I have been told that there is something with the decay of fallen leaves that gives more energy to humans. I am not sure if I have more energy but I know that this is a very busy time of year for all of us with new beginnings. There are somethings in beginning that I need to put on the shelf and start fresh. Phrases that occur and are detrimental to new life... “We did that last year we don’t need to do it this year”. “People don’t have time for more…..” “Parents are the primary educators but we did a handout to help them last year.” “That adult faith formation series during Lent was great so we have covered our bases .” At the Beginning of the Year meeting, we asked that you make three goals for your program for the coming year. It will help all of us focus on things we have done and how we can go deeper in our responsibilities as catechetical leaders.

Identify the cultural devotions that families celebrate. Make a list and each month take a short period of time telling stories about the devotions and saints. At special times you may want the whole group to come to celebrate and experience one of these. “Las Posadas” comes to mind. 2 . Be more welcoming to parents in our parish program with outreach programs. We set the date to begin in January but you can start now. You can gather, deepen their faith, welcome them whenever they come, or email on a regular basis information that could help them be better Catholic parents. Be creative. 3. Have all catechist in training and formation toward Basic Certification. The Faith Formation Conference is an excellent start. If you are excited and encouraging, if the parish pays their way, then they will be more willing to say “yes”.

We are happy to inform you that, as of January 2018 we are initiating a formation program for Quinceañera Teams. Upon requests received from various parishes to provide formation for Quinceañeras and their families, the Faith Formation Office has put together a training program for parish Quinceañera Teams that includes faith formation, liturgy and culture according to the guidelines of the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Office and Liturgical norms. This training is given in Spanish or Bilingually in collaboration with the Office of Worship. Guidelines will be available on our Webpage. 10
