Abraham Lincoln Your child will soon read “Abraham Lincoln,” a nonfiction selection that summarizes the life of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States. Born in Kentucky in 1809, Abraham Lincoln was president during the most difficult period in the history of the United States—the Civil War. He is regarded by many people as the greatest American president because he stood up for a united country and the abolition of slavery. Abraham Lincoln was found to be a great leader during wartime. After your child has finished reading “Abraham Lincoln,” help your child research and write a paragraph about any other U.S. general or president who led people with wisdom and courage during a time of war or critical conditions.
