Not much movement on our basic ministries in liturgy and faith formation. We’ve set a deadline of Monday, June 12, for those who wish to serve in these ministries over the next twelve months to let us know that. This is necessary so that we can plan for this upcoming year without having to scramble at the last minute to find ministers, or end up supplementing parish ministries with outside help. If you already serve in these ministries and plan on continuing to do so, please let us know by calling Sheila at the parish office. You can also let her know if this would be a new ministry for you, so we can discuss Safe Environment training and orientation. While I am still hopeful that we will be able to meet the bare minimum of needed ministers in these areas, I have begun discussing with my staff what to do in the short term this upcoming year if we don’t, and what to do in the long term to try to shore up these ministries in the future. I am especially concerned that we may be trying to do too much at a parish of our size, and that while it is a great blessing to have so much activity on our campuses throughout the week, we may be stretching our ministers too thin and asking too much of them, such that there aren’t enough for our basic ministries. I’m hopeful that we won’t have to make tough decisions like that, though, because it is a great blessing. Thank you again to all those who have stepped forward to serve in our ministries; may God bless you for responding to what He has put on your heart. -Fr. Liekhus

Parish News Pentecost Sunday (June 4, 2017) (Acts 2:1-11; 1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13; Jn 20: 19-23) All three readings are about the Spirit. The first reading describes the event we remember in the third glorious mystery of the rosary. The most sensational aspect of this event is the linguistic miracle where the disciples proclaim the Word of God and people understand them in all sorts of different languages. That may have been the sensational headline, but the more significant aspect of this event is the change that came over the attitude of the disciples. Before the Spirit descended upon them they were hiding inside a house for fear of those outside might say or do to them. And after the Spirit descended they were speaking boldly, unafraid of anyone. Pentecost brought unity and understanding – in contrast to Babel which brought division and misunderstanding. The Gospel from John gives an alternate description of the Holy Spirit as being imparted directly by the risen Jesus breathing on the disciples. In this version the fear experienced by the disciples is even more explicit. They were not only gathered together in one place, but the doors were locked “for fear of the Jews.” In Paul's letter to the Corinthians we are told that the
Holy Spirit can inspire us in very different ways as we fulfill our diverse missions. This should make us look at everything we do in life, no matter how mundane, and consider how that activity might be inspired by the Holy Spirit. For more information or to sign up for a small group contact Karen Fish at (952) 239-1949. Reflection Questions:
Imagine that you are one of the disciples, hiding from the
Jews. Describe how you might have felt. Have there been times in your life when were afraid of doing something, even though you knew intellectually that it was the right thing to do? We receive the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation. Do you recall any change in attitude that came over you at about that time? The Holy Spirit is the only person in the Trinity that does not speak with words. Think of ways in which the Holy Spirit has affected our lives without speaking. What spiritual gifts have you been given? How are you using those gifts in service to God and His people? Pentecost was a miracle of unity through common understanding by diverse people. Babel was an event of division through the inability to understand one another. Which of these two is most descriptive of the current technological explosion of the Internet and social media?

June 4, 2017-Pentecost Sunday “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and let Him in!
