The road to SUCCESS

This school year brought new changes to the Gifted/Talented program at Cooper Elementary. We introduced STEM activities to grades K through 5. In an attempt to guide students to a new and exciting exploration, we introduced Robotics to grades 3-5. The integration of robotics has put our focus on inquiry-based learning and tie back to real-world applications. Each team was given a kit and instructions on how to assemble and program their robot. Children learned problem-solving, in a fun way, when they ran into issues putting their piece together. For instance, one team had to work their way through their glitch when the arm on their robot wouldn't lift up. When they figured it out, they were ecstatic! Robotics integrates all STEM fields teaching them the foundations of computer science and engineering. The excitement is so great, we are looking at adding robotics into first and second grades. Students found that they are good at teamwork, critical thinking, using mathematical solutions, and applying scientific principles. What an exciting direction our program has taken! Familias del CES, Este año escolar trajo nuevos cambios a los Dotados/Talentosos. programa en la escuela primaria Cooper. Introducimos las actividades STEM a los grados K a través de 5. En un intento de guiar a los estudiantes a una exploración nueva y emocionante, Introdujo la robótica a los grados 3-5. La integración de la robótica ha puesto nuestro enfoque en el aprendizaje basado en la indagación y se vincula con las aplicaciones del mundo real. Cada equipo recibió un kit e instrucciones sobre cómo ensamblar y programar su robot. Los niños aprendieron a resolver problemas, de una manera divertida, cuando se encontraron con problemas al armar su pieza. Por ejemplo, un equipo tuvo que abrirse camino a través de su falla cuando el brazo de su robot no se levantaba. ¡Cuando lo descubrieron, estaban extasiados! La robótica integra todos los campos STEM enseñándoles los fundamentos de la informática y la ingeniería. La emoción es tan grande que estamos considerando agregar la robótica a los grados primero y segundo. Los estudiantes descubrieron que son buenos para el trabajo en equipo, el pensamiento crítico, el uso de soluciones matemáticas y la aplicación de principios científicos.
