Military Services, USA is the November recipient on November 19 and 20, 2016 The Archdiocese for AMS was established by Saint John Paul II in 1985 to provide the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries to those in the United States Armed Forces. The mission of the Archdiocese is to “serve those who serve” by providing the same pastoral care and services as any other Catholic diocese to Catholics serving in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Guam, and working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders. Their families also have access to programs and services vital to the unique mission and ministry of the Archdiocese

2

The AMS Office of Vocations informs and supports men exploring a priestly vocation and provides opportunities for vocation awareness and discernment with a focus on the military chaplaincy. Currently, the AMS partners with 23 dioceses across the U.S. with 28 co-sponsored seminarians studying in 16 seminaries. In 2016, three priestly ordinations and one transitional diaconate ordination are expected. The Nation and the Church continue to depend on this generation of future priests to relieve a chronic shortage of Catholic chaplains in the military. The AMS receives no funding from the military or the government in support of the aforementioned programs and relies solely on private donors. The AMS average annual cost per seminarian is $18,000. Checks are to be made out to St. Gabriel the Archangel Church with “AMS” written in the memo section. Visit the parish website to give online. Please be generous.

Our financial stewardship pledge drive is off and running! Thank you to all of those who have returned their commitment card – your support is crucial to the mission of the parish. If you have not yet returned your commitment card, there’s still time! We will put together a Summary Report before the end of the year to share the results of our pledge drive, which will include the number of parishioners who pledged and the overall increase in giving that has been pledged. We would like your pledge to be a part of that report, so please take a moment this week to make that commitment and return it to the parish. Fr. Liekhus

Families Moving Forward updates. St Gabriel’s will be hosting FMF three weeks in 2017: April 2-9 (Lent), June 25-July 2 and October 8-15, 2017. When considering a Service Ministry to support, please prayerfully consider FMF. We here at St Gabriel’s have a solid FMF leadership team and have developed a core of regulars. We do have one key position to fill on the leadership team: the couple responsible for recruiting and scheduling families with children to come and have supper with the guest families and then play with the children until 8:00pm. The important requirement for this position is that you are a couple with children that know other couples with children. If you would like to learn more about this position, contact me: email, [email protected] or phone (952) 935 8530. God Bless, Deacon Francis

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
