the parts distributor when the refrigerant is purchased and may be requested as needed.

LEAK DETECTION Leak detection is the same as with R-12 or R-22.

Whirlpool, KitchenAid & R oper Roper Procedimientos para Utilizar el R414A (reemplazo del R12) El R414A ha sido aceptado por Whirlpool como reemplazo general del R12. El R414A es una mezcla de varios refrigerantes que están diseñados para desempeñarse apropiadamente con aceite mineral, benceno alquídico o aceite ester. Para asegurar resultados apropiados con el R414A deben seguirse los siguientes procedimientos:

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE CARGA ● Siempre cargue el R414A como un líquido. El tanque debe estar en posición vertical con las manijas hacia arriba. Un tubo interno descenderá para proporcionar el líquido a la parte superior del tanque. ● Nunca “Llene hasta el tope” un sistema con carga de vapor. Cuando ocurre un escape en un sistema que contiene una mezcla de refrigerante, el escape de los componentes se efectúa en proporciones diferentes, cambiando así la composición del refrigerante restante. Vacíe Siempre completamente el sistema y restaure antes de cargar. Refiérase a R-77 LIT4321717A para los procedimientos apropiados.

CANTIDADES CARGA El R414A es más ligero que el R12. Esto hace que sea necesario ajustar la carga por peso.

Balanza: ● Si está acostumbrado a pesar la carga en una balanza usted debe usar el 80% de la cantidad listada para el R12. Multiplique la cantidad de R12 por 0.8. Ejemplo: si la cantidad de R12 es 7.5 onzas, la fórmula es 7.5 x 0.8 = 6. Por tanto debe usar 6 onzas de R414A.

Cilindro: ● Si usted está empleando un cilindro con un tubo indicador, utilice la misma cantidad que se ha listado para R12.

REQUISITOS DE LA ETIQUETA Cuando haya completado la restauración coloque dos etiquetas de R414A en el aparato. Coloque una debajo de la plaqueta de Modelo y Serie y la otra sobre el compartimento de la unidad para notificar al próximo técnico el cambio de refrigerante. Las etiquetas serán suministradas por el distribuidor de partes cuando se compra el refrigerante y pueden pedirse si se requieren.

DETECCIÓN DE ESCAPES La detección de escape es igual que en el R-12 o en el R-22.
