Joanne Mourikes Rice, Principal March 11, 2016 Dear ECC Parents, What a lovely week we enjoyed at the ECC. With the warmer temps, our students have been able to enjoy our outdoor park area. Sometimes, the park is muddy, so an extra pair of shoes in your child’s backpack would be helpful in keeping the ECC clean and safe. Our students did an excellent job of listening to directions and finding a safe space during our tornado drill on Tuesday. Please practice a safety plan with your family at home to be prepared for tornados and fires. On Monday 3/14, the Elmwood Park Schools English Language Learner program will celebrate our annual Multicultural Night. Beginning at 5:30 in our high school auditorium, we will have student performances and professional performances by the Bobek Polish Highlander Trio and the Moravian Folk Society Dancers. After our performances, we will celebrate with a pot-luck dinner in the cafeteria. Please bring an entrée to share and enjoy some socializing and beautiful Latin guitar music. Please mark your calendars. There is no school on Election Day, March 15th. On Friday, March 25th and Monday, March 28, there are also no classes at Elmwood Park Schools. Ms. Sahagún is our Teacher Star of the Week. Ms. Sahagún was born in Chicago and attended a Chicago public school. Both of her parents having a very limited formal primary education instilled in her the importance of an education and achieving a dream. They sought to maintain their Mexican culture and Spanish language, in which Ms. Sahagún takes great pride. She defines herself as a true Mestiza. Her maternal grandmother is from Oaxaca, Mexico and speaks Mixtec and Spanish. On her father’s side, she has roots in Spain and France. Her last name is of Arab origin, “Sajawi” but was converted into Spanish as “Sahagun”. Ms. Sahagun is passing on her cultural beliefs, traditions and language to her two children, Yalitzi and Diego. Ms. Sahagun loves to read to her children and believes that all children can achieve their dreams just as she has. ☺ Our Kindergarten Stars of the Week are Oliver Barnas, Jack Slavick and Anton Uleychuk. From the nurse: Reminder: the State of Illinois requires all kindergarten students to have an eye examination by an eye doctor. If you have not already done so, please take your child as soon as possible. Dental exams are also required. These are due by May 15th. If you need these forms, please see the nurse.

Joanne Mourikes Rice, Directora Estimadas Familias del Centro ECC, Que hermosa semana hemos tenido en el Centro ECC. Con temperaturas más calientes, nuestros estudiantes han podido disfrutar nuestra área de parque en las afueras. A veces el parque está un poco lodoso, es por eso que un par extra de zapatos in la mochila de su hijo sería una buena ayuda para mantener el Centro ECC limpio y seguro. Nuestros estudiantes hicieron un trabajo excelente escuchando las direcciones en encontrar escondite seguro, durante el simulacro de tornados el martes. Por favor practique teniendo un plan de seguridad, en casa con su familia, para prepararse en caso de tornados o incendios. El lunes 14/3, el programa de aprendices del lenguaje Ingles de las escuelas de Elmwood Park, estarán celebrando su Noche Multicultural Anual. Comenzará a las 5:30 en el auditorio de la escuela superior, tendremos presentaciones por estudiantes y de grupos profesionales tales como el Trio “Bobek Polish Highlander” y los “Moravian Folk Society Dancers”. Después de las presentaciones, estaremos celebrando con una cena “pot-luck” en la cafetería. Favor de traer un plato de alguna comida típica para compartir con los demás y disfrutar de socializar con los demás y también disfrutar de una bella música de guitarra Latina. Por favor marque su calendario. No habrá clases el día 15 de marzo debido a que es el día de Elecciones. El viernes 25 de marzo y el lunes 28 de marzo, no habrá clases en las escuelas de Elmwood Park.

Nuestros Estudiantes Estrella de la Semana del Kindergarten son: Oliver Barnas, Jack Slavick y Anton Uleychuk.

Nuestra maestra Estrella de la Semana es la Señora Sahagun. La maestra Sahagún nació en Chicago y curso sus estudios en una escuela pública de Chicago. Los padres de ella tuvieron una educación limitada sin embargo le inculcaron la importancia de una educación y en alcanzar los sueños. Ellos mantuvieron su cultura Mexicana y el español, lo cual orgullece a la maestra Sahagún. Ella se define como una verdadera Mestiza. Su abuela maternal es de Oaxaca México y habla Mixteco y Español. Por parte de su papá se traza sus raíces Españolas y Francesas. El apellido proviene de Arabia “Sajawi”, pero se convirtió en español a “Sahagún”. La maestra está inculcándoles a sus hijos Yalitzi y Diego la cultura, tradiciones y el español La maestra Sahagún le encanta leer a sus hijos y creé que todos los niños pueden lograr sus sueños así como ella.

Nota de la enfermera escolar: Recordatorio: El Estado de Illinois tiene como requisito que todos los estudiantes del kindergarten se hagan un examen de los ojos un Doctor Oculista. Si usted todavía no lo ha hecho, por favor hágalo lo más pronto posible. Un examen dental es también requerido. Estos deben de haberse hecho antes del 15 de mayo. Si usted necesita estas formas, por favor hable con la enfermera.

Po wystepach wszyscy spotkamy sie na wspolnie przygotowanym posilku w szkolnej kafeterii. Prosimy o przyniesienia potrawy do podzielenia sie z innymi przy dzwiekach przepieknej gitary latynowskiej. Jej nazwisko pochodzi natomiast z jezyka arabskiego, “Sajawi”, a zamienione zostalo na hiszpanskie brzmienie “Sahagun”. Pani Sahagun przekazuje swoja kulture, tradycje i jezyk swojej dwojce dzieci, Yalitzi i Diego. Pani Sahagun uwielbia czytac swoim dzieciom. Jest przekonana, ze wszystkie dzieci moga zrealizowac swoje marzenia, tak jak udalo sie to zrobic jej samej. ☺ Gwaiazdami tygodnia w klasach zerowych sa uczniowie Oliver Barnas, Jack Slavick i Anton Uleychuk. Przypominamy rodzicom, ze stan Illinois wymaga, aby wszyscy uczniowie klas zerowych mieli aktualne badanie wzroku od lekarza okulisty.
