Sergio Says… Keep the Peace This Summer…

Summer is finally here!!! Many families are preparing for their annual family vacation. Celebrities are no different as they also take this time of year to vacation with their families. Some stars even vacation together with their children after splitting up, as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have done (pictured). This is possible if you are able to stay friends after the divorce, but it’s safe to say that this is the exception for divorced and separated parents, and not the rule. Summer vacation can become a very challenging situation for parents who share custody. However, it is possible to keep the peace. Here are some tips to help. Plan – Parents should come up with a vacation schedule, especially since there may be court orders in place that specify the amount of time each parent has with the children. Communicate trip details – If you don’t share vacation plans with the other parent, you could face legal action. Both parents need to give permission unless otherwise stated in your orders. You should confirm agreement between parents in writing. Make a checklist – Use simple common courtesy and provide the trip itinerary to the non-traveling parent. Parents also need to be sure that copies of health insurance, immunization, and adequate amounts of children’s medications are packed. Write down what is needed and check it off once packed, and communicate that you have done so with the other parent. Don’t make it a competition – Children value quality time with parents over fancy trips. A trip to the zoo or tubing on a nearby river can be just as exciting as an elaborate vacation. Regardless of the family situation, kids just want to be with their parents and have fun. Don’t waste your time trying to “out-do” the other parent when planning your vacation. Keeping your children’s best interests in mind and working together cooperatively with the other parent will go a long way in helping you provide your children with a fun, safe and organized summer vacation. El verano finalmente llegó!!! Muchas familias se están preparando para sus vacaciones anuales. Las celebridades no son diferentes ya que toman este momento del año para vacacionar con sus familias. Algunas estrellas incluso después de separarse vacacionan juntos con sus hijos, como Ben Affleck y Jennifer Garner han hecho (en la foto). Esto es posible si logra mantener una relación después de divorciarse, pero se puede decir que esta es la excepción para los padres divorciados y separados y no la regla. Las vacaciones de verano pueden convertirse en una situación muy difícil para los padres que comparten la custodia. Sin embargo, es posible mantener la paz. Estos son algunos consejos que le ayudarán. Planear – Los padres deben crear un programa de vacaciones especialmente si hay órdenes judiciales establecidas que especifiquen la cantidad de tiempo que cada padre tiene con los niños. Comunicar detalles del viaje – Si no comunica los planes de vacaciones con el otro padre, podría enfrentarse a acciones legales. Ambos padres deben dar permiso a menos que una Orden indique lo contrario. Debe confirmar el acuerdo entre los padres por escrito. Haga una lista -Use simple cortesía y proporcione el itinerario de viaje al padre que no viaja. Los padres también necesitan asegurarse que se empaquen copias de seguro de salud, vacunación y los medicamentos adecuados de para los niños. Un viaje al zoológico o “tubing” en un río cercano puede ser tan emocionante como unas vacaciones elaboradas. Independientemente de la situación familiar, los niños sólo quieren estar con sus padres y divertirse. No pierda tu tiempo intentando "sobrepasar" al otro padre al planear sus vacaciones.
