El Rinconcito del Padre

PASTOR’S CORNER

Estimados Feligreses,

Dear Parishioners,

Holy Week begins this weekend with the celebration of Passion or Palm Sunday. I invite all of our members to participate in the Sacred Triduum; Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. These days reenact the central mystery of faith; Christ's dying and rising.

During Lent we have journeyed with our elect in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA). Let's celebrate with them as they join our church or renew their profession of faith at Easter.

For Irish people this Easter has special significance as we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Easter Rising that led to Irish independence. The leaders of 1916 saw their effort for freedom in the context of resurrection. While the church decries the use of violent means it honors their sacrifice and faith.

Jesus saw his death and resurrection within the context of Exodus and Passover. The last supper was his Seder or Passover remembrance of the flight from Egypt and the journey to the promised land of freedom.

May this Holy Week serve to deepen our faith and strengthen the spirit of all who are on a journey to freedom and just.

With the blessings of St. Joseph and St. Patrick, Fr. Gerry P.S. Remember to bring back your Rice Bowl offerings and thanks for your Easter donations to our offertory.

Stewardship Reflections March 20, 2016 Palm Sunday “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me. “ (LUKE 22:34) How many times have you heard someone make a disparaging comment about Jesus or the Catholic faith? How do you react? Do you remain quiet not to cause a disturbance or worst yet, because you don’t want your friends or family to think negatively about you? Pray for the courage to speak up and enter into a respectful dialogue.
