PASTOR’S Reflection
B
should make us go beyond our life,
reaking Open the Word which normally navigates among fear, pessimism, rebellion, lies, justice and of God:
injustice, fighting and despairing. So Dear brothers and Sisters, we make Jesus be born in us, flesh of Advent starts today. The Gospel at our own flesh. first sight seems to give us a terrible Advent should be experienced announcement, but its true meaning is inside every one of us. The birth of the one of hope. In every man and woman Son of God becomes Bethlehem in the there’s pessimism and hope present. cave of our hearts, there where each of Throughout history there have always us struggles to live like wholesome been truly disheartening events: men and women. Men and women natural disasters, illnesses, terrorism, who must stand erect despite tiredness, peoples who are forced out of their alert despite vices, despite daily homes because of war, migration, or worries about money, Men and hunger. Keeping all of these in mind, women who cannot avoid feeling today we are told: “stand erect and called to be new people. May the raise your heads, because your result of a profound inner and redemption is at hand.” transcendent experience hidden within In the first Reading, we hear us, strengthen within us the desire for Jeremiah telling us: “I will raise up for a land of peace and justice, that it may David a just shoot; he shall do what is come forth and share it with the world. right and just in the land.” And Daniel, the great prophet of Advent will invite us during this time to find the signs of hope, both as a church and as a society, so we can raise our heads. We can’t deny that society around us creates a conformist world that kills hope. Devoid of hope, there is no reason to fight for something new. Thus, society discredits those who want to create something new, calling them enemies to progress and quality of life. This society is turning into one that prefers people comfortably installed, subdued, without goals. Men and women with their head bowed down.
Brothers and sisters, there are signs of hope around us, although it is not easy to keep the star alight in the middle of mistrust and lack of faith of our days. It is important to live in the today, not in the tomorrow that the prophets announce, or dreamers dream. And so today is the right moment to keep our hope alive. We men and women of faith must enter the darkness of sin and become messengers of hope. And scrutinize with eyes of faith that darkness, and help discover the signs of life and hope.
W
Jesus said: “And then they will see alking the Son of Man coming in a cloud …”; together as “Beware that your hearts do not brothers and become drowsy from carousing and sisters: drunkenness and the anxieties of daily Dear brothers and life,” “Be vigilant at all times and pray sisters, we are all called that you have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.” Standing in our journey to be erect, alert, resisting drowsiness Advent for today’s
world, ie be signs of hope within our families, within our parish, Let us be alert so we can discover the signs of Jesus’ coming in everyday life. He comes when He wills, and so we must stand watch. We need to stop, enter into Advent, because it is our time. It is the time of every man and woman, the time for the birth of the Son of God. Please don’t forget to contribute to our campaign to collect money to pay for the repair of the roof of our church, thank you to everybody who have already helped this cause. There are still a lot of people who have not responded, please remember that every grain of sand helps I the foundation of a building. Whatever you can help with counts, big or small. Thank you for helping to this cause. God will reward you. Fr. José Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

Conchita, Tell Us about Your Life Imagine having a relationship with the Lord such that you could ask Him to walk with you in your garden under the big trees at your hacienda. And, imagine the Lord doing just that! Well, this was Conchita’s life. Her relationship with the Lord was intimate and when she asked Him to walk with her, she felt His presence beside her. She heard His voice and listened to his directives. Her heart was so full of love for the Lord and open to His wishes for her that He was with her every minute of the day. She tangibly felt His presence. Soon after this conversation with the Lord in her garden, Conchita prayed in her church, Iglesia de la Compania at San Luis Potosi. There the Lord sent her a vision of the Cross of the Apostolate. That vision occurred a number of times over the next two months and from the vision, Conchita understood that her mission was to offer herself daily to the Father in union with Jesus on the Cross and to offer her suffering to save souls –to draw others to the Lord. Her mission in life was being defined. She established the Works of the Cross –beginning with The Apostleship of the Cross where she invited people to discover the value of pain and suffering. When suffering and pain is united with Christ’s suffering, it becomes an instrument of salvation. Apostles of the Cross were to offer themselves in union with Jesus on their daily ‘crosses’ --- the difficulties, the pain, the hardships of life-- and to allow the Holy Spirit to work in them. We have all become familiar with the Cross of the Apostolate that Conchita saw in her visions. The Cross stands in our SEAS Church up front by the baptismal font reminding us of Christ’s love for each one of us, and the price He paid to demonstrate that love. This Apostleship of the Cross is designed for the laity who are asked to embrace their cross daily and to witness by their lives what it is to be an Apostle of the Cross. I joined this apostolate three years ago, and I can tell you it is a privileged group with their focus on the Lord. The road to holiness is clearly delineated for members who strive to live as Jesus lived ---with mercy, kindness, deep love, and service to others. It is a privileged road to travel, and I have a long way to go to call myself a true apostle whose life reflects the Lord. But, all of us can and should be part of Conchita’s vision ---join us! Joan

T y p o l o g y The First Week of Advent: Hope in Christ Kianna Garmanian
My friends, I wish you a wonderful first week of Advent! What a beautiful and meaningful time of the year, as we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ Jesus. To help in this preparation, I have prepared a little reflection for each of the four Sundays in Advent. I invite you to set aside just 1530 minutes this week to spend time with Jesus in Adoration. Please, take these reflection questions I will share with you and bring them to Jesus in prayer. How blessed is our parish community, as Adoration with Jesus is available to us Monday-Friday until 9 pm! If you are not able to make it to the chapel to pray, you are more than welcome to pray in your home, at work, in the car, etc. Our sweet Lord is always with you! The theme for the first week of advent is HOPE. As we prepare our hearts for Christ, here are some questions to reflect on: What am I hopeful for? What hope does Christ bring to me/my life? Do I look forward to the coming of Christ? Am I ready for Christ’s coming? (physically, mentally, spiritually) How can I prepare my heart, mind, and soul for Christ? With faith, comes the need for hope. In fact, as Christians, our faith is Kianna has been a parishioner at based on the coming of Christ and eternity with Jesus. Please beware of Email Scams In the last two weeks some person/persons unknown have created fake Gmail accounts for Fr. Gerardo and Fr. Roberto, and emailed some of our Ministry leaders asking for gift cards and money. In an effort to protect everybody’s privacy, we will not be publishing personal emails anymore, in the website there is a way to get in contact with them. Sorry if this inconveniences you, and thank you for understanding. If you receive an email from Clergy or the Office, please check the originating address, it should always come from the EASBOTHELL.ORG domain. If something you receive looks suspicious, call the Parish Office, that way you know it is a legitimate contact.
Average Weekly Offerings of $30,000 are needed to run the parish
