THE RECORD Volume Volume XXXII XXIXJanuary, April, 2006 2009 Number Number 41 It’s Time!

Here we are in January 2009 and I wonder if you know what very special “day” occurs this month? No, I’m not talking about January 1 and “New Year’s Day”. I’m not thinking about January 19 either, which is “Martin Luther King, Jr. Day”. I’m not even referring to the Presidential Inauguration Day on January 20, when America makes history! No, the “day” on my mind is Sunday, January 18. Sunday, January 18?? Yes, Sunday, January 18!! Do you know what that “day” is? It’s the “day” when many Churches and Christians across our Convention and across our Country will observe “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday”. All of those “other” days I mentioned are very significant and important, no doubt. But, I wonder if Sunday, January 18, should not be one of the most important days of all to Christians and Churches in America?!! Not, there won’t be any national fanfare. It probably won’t even make the evening newscasts. But, I wonder if to God even, it’s a more significant day than all the others. The headlines for January 18 could read, “America’s Holocaust Continues Unabated” or “Debt, Inflation, and Abortion Numbers All Expected to Rise!” Why? Because our new President is very much “pro-choice”. I want to make a suggestion. Cal Thomas once said, “Rather than curse the darkness, instead light a candle.” It’s late, but why not lead your Church or Sunday School Class to “do something” pro-life this month, and at least once a year, every year? The closest Pregnancy Help Center in our area is in Paris. The director is Vicki Powell. I just received their 2008 Year End Report. Note these figures…469 new clients in 2008…97 abortion vulnerable…45 changed their minds…41 accepted Christ!! (FYI, the church with the largest number of baptisms in RBA last year had 42) Here’s some ideas: • • • •

Invite Vicki to come share a report/testimony of their work, or some of her personal testimony. (903-249-3159 ctr) Put a “face” on this ministry. Ask Vicki if she could bring a “client” to give testimony too! (Wow!!) Receive a special offering, even a $1 offering, to contribute to the Center. Go to www.namb.net and use a pro-life DVD segment in your worship service. Titles include “I Chose Life”, “My Name is Dianna”, “The Potter’s Wheel”, or “Beauty From Ashes”. These are 2 -3” each and they are powerful! Go to Baptists for Life, www.blf.org, for other materials (800-968-6086) such as sermons, bulletin inserts, pamphlets, etc.

Yep, it’s time! Time to get off the bench and the sidelines, and do something more than pray, preach, or teach!
