Dear parish family,

Solemnity of the Body & Blood of the Lord

The Easter season ended on the feast of the Ascension of the Lord and there are three successive Solemnities that follows; Pentecost, Trinity Sunday and now Corpus Christi. The sequence of celebrations has its intended rationale as we resume the Ordinary Sundays. At Pentecost we contemplate the empowering of the Church by the power of the Holy Spirit after the Jesus ascended back to the Father. On the Feast of the Blessed Trinity we look at the very nature of God from whom divine life springs and spell unto to us. And on this Solemnity of the Body & Blood of the Lord, traditionally known to us as “Corpus Christi”, we are reminded how God continues to make Himself present to his Church, and how he sustains and nourishes us. And He achieves all this through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The centrality of the Eucharist in our Catholic life must help us also appreciate the critical importance of the Priesthood – without priests we can’t have the Eucharist. To underscore this need, on every Corpus Christi Sunday, the Archdiocese asks all parishes to give 100 percent of their Sunday Collection this weekend to the Seminary in support for the training of future priests. The Eucharist is loaded with theological meaning and pastoral significance which we can’t cover in one page. So I’ll highlight only the practical message. This is about “giving,” particularly giving of oneself for the good of another. For Jesus it is about giving his very self as spiritual food and for our salvation. That is the greatest proof of love - giving oneself to another not in partiality but in totality. That’s a way to love! It means to say that to be real Christians, we must also be Eucharistic people… people who knows how to give oneself for the good of the other. A scripture passage says, “it is in giving that we receive and live... The more we give the more we receive.” The Eucharist therefore counters the culture of selfishness. How profound its wisdom and how important for us to be reminded by its message when the prevalent culture pushes us with the mentality of getting rather than giving! We witness the irony before our eyes; many are getting much and losing the meaning of life. While those who give much are finding full meaning in life. So on this feast of the Eucharist; we may become what we receive. We may become like the Lord himself who is the total example of how one loves and how one gives. We may become true lovers and cheerful givers to our family, to our community, and to our church whether it be through our talents or through our treasures or simply the offering our time. In this way we reflect in our day to day life what this feast is all about. Blessings to all and have a good week.

Fr. Tony

Querida familia parroquial,

That we recognize no gift is too small or insignificant and look for the miracles that occur daily. “they all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.” (Luke 9:17) The story of the Loaves and Fishes shows us that when we share what we have, even if it doesn’t seem like that much, miracles can happen! Do not think that your gift is too small or insignificant! God blesses all the gifts we offer and makes them wondrous.
