We’ve got the power...Game On!!

Issue 4, October 7, 2019 Dear CES Families, As we start the new six weeks, we've been able to reflect as a team on the high-level learning experiences our students have had the privilege of receiving from a highly qualified staff. We are currently studying data from our first checkpoint and will provide intervention during WIN time for CES students who demonstrated a need for growth in certain areas. After receiving feedback from a family survey, I wanted to take this opportunity to explain our WIN (What I Need) time to CES families so that you have an understanding of the process of growth that is anticipated through intervention and extension. All of our students receive WIN time four days a week- Monday through Thursday. Some of our students utilize technology which incorporates researchbased programs designed to boost their knowledge with certain skills by prescribing the perfect leveled activities for the student. Other students work in small groups with the teacher or another staff member to help drill down and fill gaps that the student might have in order to build the foundation toward mastery. Lastly, students who have demonstrated mastery of certain skills are challenged to extend their thinking through project-based learning strategies. All students are given the chance to think critically and utilize high level questioning. We have already noted student progress and will continue to plan engaging lessons that are designed to help our students grow forward- no one goes backward! A blizzard of books are heading to our library October 21st25th! There will be “snow” much to read at this awesome book fair! Come check it out!

Wear pajamas or comfy clothes! Wednesday: Unity Day – “Orange” you glad you’re drug free? Wear orange to show your support against bullying! Thursday: Give drugs the “boot”! Wear western clothes, cowboy hats and/or boots!

Together Against Bullying October 23 Wear Orange! Remembering the difference:

Rude = Inadvertently saying or doing something that hurts someone else. Mean = Purposefully saying or doing something to hurt someone once (or maybe twice). Bullying = Intentionally aggressive behavior, repeated over time, that involves an imbalance of power.

Friday: Team up against drugs! Wear team or school spirit shirts/jerseys! Students in 2nd-5th grades will have the opportunity to sign up for UIL this week. They will be coming home with permission slips if they signed up. These will need to be returned as soon as possible. UIL is an extracurricular activity, therefore practices will be held either before or after school so arrangements will need to be made for drop off and pick up. If your child makes a particular team, our district UIL meet will be held on Friday, December 6th at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant. If your child is in a writing event, it will take place on our campus on Wednesday, December 4th. (More info on the actual meet will come at a later date).

Issue 4, October 7, 2019 Estimadas familias de CES: A medida que comenzamos las nuevas seis semanas, hemos podido reflexionar sobre un equipo en las experiencias de aprendizaje de alto nivel que nuestros estudiantes tienen Tuve el privilegio de recibir de un personal altamente calificado. Estamos actualmente estudiando datos de nuestro primer punto de control y proporcionará intervención durante el tiempo WIN para estudiantes de CES que demostraron una necesidad de crecimiento en ciertas áreas. Después de recibir comentarios de una encuesta familiar, quería aprovechar esta oportunidad para explicar nuestro tiempo WIN (What I Need) a las familias de CES para que comprendan el proceso de crecimiento que se anticipa a través de la intervención y la extensión. Todos nuestros estudiantes reciben tiempo WIN cuatro días a la semana, de lunes a jueves. Algunos de nuestros estudiantes utilizan tecnología que incorpora programas basados en la investigación diseñados para aumentar sus conocimientos con ciertas habilidades al prescribir las actividades niveladas perfectas para el estudiante. Otros estudiantes trabajan en grupos pequeños con el maestro u otro miembro del personal para ayudar a profundizar y llenar los vacíos que el estudiante pueda tener para construir la base hacia el dominio. Por último, los estudiantes que han demostrado el dominio de ciertas habilidades tienen el desafío de extender su pensamiento a través de estrategias de aprendizaje basadas en proyectos. Todos los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de pensar críticamente y utilizar preguntas de alto nivel. Ya hemos notado el progreso de los estudiantes y continuaremos planificando lecciones atractivas que están diseñadas para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a crecer, ¡nadie retrocede! Malo = Decidir o hacer algo a propósito para lastimar a alguien una vez (o tal vez dos veces). Bullying = intencionalmente agresivo comportamiento, repetido en el tiempo, que involucra Un desequilibrio de poder.

Los estudiantes de 2º a 5º grado tendrán la oportunidad de inscribirse en UIL esta semana. Volverán a casa con permisos si se inscribieron. Deberán devolverse lo antes posible. UIL es una actividad extracurricular, por lo tanto, las prácticas se llevarán a cabo antes o después de la escuela, por lo que se deberán hacer arreglos para dejar y recoger. Si su hijo forma un equipo en particular, nuestra reunión UIL del distrito se llevará a cabo el viernes 6 de diciembre en el Northeast Texas Community College en Mt. Agradable. Si su hijo está en un evento de escritura, se llevará a cabo en nuestro campus el miércoles 4 de diciembre. (Más información sobre la reunión real llegará en una fecha posterior).
