Dear Parishioners, The summer can be a great time for families to have some fun and relaxation, with barbecues in the backyard, sports and camps for the kids, or outings to the park or the pool. It can also be a hectic time of getting the kids to these places, finding ways to keep them occupied since they’re not in school, or packing and traveling to various destinations. Might I suggest a way to counterbalance the busyness and stress that sometimes come with summer? One important way is by spending time alone daily with the Lord. Even Jesus needed to step back on a daily basis from his important ministry in order to go off alone and be replenished through prayer to the Father. We are not built for constant movement and activity; we are built for communion with God. Our adoration chapel is open 24/7, and families are welcome. What a wonderful habit it would be to start this summer of taking even ten minutes out of the day and spending it in prayer to God! And I would also suggest devoting some of your activity to service. Spending time in leisure and recreation is good and necessary, and gives glory to God; spending time serving others is life-giving and helps build His Kingdom. Loaves & Fishes is a great way for families to serve in the parish, any late afternoon/early evening, Saturday through Tuesday. Feeding the hungry in body and spirit is never a bad way to spend an evening-Fr. Liekhus

Hello Everyone! My name is Deacon Louie Floeder and I’m so happy to be spending the summer at St. Gabriel’s! I grew up with my 6 brothers and 3 sisters in Shoreview, MN. After graduating from Mounds View High School in 2011, I immediately joined the seminary. It has been a great 7 years and I still have one to go before (hopefully) being ordained a priest. And although I have only been here for a little over a week, I have really enjoyed my time. Father has really been a great mentor and God has blessed me with the opportunity to do a baptism in English and one in Spanish, assist at a burial, visit the sick, and preach. I look forward to meeting more of you and helping at/experiencing more of the great ministries this parish has to offer. Also, as Father mentioned and as I will shamelessly remind you, I would love to visit with you in your homes! May God bless you! -Deacon Louie
Please pray for the following students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on June 30th. Angela Cadena Gonzalez, Carlos Anthony Acevedo- Saavedra, Juliana Diaz, Maria del Carmen Caamaño, Pablo Sánchez Santiago and Yhoalibeth Dominguez-Lozano
This summer a group of 8 youth and 3 adults from our parish will be attending the Steubenville Youth Conference at the University of St. Thomas. We will be doing some fundraising to offset individual costs for the conference. After Masses this weekend, June 16/17, and next weekend June 23/24, our youth and leaders will be at the back of the church selling discount cards for local restaurants and services in the area. The cost of each card is $20 and the discounts on the card can be used for a full year. Please consider purchasing a card to support our youth! Thank you.
QUOTE FROM BOOK by Robbie Castleman "We need children in our churches. They can remind us vividly of what it means to be great believers. Young children have the capacity to accept as truth what is told to them by adults. Even at fairly early ages they can learn to tell the difference between the imaginary and the real if this distinction is made by a trusted adult. The ideas of faith need careful telling." Parents are to be the teachers of our Catholic Beliefs and the Parish is here to support you! Pray for guidance from God and ask for summer time suggestions from Kathleen Esh, Coordinator of Sunday Preschool. kesh@stgabrielhopkins .org or 952-933-7610 (pm hours).
TELL ME! What do YOU want your child to learn during our Vacation Bible School? That God is with them always? That adults in our parish show how special they are by coming to assist? That their parish is here to help us all when we are "Taking Care Of Business" which means sharing the Good News of Jesus in what we say and do? What else? Let me know! Congratulations, Fr. Matt Wheeler and the Wheeler Family! Fr. Matt Wheeler, son of Bill and Roberta Wheeler was ordained to the priesthood on June 2nd in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. From the Archdiocese of Los Angeles: At 30, Fr. William Matthew Wheeler is the youngest of this year’s ordination class. He is originally from Minnesota, but began discerning the priesthood after graduating from USC in 2010 with a degree in accounting. A year spent doing parish work at Holy Innocents in Long Beach convinced him to enter the seminary in 2011. He also sees the love of his parents as a clear sign of God’s action in his own life. “They are an inspiration and I am grateful for their example of self-sacrificing love,” Wheeler told Angelus News. “That love overflows into my life and the lives of my four siblings.” “There is so much work to do, but not enough time!” said Wheeler of his expectations of the priesthood. “But through our faithfulness to the gospel, I have a sense that God will multiply our time in miraculous ways.” His first Mass was celebrated at Holy Innocents on June 3, and his first parish assignment is at St. Anthony in San Gabriel. “ There is so much work to do, but not enough time! But through our faithfulness to the gospel I have a sense that God will multiply our time in miraculous ways.” Fr. William Matthew Wheeler

12 WEEKS TO THE FALL FESTIVAL Congratulations to Sue & Reinhard Ebnet!! They are celebrating Sue’s retirement with an amazing trip! However, it is during the Fall Festival. They have chaired the Beer Garden at St. Joseph’s Campus for several years and we are asking for another “volunteer angel” to Chair the Beer Garden for one-year only. The Beer Garden is a fun place to volunteer and this year the Vikings will be playing at noon against the 49ers. Chairing an event is very rewarding and easy as we have so many wonderful volunteers that sign up to help during activities. If you are interested in being the Chair for this fun event, please contact Romaine Bechir at (952) 988-0955.

Faith and Freedom: Grandparents and Grandchildren Pray at the Cathedral
In today’s gospel we see Jesus as the farmer again. He knows that people in general are somewhat aware of the mystery of the seed going into the ground and then being transformed into the mature plant. And so, He calls on this mystery to show the farmer planting the seed and then letting the mystery take place. As Jesus spoke in parables, He was also planting His Word. And a similar mystery takes place. The simple word enters one’s heart and grows to make one a follower of Christ. As Jesus’ word spreads from one heart to another, the church grows just like the mustard plant and the church is large enough to house everyone. And then there is the harvest. When we pass from this life to the next as we read in Paul’s letter “we must appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each may receive recompense according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil”. There is the planting, there is the growth and there is the harvest! • What was one of the earlier words or teachings of Jesus that took root in your heart to make you who you are today? • Just as the farmer has faith the seed will grow, what faith do you have the word of God in your heart will grow? • Do you have a favorite parable? • What preparation do you go through before planting a seed in another?

–Padre Liekhus
