Drawing on over twenty years of lectures, mo va onal speaking, wri ng, and TV/radio presentaons, Damon joyfully acclaims the goodness, truth, and beauty of human sexuality and its deepest meaning fulfilled by men and women who freely choose motherhood and fatherhood through marriage or celibacy for the sake of Heaven.

“Theology of the Body” or “TOB” is how Pope St. John Paul II described a series of 129 short weekly talks he gave from September 1979 to November 1984. These talks on human love in God’s divine plan were drawn from a manuscript he had completed just before his elec on to the papacy. Rather than publish his reflec ons, he modified them to deliver to the weekly visitors to St. Peter’s Square for the tradi onal Wednesday Angelus Prayer and Addresses. The TOB is a biblical reflec on on the meaning of human embodiment as male and female in the beginning of Crea on, now in history, and forever in Heaven.

What is “Theology of the Body”?

The TOB invites us to ponder the mystery that connects us (and all of Crea on) with our Creator from the body to the union of man and woman, the union of Christ and the Church, upward into the very inner life of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through the TOB, St. John Paul II asks and answers three fundamental human ques ons: “Who am I?”, “Why am I here?”, and “How do I live a life of true joy?”

Holy Family Cathedral PSA Collec on Update

Fr. Patrick recently reminded us, “while (PSA) is a diocesan appeal, some of the things that PSA provides directly benefit our parish. For example: educa on for our catechists and lay ministers; forma on and support for our priests and deacons; services for families in need; and scholarships for Holy Family Cathedral Parish School and Catholic high school tui on. The needs of the larger Catholic community in Orange are also met: families in need; educa on and services for the deaf community and individuals with disabili es; ministry to those in prison; vocaon awareness and seminary educa on for new priests, and much more.” Our parish PSA goal this year is $164,000. Once we have reached our goal, any money received will be returned to Holy Family Cathedral in the form of rebates. As in years past, these rebates will go toward improving our campus.

From last year’s rebates, we replaced the carpet in the sanctuary, purchased new banners and vestments, and replaced the transept doors. All this was possible because of your generosity. This year our plans for the rebates include: pain ng the exterior of the Cathedral, remodeling the restrooms in the hall, remodeling the kitchen in the hall, replacing the flooring in the hall, and video surveillance system for the en re Cathedral campus. Reflec ng on your own circumstances, the needs of our church, and praying about how God is asking you to respond, pledge envelopes can be completed by following the instruc ons listed on the envelope by mail, turning in to the collec on basket at Mass or dropped off at the parish office.
