Message from the Pastor Why We Praise “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” Psalms 22: 3 The second book of Chronicles, chapter 20 tells the story of King Jehoshaphat. The people of Judah were about to be attacked by a terrible and mighty army of Ammonites and Moabites. They were grossly outnumbered and had no chance of prevailing. Fearing all would be slaughtered or taken as slaves, King Jehoshaphat assembled all the people and prayed to God. In front of all the men, women and children, King Jehoshaphat asked for God’s help admitting they had no hope in fighting this terrible army and did not know what to do but could only set their eyes on God. Speaking through the prophet, God told them to go out and meet this army and not to fear as the battle was not theirs but God’s. At the head of his army King Jehoshaphat did not place his most mighty warriors nor his best swordsmen, instead he placed his singers to praise God. When they began to praise, God caused the Ammonites and Moabites to fight among themselves. By the time the army of Judah arrived they were all dead. As the Psalm indicates, God lives in the praises of his people! Why do we praise? We praise because we need God to be present in our lives! When do we praise? We praise when we are happy, we praise when we are sad, we praise when we need a miracle, and we especially praise when we come to The House of God! STRONGMAN Men Stepping Up! Video Series: (Last Friday of every month) On the last Friday of every month at 7:30pm (registration @ 7:00pm) we will be presenting our video series “Stepping Up.” We will meet in the sanctuary and watch a thirty-minute video. Following the video we breakout into group sessions to discuss video content. The video series will take place the last Friday of every month. (Snacks will be provided between the video and breakout sessions) The next meeting will be on September 27th. All are welcome!

Temple Upkeep (First Saturday of every month) God has blessed the Union City Apostolic Church with an attractive temple where we can worship. It is a great honor for us as men to be able to contribute in maintaining our place of worship. “Strongman” is a ministry that is passing down to the next generation; therefore, we encourage you to bring your children and teach them the importance and sanctity of maintaining the house of the Lord. We will meet at 7:30am first Saturday of every month, with breakfast burritos, OJ, and coffee served to the team. Improving the church with needed repairs from 8am-10am. The next meeting will be on September 7th. All are welcome!

HelpingHand We are here to help Do you or know someone who can use a helping hand? UCAC provides a free clothing closet to the community in need of clothes for adults, children, teens and infants. We all need help from time to time. If you are interested please call our office at: (510) 489-0687 to schedule an appointment to stop by, or visit our storage facility open every 2nd & 4th Saturday from 10am – 12noon, located on the church property. We look forward to seeing you then! If you have new or clean reusable items (shoes, clothes, toys, etc) to donate please let us know as well.

Welcome to our Food Bank The Union City Apostolic Church has been serving Alameda County for many years with food essentials to needy families.

If you are a low income individual or family in need of basic food essentials, please call our Coordinator, Irma Colon at: (510) 489-0687 to schedule an appointment to receive available items. Name and address are required to receive assistance. If you are interested in donating food for needy families, please call our Coordinator and arrange to bring your non-perishable food items to our facility in Union City.

Union City Christian Academy Our k-12 grade academy is small and offers a unique system of learning featuring a program of individual study. Each student, upon acceptance, is assessed and placed in a level of learning comparable to his/her abilities.

Our History The vision for the Academy was born in 1974 of the desire by its founder Bishop Adam G. Lopez after reading and understanding Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Our Method The Union City Christian Academy utilizes a system of learning that bridges both personal motivation with appropriately matched skill building activities ensuring mastery of required course material. This individualized approach matches students with the appropriate level of skill building curriculum with his or her appropriate performance level. Youth Ministry 2013 Annual Youth Camp! The year 2013 has been a great year for our group and it is not over yet. The time has come for the long awaited Annual Youth Camp which is scheduled for Sept 20-22, 2013 at Lake Tulloch. Come connect and experience an energetic unitybuilding weekend with your local youth. We will have a great time as we enjoy water sports, boating, great food, and fun throughout the day. We will conclude our nights with praise, worship, and messages by the camp fire. You do not want to miss out on this unforgettable weekend to make new friendships, build on existing friendships, or simply re-connect!

JAEL Women's Ministry

The purpose of the Women’s Ministry of the Union City Apostolic Church is to encourage women to become enthusiastic disciples of Jesus Christ, as we each become the woman that God created us to be. Our goal is that each woman intimately know the Lord, lovingly relate to one another, and advance the gospel in family and community. We accomplish these goals through outreach events such as prayer meetings, ladies tea, socials, prayer breakfast, conferences, retreats and creative fellowship meetings. We reach out to those in need, providing meals for the sick and those that have lost a loved one. You will be blessed when you give your time and love to a ministry such as this.

