Controversy seems to follow Donald Trump. From a legal standpoint, there’s an interesting controversy that started late 2014 and that some financial experts call brilliant. Donald Trump hired lawyers to save his son from being personally liable for a $3.5 million dollar loan to Deutsche Bank.

Trump Jr. was one of three partners that formed the failed South Carolina specialty construction products firm that has left a trail of lawsuits, unpaid bills and unpaid taxes. Donald Trump formed a new company with the sole purpose of acquiring the loan from Deutsche Bank secured by Trump Jr.’s failing business.

After acquiring the debt, Trump has begun foreclosure proceedings against his son’s business in an effort to collect. If the foreclosure is successful, Trump could possibly turn a profit on the debt, while relieving his son of personal liability. There are people out there, especially debtors in this case, who see this as a very dishonest business deal as taxes and other debts could go unpaid. I do not endorse Donald Trump, nor do I denounce his actions.
