The Great Kapok Tree We will read “The Great Kapok Tree,” a fantasy story about a man who walks into the Amazon rain forest to cut down a Kapok tree, but is convinced by the animals of the forest to save it. Trees are very important for human beings since they produce oxygen and provide shade and food. By cutting down trees, we show a lack of concern for future generations. Several types of common foods are grown in the Amazon. After your child has finished reading “The Great Kapok Tree,” you may want to help your child identify the names and characteristics of some of the common foods found in the Amazon rain forest. Help your child fill out the chart below. An example has been completed for you.