Ministerio de la Juventud 2013 Campamento Anual Juvenil! El año 2013 ha sido un gran año para nuestro grupo y aún no se ha terminado. Ha llegado la hora que hemos esperado todo el ano, El Campamento Anual de la Juventud, el dia 20 a 22 septiembre, 2013 en el Lake Tulloch. Ven a conectar y experimentar un fin de semana de unidad y energía con la juventud local. Vamos a pasar un buen tiempo mientras disfrutamos de los deportes de agua, buena comida y diversión durante todo el día. Concluiremos nuestras noches con la alabanza, la adoración, y los mensajes juntos el fuego de campo. Strongman (Hombres Fuertes) Hombres “Stepping Up” Video Serie: (último viernes de cada mes) El último viernes de cada mes a las 7:30 pm (el registro a las 7:00 pm) presentaremos nuestra serie de vídeos "Stepping Up." Nos reuniremos en el santuario a ver un video de treinta minutos. Después formamos pequeños grupos para discutir el vídeo. Se proporcionarán refrescos entre sesiones de vídeo y los grupos pequeños. La próxima presentación será el 27 de Septiembre. Todos esta bienvenidos!

Mantenimiento del Templo (primer sábado de cada mes) Dios ha bendecido a la Iglesia Apostólica de Union City con un templo atractivo donde podemos adorar a Dios. Es un honor para nosotros, que los hombres somos capaces de contribuir en el mantenimiento de nuestro lugar de culto. "Strongman" es un ministerio que pasara a la siguiente generación. Por eso los animamos a traer a sus hijos y enseñarles la importancia y la santidad de mantenimiento de la casa del Señor. Nos reuniremos a las 7:30 am con burritos de desayuno, jugo de naranja y café servido al todos. Trabajamos de 8am a 10am. La próxima junta será el 7 de Septiembre. Todos esta bienvenidos!

Bienbenidos a nuestro Banco de Comida! La Iglesia Apostólica de Union City ha estado sirviendo el Condado de Alameda por muchos años con alimentos básicos a las familias necesitadas. Si usted es una persona o familia de bajos ingresos en necesidad de alimentos esenciales básicos, llame a nuestra Coordinadora, Irma Colon al: (510) 489-0687 para hacer una cita para recibir elementos disponibles. Nombre y dirección son necesarios para recibir asistencia. Si usted está interesado en la donación de alimentos para las familias necesitadas, por favor llame a nuestra Coordinadora para traer sus alimentos no perecederos a nuestras facilidades en Union City.

¿Usted puede, o conoce a alguien que puede, utilizar ayuda? La Iglesia Apostólica de Union City ofrece un armario de ropa gratis para la comunidad en necesidad de ropa para adultos, niños, adolescentes y infantes. Todos necesitamos ayuda de vez en cuando. Estamos aquí para ayudar. Si usted está interesado por favor llame a nuestra oficina (510.489.0687) para hacer una cita para pasar por allí. O puede visitar cada segundo y cuarto sábado de 10 - 12 del mediodía, en el lugar de almacenamiento situada en la propiedad de la iglesia. Esperamos contar con su presencia! Mensaje del Pastor Porque Alabamos a Dios “Pero tú eres santo, Tú que habitas entre las alabanzas de Israel.” Salmos 22: 3

El segundo libro de Crónicas, capítulo 20 nos dice la historia del rey Josafat. El pueblo de Judá estaba a punto de ser atacado por un poderoso ejército de Amonitas y Moabitas. Fueron extremadamente superados en número y no tenía posibilidad de prevalecer. Temando que todos serían asesinados o tomados como esclavos, rey Josafat reunió a todo el pueblo y oraba a Dios. Delante de todos, el rey Josafat pidió ayuda a Dios admitiendo que no tenían esperanza en la lucha contra este terrible ejército y no sabían qué hacer, pero sólo podían fijar sus ojos en Dios. Hablando por medio del profeta, Dios les dijo que no teman que la batalla no era de ellos sino de Dios. A la cabeza de su ejército, el rey Josafat no puso sus más poderosos guerreros, en cambio, puso sus cantantes para alabar a Dios. Cuando comenzaron a alabar, Dios hizo que los Amonitas y Moabitas a pelear entre sí. Cuando llego el ejército de Judá todos estaban ya muertos. Como el Salmo indica, Dios vive en las alabanzas de su pueblo. ¿Por qué alabamos? Alabamos a Dios porque necesitamos que El este presentes en nuestras vidas! ¿Cuándo alabamos a Dios? Alabamos cuando estamos felices, alabamos cuando estamos tristes, alabamos cuando necesitamos un milagro, y en especialmente nos alabamos cuando llegamos a la casa de Dios!
