We’ve got the power...Game On!!

Dear CES Families, One of our goals this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Research shows: Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Absences can add up quickly. A child is chronically absent if he or she misses just two days every month. Also, please remember to send a note with your child when they return to school to excuse the absence. Clearly going to school regularly matters! We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance: • • • • • •

Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine. Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session. Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school. Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

The Gifted & Talented classes need donated 2 & 3 liter bottles. If you have any to donate, please send them to school with your student(s). They will be using these for a biography project. The bottles will be dressed as a historical figure that the student will choose.

Tuesday: Make the Mustangs See Double! (Twin Day) Wednesday: Hunt Down the Mustangs! (Camo) Thursday: Beat the Mustangs! (Sport Attire)

Friday: Maroon Out!

At the end of each six weeks, we celebrate students’ accomplishments with an awards ceremony in the cafeteria. Parents are encouraged to attend. The students also have the opportunity to attend the Bulldog Bash on this day if they are passing all subjects, don’t have more than 3 unexcused absences nor tardies and no more than 3 discipline write ups. The Bulldog Bash activities change every 6 weeks as a fun and exciting incentive for our students!

Issue 3, September 24, 2019 Estimadas familias de CES: Uno de nuestros objetivos este año es asegurar que todos los estudiantes asistan a la escuela. regularmente. Asistir a la escuela tiene un gran impacto en el estudiante Éxito académico que comienza en el jardín de infantes y continúa hasta la escuela secundaria. Incluso a medida que los niños crecen y se vuelven más independientes, las familias juegan un papel clave en asegurándose de que los estudiantes lleguen a la escuela de manera segura todos los días y entiendan por qué es tan importante importante para el éxito en la escuela y en la vida. Lunes: Lei Out the Mustangs! (Hawaiano) Martes: Haz los Mustangs Ver doble! (Día gemelo) Las clases para Dotados y Talentosos necesitan botellas de 2 y 3 litros donadas. Si tienes alguna que done, envíelos a la escuela con su (s) estudiante (s). Los usarán para una biografía proyecto. Las botellas se vestirán como un figura histórica que el alumno elegirá.

Al final de cada seis semanas, celebramos los logros de los estudiantes con una ceremonia de premiación en la cafetería. Se anima a los padres a asistir. Los estudiantes también tienen la oportunidad de asistir al Bulldog Bash en este día si están aprobando todas las asignaturas, no tienen más de 3 ausencias injustificadas ni tardanzas y no más de 3 informes disciplinarios. ¡Las actividades de Bulldog Bash cambian cada 6 semanas como un incentivo divertido y emocionante para nuestros estudiantes!
