Message of Mercy Jesus to St. Faustina My Daughter, even if you were to speak at one and the same time in all human and angelic tongues, even then you would not have said very much, but on the contrary, you would have sung in only a small measure the praises of My goodness, of My unfathomable mercy. ( 9 )

World Youth Day: By Fr. Miguel Our pilgrimage to Krakow was a blessing for our parish and a life-changing experience for our young adults who made the pilgrimage. What is World Youth Day (WYD)? World Youth Day is a worldwide encounter with the pope which is celebrated every 2 years in a different country. Young people from all over the world make the pilgrimage and participate with great enthusiasm and faith in the events organized by the host country. This year, WYD was hosted by Krakow, Poland, the country of St. John Paul II. WYD is open to young people from all over the world willing to share and to deepen our catholic faith with other millions of young people attending the event. It is an event in which our young people experience the universality of the church and get closer to God in a youthful way. The next WYD will be in Panama in 2019. Nancy Garcia, who is a youth leader in our parish shares her experience at WYD. “Standing in front of Our Lady of the Rosary on July 15th, at 4 o’clock in the morning, I wasn’t prepared for what would await me at the 2016 World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland. Pope Francis had declared this year the Jubilee year of mercy and our pilgrimage was focused on the bible verse, Matthew 5:7, ‘Blessed are the merciful for they shall be shown mercy’. The six-hour time difference didn’t stop us as we walked throughout the cities of Prague, Warsaw and Krakow learning about their history, saints and walking through several doors of mercy. Our adventures followed us to Warsaw in Poland. Where families of the Saint Maximilian Kolbe parish, a Saint who had been killed in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, took us in and showed us true Polish life. The city was full with pilgrims but that still hadn’t prepared me for the 2.5 or more million pilgrims from over 180 countries, that would meet in the city of Krakow to represent the young church. In those moments it didn’t matter if you were an 18 year old Mexican- American from New York, or a 68 year old Polish priest who had spent 30 years of his life doing mission work in Africa, because we were all one. Our age, customs and languages didn’t stop us from being moved by the Holy Spirit as we prayed for the intersection of Saint John Paul II, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, and Saint Faustina. With daily catechesis, mass, the Stations of the Cross, a 10 mile walk on Saturday that lead into a vigil and Sunday mass with the Pope, and the Salesian Expo, we barely had time to rest. I was chosen with my friend Ivan to be a delegate of my group and meet with Salesians from all around the world. We even got to meet Rector Major, the 10th successor of Don Bosco, and Mother General the 9th successor of Maria Mazzarello. I had gone on this journey hoping to get a clear answer to a specific question, instead I got the answers to questions I didn’t even know I had. I always thought that I knew what it meant to be a Catholic, but surrounded by millions of teens, I realized I found who I am.” Nancy Garcia

Nancy Garcia
