This instruction sheet describes the assembly procedure for applying Leviton FastCAM ST optical connectors. Please be sure to read this instruction sheet carefully before applying the connector. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Always wear eye protection when handling optical fibers. Properly dispose of any cut or cleaved ends.

See reverse for corresponding illustrations. 1. Wedge is engaged at shipment. If it has become dislodged, squeeze the top and bottom insuring the wedge is inserted into the connector body. A click will be heard. 2. If using 900µm buffered fiber, remove the protection tubing from the boot. Slide it out the front of the boot. Slide the boot onto the fiber, small end first. 3.

Strip the fiber, removing the buffer coating, leaving the fiber longer than the finished cleave length (see Figure 1). It is recommended to clean the fiber with an alcohol wipe between the strip and cleave steps to remove any dust or debris.

5.

5.

Strip 13mm of buffer/coating from the 900µm fiber, or 10mm of buffer/coating from the 250µm fiber. On the 900µm fiber, make a mark at 11mm. On the 250µm fiber, make a mark at 14mm (see Figure 1). Proceed with cleaving per cleave tool instructions.

Note: Due to typical mechanical stripping of tight-buffered 900µm fiber, a small portion of 250µm coating may remain. This must be maintained to a maximum length of 3mm.

6. Insert the cleaved fiber into the rear of the connector. Carefully guide the fiber into connector body opening. 7.

Hold the fiber approximately 40-60 mm (1.57-2.35 in) behind the connector and maintain a slight force and bend on the fiber. This insures the prepared fiber is against the internal fiber. Your mark on the fiber should be hidden inside the connector body.

8. Maintaining the slight force on the fiber, release the wedge clip by squeezing it from the side. 9. Swing the locking piece from the bottom of the wedge unit and remove the wedge from the connector assembly.

10. Slide the boot up to engage over the rear of the connector body.

11. Apply the connector housing onto the assembly from the front. Complete! Note: Dust cap over ferrule should remain in place until ready to insert connector.

Note: This connector is not recommended for Outside Plant applications/installations. * Alternative cleavers were also tested. Those with a guaranteed maximum 1º cleave angle for single-mode fibers and a maximum 2º cleave angle for multimode fibers provided acceptable results.

PK-93356-10-02-0D 0R-93356-00-00-05
